Pistons shopping Baynes and Boban
Printable View
Groce..i just puked.
Boban is like in the bottom 5 of worst bigs in the league and Baynes is a 13th man at best.
hard to really make a deal considering their salaries. i'd take baynes, though
I'm good with Lee and Dedmon. Based Bertans could probably play PF imo
Bring them back!
Too expensive and not as good as what we have now
TBH to beat GSW we need another wing that can 3D, but alas those are hard to get.
Boban is utterly priced out of any possible market for his services. I've been saying since early December that they will wind up negotiating a buyout. Horrible contract.
Baynes has more value than Boban, but he's not the answer to our big man prayers. With Dedmon and Lee on the roster, I don't see any possibility the Spurs bring him back.
Edit: Before anyone pipes in, I know Boban is guaranteed for the rest of the year. But they still have two more years at $7M per. They'll eat a buyout, and he'll go back to Europe. I honestly don't think the Spurs would put him back on the roster, even at a discount.
:wow
Would rather Neal tbh
The Spurs need a dynamic guard, not another big.
:lol both of these guys got nice paydays for being nothing higher than the 4th big in the Spurs rotation.
I wouldn't want either back anyway. Spurs need young prospects if they're looking for bigs. Boban to me was always overrated on here.
Bringing back Antonio McDyess would be better
:lol SVG
Another good coach killing himself by being a poor GM..
I'd trade Gasol for Ibaka
Picking the one of the most athletic PF in the league isolating Baynes as the benchmark for a bench player is cute and all but Baynes wouldn't miss all those inside rotations like our current big guys do. There is a reason why it is layup drill game after game and Baynes was a good rim protector.
Their team is so bad, they've got no firepower whatsoever (reggie jackson :lol)
Size is what kills golden state...but they have to be skilled...punish them down below...but not sure about THESE bigs...I'd want ones that can score down low unassisted..punish those midgets
:lmao SVG
What putrid GM job he's done :lol
you don't buy low, sell high only to by it back at that higher price, take the W and move on. maybe we can convince some losing franchise that Forbes is the next Klay T. and get something useful back from a team wanting a player that has that Spurs mystique. Hey Lakers how about Forbes (to grow with your young core) for Lou Williams straight up?
I liked Boban

Why can't Boban stay on the floor? I assume it's defense. He rebounds and he does have some offensive skills. Or at least he did. Haven't seen him with Detroit.
it is better not
Boban costs too much, but he is the greatest garbage time player of all time ...
How would Boban or Baynes make the Spurs any better?
If Boban takes Parkers minutes?
If Baynes plays for LaSoftus?
These are the typical retarded responses I expect when I see these kinds of retarded threads. These kinds of worthless threads should be locked as they are part of the reason this place can not be taken any kind of serious.
I think he's done fine with some of the minor moves like Baynes, Ish Smith, Jon Leuer, etc, but it's the major moves that have been puzzling IMO..he accelerated their franchise's road to being a middle of the pack team with no future..I was going to give him credit for drafting KCP, since he looks like one of the best role players in the league, but I don't even think that was SVG..
I don't know why they signed Boban, either, when they already had a crowded frontcourt(trading Baynes, I guess?)..
Drummond's lack of impact and development has killed them, too, though..he barely has any impact on the game outside of rebounding nowadays..
Drummond hasn't been the same since that iCarly chick left him. I think JVG has done a good job at slightly overpaying useful players, which is better than not having useful players at all. But he ended up with three centers making like $40 Million combined and two combo-forwards making more than $20 Million. I mean look at this roster:
It's so god-damned hideous, and it's totally capped out. Hell, they could be in tax territory next year.
Name 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 2020-21 Andre Drummond $22,116,750 $23,775,506 $25,434,263 $27,093,019 $28,751,775 Tobias Harris $17,200,000 $16,000,000 $14,800,000 Reggie Jackson $14,956,522 $16,000,000 $17,043,478 $18,086,956 Jon Leuer $10,991,957 $10,497,319 $10,002,681 $9,508,043 Boban Marjanovic $7,000,000 $7,000,000 $7,000,000 Aron Baynes $6,500,000 $6,500,000 Ish Smith $6,000,000 $6,000,000 $6,000,000 Josh Smith (stretched) $5,331,729 $5,331,729 $5,331,729 $5,331,729 Marcus Morris $4,625,000 $5,000,000 $5,375,000 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope $3,678,319 $4,958,374 Stanley Johnson $2,969,880 $3,097,800 $3,940,402 $5,311,662 Reggie Bullock $2,255,644 $3,313,542 Henry Ellenson $1,704,120 $1,780,800 $1,857,480 $2,856,804 $4,053,805 Beno Udrih $980,431 Darrun Hilliard $874,636 $1,471,382 $1,839,228 Michael Gbinije $650,000 $1,312,611 $1,544,951 $1,931,189 Nikola Jovanovic (waived) $30,000 Trey Freeman (waived) $25,000 Ray McCallum (waived) $11,949 Guaranteed Total: $107,901,937 $94,983,154 $90,987,151 $60,019,747 Inclusive Total: $107,901,937 $112,039,063 $100,169,212 $70,119,402 $32,805,580
I'd trade Manure for both
We could be a 70 win team

That Detroit roster has a very serious problem. They don't even have a couple of terrible contracts to shed, so you'd see a road to make things better. It's full of players overpaid for what they produce, top to bottom and they're on their way to max out KCP in the summer too, making things even worse. Being capped out for years in the current climate for such a low ceiling roster is incredibly bad.
They're not developing their younger players either, Johnson has gone backwards and not sure what the point was to draft Ellenson either.
That said, if teams can salary dump shitty contracts like Miles Plumlee's, then there must be a light at the end of the tunnel :lol
Aron Baynes is awful. Pistons fans hate him now.
Boban was doing abysmally, but in Dec-Now he's been doing better. I wouldn't want either's contracts, but Boban wouldn't be awful or anything.
Both contracts are bad. Pass on both of them.
Boban is a joke and what we have now is better than Baynes. Detroit F8cked up.
Just to add to the discussion about how poor SVG is at the GM role I'm going to throw in this quote he have in an interview on the topic in November. They guy thinks that Baynes is grossly underpaid....I'm kinda stunned...
“Now he’ll make about triple next summer of what we’re giving him,” Van Gundy said in November. “We won’t be able to re-sign him, but the critics, who always know, killed us for overpaying him. Right now, we could trade him to 29 teams in about five seconds right now at what he’s making. So I don’t think we made too bad a deal.”
He thinks Baynes is worth $18M??
Bertrans and Dedmon are both better players and their salaries are a lot lower than Baynes or Boban. Would not be an upgrade for the Spurs to make a move for either of them.
Spurstalk never learns. :lol Boban - "Pay the man!" Baynes- "Can't afford to let the big banger go!" I had forgotten all about Bayne's existence until this thread popped up. CoJo "But, but, but the slam over Ibaka and the game 6 comeback." Gary Neal "Choo choo, please don't leave the station." System players equal scrub status outside the system. And people here think the Spurs could actually get something of value for system players like Green and Mills. :lol
I would snag up Baynes and verajao (sp?) ....
Baynes was one of the best backup Cs in the NBA, last season..he's having a poor start to this season, but his 1st year in Detroit was easily better than his stint with the Spurs, tbh..he has game, he just needs to be utilized properly..
Boban is the same player, he just plays less on a team that doesn't get garbage time chances like the Spurs gave him..
Spurs backup bigs are more mobile now. I guess bring them back if Pop wants to go slower but tougher frontline route
I liked Baynes and thought Boban was fun. I'd take either of them over a Joel Anthony if the salaries were equal. But we have some bigs who are better than them right now. Get the players we have now healthy and fully into the system and we're good for the season.
Great post Harlem as always. :tu
One thing I miss from Baynes: he could set a mean screen to free up anybody... Spurs miss that somewhat though Lee and Dedmon have done so well, and Davis looks so good that I haven't missed him.
I did miss him last year when the duo of Boris and Dwest did not add up to one Baynes... (as you said he had a great season last year) and he's built like a truck.
I'd take Boban or Baynes this offseason if Dedmon leaves
https://youtu.be/5UmG2cfy3Ss
IF he'd stayed pop would have told him "dont shoot the three"
Looking like a Modern day Bill Lambier out there
Two words
Fuck
and
No
Good for Aaron.
He escaped poop and his demented drunk ass. Look at how much he has become. He never would have shown the stuff in that clip under poop.
Poop is so detrimental to the Spurs. He needs to retire.
League is a mess. Smalls now are scoring in the paint because bigs are guarding other bigs 30 feet away.
Baynes has always been a good player, tbh, his skills have always been there. He's a great backup C, salute to him for escaping Pop and working on his 3-point shooting(which would have never happened in SA).
At age 33, Baynes with career highs across the board in Phoenix. Appears to be very popular there.
Teams are always replacing marginal players at some position based on evaluation of salary vs. talent. A trade or failure to resign is just a business decision that may improve the team or get rid of a liability. Look at how many times Bowen didn't make it.
Who were those few fags in here that had a massive boner for playing Errors over Baynes?
Happy for those guys. And they sure as hell don’t get PAID without first coming through San Antonio, no matter what the spin is later.
I like Baynes and think he could be a decent bench contributor, but Boban, as nice of a guy as he is, is way too slow for today's NBA.
And I'd take Poetl over Baynes.
Boban 31 pts, 17 rebounds, a career-high in the season finale tonight.
I forgot how old Baynes is... pass.
