Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
Rest Parker. Rest Mills.
Let's see if Murray can provide us with something.
Tonorrow is a must win game for Utah of they want a chance at home court advatange.

Thanks for posting - I hope you're right. So much so that I'm not even going to give you shit about your sources.
I really, really hate that he missed all these games. Still, he almost HAS to be better than Forbes, even coming back and not being in game shape. I would LOVE for him to be the X-factor in the postseason.

Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
FYI - Pop already said they are not resting anyone. At least not in the context of not suiting up. Secondly, you have to be very careful giving Murray a full game coming off a very serious groin injury.

It was posted on Twitter a while ago that Murray was not listed on the injury report FYI so that is where it's from.

Well that's a source... right?
Seriously, I would really like to see the young guy have some good run in the playoffs. I just don't have the confidence that you do in the Spurs' longevity in the postseason. But it would make it a lot better for me if we witness the dawn of a new day at PG. He doesn't have to look like an All Star - just hold his own.

Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
Well, I'm 99% Murray doesn't see a second in the playoffs unless its garbage time. I know people hate TP now, but that does not make Murray automatically the answer. Especially not this year.
Will he get more opportunity next season to PROVE he can get minutes? Most likely. Especially if he takes this off season seriously. But just putting him in over TP doesn't mean things improve and I dont think everyone grasps that concept.

I hope you're wrong :lol
Spurs really need a ball handling guard who can penetrate. I think you're correct but... I hope we're wrong.
SL offense can't get a defense rotating to save their lives... unless its Kawhi and then you're kicking the ball out to non-threatening guards. Very off-topic, but when Tony/Danny gets the kickout they are so slow in making a move that it always gives the defense a chance to recover, very annoying.

Meh. Maybe you're right. But just to give the other two a blow? Or to try and inject come energy in a game where the Spurs just can't get over the hump? I guess that means 50 year-old Manu is it?
I sure as hell don't see how Bryn Forbes can get minutes. Tony or Patty tweaks an ankle or something, I hope Pop rolls the dice on Murray. Forbes looks like a damn deer in the headlights, whenever anyone steps in front of him. My opinion, Patty and Forbes are both undersized 2-guards.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
Look at it this way: Murray was not really playing when TP/Mills/Manu were active in the regular season. He then got injured for a longtime and missed crucial practice & game development time. Playoffs are usually not the testing grounds.

You understand that I've been saying since the preseason that the Spurs were too weak at the point to go deep into the playoffs. I guess I can't see through any other lens. In an ideal world, both back up PG's wouldn't be undersized 2 guards. I'd roll the dice on a kid who COULD play the point. But you're probably right - Pop won't. I'd be surprised if you aren't right.
But if they call me up to fill in for Pop, we're going to test Murray out in the playoffs. Count on it.

Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
He's part of the Spurs future. Would rather throw him out there and see what he can do than to see what Parker can't do yet again.

That's true, although I think the consensus here is that even if Murray played poorly it's not a big change in the production we're getting with Tony. (Poorly - as in missing shots/not being in the position he should be.... not poorly as in a complete turd being laid on the floor)
Dijon would probably play like a rookie, but does his strengths, which are the spurs SL weakness, offset that?

This. I'd give Murray a few minutes in the early games and see whether he can step up to the pressure. It's not like Parker is going to do shit. I don't think I have seen a Spurs player go downhill at the rate Parker has since Steve Smith or Paul Pressey.

You said it shorter and better, but that's pretty much it.

There's no guarantee a late first round pick has any future in the NBA tbh, much less the Spurs tbh.

Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
He's not seeing the floor in the playoffs so it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, because every team tends to shorten rotations in the playoffs, and the Spurs regularly go 12 deep...and Murray is like the 11th man when healthy. The Spurs will typically run 9 or 10 guys per game in the playoffs.
I could see this being an exception, though, when you consider the lack of a true backup PG (Mills being more of a shooting specialist).

You're forgetting what kind of mad scientist coach we have. Last time in the playoffs against Memphis (2011) it was Bonner and Blair together. I'm sort of half expecting Forbes and Anderson to see serious crunch time minutes this playoffs.

Exactly, Parker is so bad right now that giving Murray a chance is a good thing, he could have little minutes during the first games vs Memphis to see what happens.

Exception: 2003 Steve Kerr providing Championship pursuit saving minutes.
Of course it took an injury for CIA Cementhead to put Kerr in but.....

As much as I would have loved to see Murray developed as a wildcard to throw at some teams when we need energy and length, he is unlikely to see the floor much in these playoffs.
Unless Pop has gone completely CIA and Murray has been just fine and being trained to electrify the world out of nowhere! So since that didn't happen...you're right.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
I wouldnt get your hopes up, he could score 40pts and break down any defense, but Pop isnt gonna play him in the playoffs. Thats just how pop is.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
LMAO OP pretending that's he's connected to the Spurs...

Agreed. Some people on here talk like they think he is the missing piece to a championship, and that's just not true. Not yet at least
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
the fact that they are trying to get murray some minutes tonight can't be read into too much; clearly, murray will be on the active playoff roster if he is healthy enough to go but his PT will really be predicated on the health of parker and mills or flat-out desperation mode.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
he will only see minutes in garbage time which will be rare in the playoffs ... and then when the Spurs are down 2:3 and -10 points at halftime in game 6 of whatever round

and that's too bad. one would think had he been healthy over this last month and a half he may have been able to get in more meaningful minutes during the playoffs.

Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
If pop is already saying the warriors are unbeatable, what's there to lose?

So? Point is, a late first round pick is historically no means a guarantee in the NBA. Even lottery picks are no guarantee. There's a lot more guys who turn out to be scrubs and fall out of the league in a few years than guys who turn out to be good players in the late first round.

Most first round picks from Murray's draft class will be non-entities in the NBA. Surprised he fell as far as he did considering how weak the rookie class is.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
Pretty sure he'll only play garbage minutes in the playoffs. It wouldn't be fair otherwise.

But the post i responded to said no guarantee the spurs would put the future in the hands of a late first round rookie...and I rightfully pointed out they did it with tony parker..and it was the right move...just as this is the right move to play Murray...Murray right now is more talented than a rookie parker
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
There were so many Parker's/Patty's bad games late in the season in where Murray could have had consistent minutes...Now, it seems too late. Anyway, he didnt look that bad in his 5 minutes.
-
Re: Just got word that Murray is suiting up tomorrow...
Does his freeness seem to have been taken away?
Almost like he has been ordered to overthink?
"Be like Chris Paul slurp slurp" :pop:
