In 1993 when the Bulls beat the Suns. Threepeating back then was a big deal since it was something that hadn't been done since the Russell Celtics. The media anointed him the GOAT for that reason back then.

He was neck and neck with Magic in 93. His First 3 Peat separated him from other elite Superstars at the time (Magic, Bird and Dr. J) but his place was not consensus.
Goat talk was sealed in 96’ after he led Chicago to 72-10 and their 4th championship, at least with the media. Old timers in the barbershop who insisted Kareem and Russell’s ring count to diminish Jordan’s legacy were silenced after title # 5 and 6.
