Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
We already have one Melo on the team who does play defense, so why not pick up a second Melo who doesn't play defense?

No. Melo doesnt play winning basketball.

You need another spin cycle...

Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Only if they throw in Porzingis.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Melo would be the second scorer the Spurs need, and he's shown he can be a winning player if he commits to playing the four. But LMA should age better and is a better defender. Prior to this season, I would have taken Melo, but I gotta go with LMA now. The Spurs' floor is lower with him, but the ceiling is higher.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
LMA has turned into a pretty good defender. No gurantee Melo does. Also Melo is still a diva, LMA has ditched that. Also Melo has knee problems, while LMA is healthy.
Too many "ifs" with Melo, while we know what we have with LMA.

No, but if I was RC I would trade Manu/Green, two future 2nd round picks, for Melo. I would hate to see Manu go but it gives the Spurs a better chance at a championship. Manu could get bought out and return to the Spurs, Knicks would be wanting Melo off the books.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
You cant be bought up and returned to the team that traded you.

Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
I don't know what's the deal with Melo, why some guys want a cancer/diva in your team?.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Only if they throw in Rose.
Then we deal for Rondo and with some creativity, we can have all cancerous chucker line up.

No because then it would just turn into a shootout if we face a team like Goldenstate at a even higher pace and they would smoke us. At least LMA plays some solid defense tbh

But Lamarcus can't dribble or draw fouls at the rim.

They eliminated the 30-day return loophole in the 2011 CBA.

How is he a crybaby?:lol He's been professional throughout this shit..he never asked for a trade or stated that he wants to leave NY..
Phil Jackson is acting like a 12-year old girl, as usual..he's a buffoon that has been embarrassing himself since retirement..

What?
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Melo wanted to go to NY in the first place, it's his home city and all, I don't think he would ever explicitly demand to be traded away from there like he did with the Nuggets.

Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
I do think people are wrongly hating Melo on reflex. Since about four years ago, he's chilled out quite a bit. He's a better play-maker than he gets credit for. Shit, he's a better everything than he gets credit for. I wouldn't want him instead of LMA and likely not even in addition to LMA (say like Gasol and Green for Melo as a trade). But I have pretty good confidence that the Spurs would beat teams by easier margins than they currently are if they had Melo as their second option.

Melo was a heck of a performer in the Olympics the last couple times, tbh.
Would you do Parker and Green for Melo, tbh?
- Gasol/Dedmon
- Aldridge/Lee/Bertans
- Melo/Simmons/Anderson
- Leonard/Ginobili/Simmons
- Murray/Mills
would be pretty damn good
-

I only agreed to eating a shit sandwich if the Spurs somehow beat the Dublets in the WCF.
The bet was, IF the Spurs and Dublets had met up in the WCF last year, that if the Spurs won, I eat a real shit sandwich, and if GSW won, the guy (I think Splits) must pay me $100. Since the series never materialized it was a moot point.

No way would I trade two guards for yet another front-court player. Gasol would have to be part of any package. But I'm not sure I'd want that. The Spurs would have the best offensive front court in the league, but those guys would get in each other's way something fierce.

Leonard can easily be a shooting guard, he's got the quicks, way quicker than other previous SG/SF hybrids like Bowen or Elie or Elliott we had that were strong on defense.
That would make our D a lot better tbh. Melo as a PF is bad on defense, see David Worst last year.

Melo at the three with Gasol at the five is much worse defensively. Green's a better defender than Melo is.
And please don't confuse Murray's potential with is current reality. He's not a good defender. There's been talk recently about prioritizing his defensive development, but he's not good currently. The team would likely turn to utter shit defensively after this deal (because if the stats show anything is that Leonard is not holding up the D this year in terms of per-100 stats). The only saving grace is that Kawhi would be able to play more focused D with another scorer.
Murray-bad
Kawhi-great but having a down year
Melo-bad on the perimeter
Aldridge-really good
Gasol-manageable but would be worse with worst perimeter defense around him.
That's the recipe to having the Spurs drop to the four-seed. And potentially losing in the first round.

I wouldn't want Carmelo, but :lmao at the idea of Lala living in San Antonio, tbh..she only wants New York or LA, according to almost every report that has surrounded this story..

I think he stays. He wants to be there, and the org has been losing political capital at an alarming rate. They seem to be tanking just fine with him, so you may as well hold onto him and look to move him at the draft.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
No.
Spurs have no need for his ISO ball and his liabilities on D.

Pretty much. Melo is one of the most underrated players in the league. He's not the ball stopper people complain about. I wouldn't want him either over lamarcus though.

Chilled out or just ate humble pie from all that losing? That said, he can be a legitimate threat in the right situation I would think. But the window is closing.

Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Carmelo Anthony could never play for the Spurs. I can't believe how many people follow this team, and post on this site, and still don't get it. The Spurs play as a TEAM. The superstars they have had like Duncan, Leonard and Aldridge are all team players who don't carry around a lot of "diva drama." Carmelo is the epitome of that kind of player. He is a total isolation, low percentage hero ball player. Very overrated, no defense, not a winner, can't get along with teammates etc etc etc
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Popovich demanding D from old Melo...
In what dimension and in what universe...
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
I pretty much think Melo sucks. He has been a completely useless, non-winning player his whole career. This guy has missed the playoffs 5 times in his career and it's not exactly that hard to make the playoffs in todays NBA, in the east in particular. Never been a serious contender for MVP, never been a part of a great rivalry, he has ZERO memorable series in the playoffs, no signature moments in his career really at all. I mean honestly can anyone name a great moment in his career? He will make the hall based on stats, but left no impact on the league. Will not be remembered by anyone..
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Aldridge is one of the best midrange jumper shooters in the game, he has range out to three as well as a formidable post game. The guy plays hard on the defensive end and rebounds and has improved at both. Doesn't always give the effort you want on a nightly basis but he's a very solid #2 option that checked his ego at the door and doesn't deserve a bad rep. Hell no I wouldn't trade him for Melo.
-
Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Me neither. And as long as LA doesnt feel he HAS to be the man, he can contribute alot, like D and rebs. I would like to see him be more patient on offense though. Keep the dribble and maneuver for a better shot or pass.

that's the problem. You don't want a #2 that regularly follows a HOF type game with a milk carton game. You want consistency.

Re: Lamarcus for Melo? Would you DO IT?
Melo tearing it up in OKC. I don't know about the Spurs but Cavs should trade Love for him. Melo would thrive as the 3rd option on Cleveland, taking advantage of the spread out, fast paced offense they have. Kinda like with the USNT.
