'Asked if he intended to opt-in Year 2 of his contract, Gasol agreed it’s a safe bet.
“My intention is to continue here, and to be here as long as I can,” said Gasol, who will turn 37 before the start of the 2017-18 season.'
Well hell yeah. He's going on 37 years old, and he's seen guys get paid in SA until they're old enough to collect Social Security. If I'm Pau Gasol, this is where I want to come to die. :lol

I appreciate Pau being one of the few vets to actually follow through on his lip-service. I still remember Grant Hill being called out in 2014 by someone with the Spurs when he tried that shit. They were like, "Then why did you keep turning us down?" I think seeing Pau come over and be happy will help in future recruiting efforts, especially for mid-level guys who will need to be added to fill out the rotation once the team gets over the cap more permanently.

I don't. He would have been incredibly useful in 2014-15 as a top sixth man backing up Duncan and Splitter but he chose the money and starting spot in Chicago. I don't blame him, as I would have too. But he came here this year for the starting spot and the money. If winning a title was any kind of priority Chicago with a broken down Rose in the summer of 2014 was a pretty bad choice.

I'm glad he didn't pick the Spurs. If people recall, I didn't want him that year. The problem for Hill is that he took less money to sign with LA that year. Just a punk move.

If pau came over then, it woulda been for the MLE which would have been an absolute steal.

... Until the Spurs would be unable to sign LMA because they already had Pau taking up cap space.

It would not be difficult to move pau at an MLE salary to create room. We were able to move splitter

Doubt they'd move him after he took a discount to play for them. That's like hella messed up. For all we know, the Spurs could have ended up with Gasol and Splitter as their main bigs.

Of course he's going to opt in

Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
Well Manu will be off the books, right?
Parker and Pau will be expriring in '18, tons of posters will talk about trading them which will never, ever, happen.
Then in '18, LMa will be deeper in his 30s and after 3 off seasons of pigging out, I suppose he will be declining. But the Spurs will have cap space.. right?
We'll see how it goes.

of course he is. Who else wants to overpay for a soft ass jump shooting center?

Pop sent his goon Fathead to break Gasol's knuckles when he heard this. "Make it look like an accident!"

This sctick is funny... It's probably going to go on for the rest of this season and the next since both will be in the team at lest until then...

OTOH, there's a good chance the Spurs repeat in 2015 if Gasol were on the team. Would've pushed them past the Clippers to face the Rockets/Warriors whom the Spurs beat late in that season without Splitter. The future wouldn't be as bright as it is now but the count would be firmly 6>5 in Duncan's favor.

Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
That sucks, his defense is really poor and he's very old.
-
Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
Give him and rest of team the max.

Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
As expected.. was holding on to a glimmer of hope that Gasol leaves but I doubt he gets $16 million elsewhere + a starting role. This means Patty might be gone if the Spurs have to blow the bank on Dedmon. Simmons is probably gone too but I don't think the Spurs should pay him anyways. He'll just take minutes away from Murray and Murray is just a younger, more talented, but less developed version of Simmons.
With Parker and Gasol sitting on $31 million of cap space, the Spurs will have to pretend to be a contender again in 2017-2018 and probably get easily swept by the Warriors. That is if they can even make it to the WCF. Such a waste of Aldridge's last prime years. Good news is that Aldridge is likely to opt out summer of 2018 and the Spurs would have a huge amount of cap space with Gasol, Parker, Aldridge off the books to put together a younger core around Leonard. Summer 2018 is when the Spurs shed all their dead weight, including Anderson.

Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
More Gasol bashing in this thread, he fills the void left from Timmy retiring and he's leaving his own mark as a Spur. It sucks he's out for a month and a half, but all this rest could help him play better when he returns. I love his game, what he brings to the table, very smart player and amazing passer.

Of course, he told him to do this in October, but Kyle being so slow it just happened now. :lol

Re: per Rotoworld, Gasol plans to opt in for next year
Looks like Patty is gone.
We can still retain Dedmon up to about 13mil a year. Then signing Simmons last would let us keep him too. 16mil or so without Simmons returning.
David Lee wont be keepable unless he opts in or comes back for the min in that scenario though.
