They don't play the same position, not sure why you would think that. It's far more likely Gay takes the place of Dedmon, maybe even him + Lee, and they still re-sign Simmons.

We shall see. They may play different positions but might have had a similar role as bench scorer? I doubt Gay is going to be just a floor spacer. I mean I'll wait to see what happens but it was the first thing to come to mind.

Tim Hardaway Jr. was traded for Jerian Grant who was traded for Derrick Rose who was renounced so NYK could sign Hardaway Jr. for $71M.

Re: Official 2017 Offseason Thread
Does SA even want Hanga now? Does Pau get more than one-year? Is 2018 cap space really viable with Mills now on the books, likely Simmons, likely Pau, Rudy Gay?
Assuming Pau is back, that leaves only LMA/Pau as legit bigs. Does Lee come back? Muli come over?
What about Manu? Already a ton of guards and if you add in Hanga does that leave room for Manu or do they cut Forbes for Manu?
Still lots of questions.

Re: Official 2017 Offseason Thread
:lol Bath house of Rudy Gay, lol that was genius. What happened to that thread it would be fun if he doesnt live up to all the hype. I think and hoping he does!

Re: Official 2017 Offseason Thread
Simmons is a better piece now if we play small with Gay at the 4. He can take advantage of more spacing with his athleticism. Gay's passing allows him to cut off ball.
I hope Gay recovers well from his injury. Even little moves like this get me excited about the season. Especially because we may be playing much differently next year.

I'd take Gay with one leg as a higher chance of success than Simmons. Simmons is completely unproven. Gay is proven, and while he might have a dropoff, its still a higher chance of success. Especially given the price.

There is no way Rudy Gay signed for less w/ SA to play a limited bench role, especially behind Kawhi -- where minutes are limited as is. This is probably the most important contract year in his career at age 30.
He'll likely start at the 4 and I'm sure that came up in negotiations.
DJ/Mills - Green - Kawhi - Gay - LMA
DJ/Mills - Hanga or Manu - Simmons - Bertans or Kyle - Pau
TP - Forbes - Lee - White
Blossomgame + another two way contract.
Kyle or Bertans will likely be the odd man out.

Does Gay signing basically mean either Manu retires or Simmons is gone?

Re: Official 2017 Offseason Thread
Using numbers from basketballreference, 2018 FA is looking good for SA.
Spurs salaries on the books for 2018-2019:
Aldridge - 22m (player option)
Leonard - 20m
Mills - 12.5m
Gasol - TBD 8-15m
Green - 10m (player option)
Gay - 8.5m (player option)
White - 1.5m
At most that'll be 89.5m.
If the players opt out and Gasol is on the lower end then it's only 42m.
Meaning Spurs may have 60 million in cap space for summer 2018.

Not close. Both can be back.

At the expense of LDN being traded?

You have a good point... It still popped into my mind JSimms isn't going to be back. Maybe based on wrong assumptions.

If Simmons get/signs an offer of 15M+/yr you betcha Spurs won't match. In that scenario yeah, SA should want/get Hanga.

Just need a "legit PF" for the last spot and then a developmental center for the second two-way slot, and we're golden.
I mean looking at this... where do you see Manu and Simmons? This roster is crowded already in guards

Gay's passing. :lol
Has more career turnovers than assists and has generally been considered a black hole on every team he has been on.

Why can't he just be a hole? So much racism on this site.

Re: Official 2017 Offseason Thread
So 17 roster spots allowable starting for this upcoming season?
