I'm not sure there's a clear cut answer. Nationalist views that Trump thrives on have been brewing since the 9/11 days though I suppose. And of course the obvious bigoted history of this country still has racist ideologies that remain among a lot of Trump's supporters.

Not to say all Trump supporters are racist though. I'm sure millions got behind Trump because they're sick of the Military Industrial complex and the global agenda that's been being pushed in the last decades. There's probably a mix of both.
