Tony should rest until the WCF or next season, tbh...
At his age there's no point in risking a quick return and a career ender... he's still has another year in his contract...
Take your time, and as far as Houston goes, as long as they're missing 3s and not getting phantom calls, we can compete, IMO...

I already said in the OP we can compete, not necessarily we can win... but I think this could also spark Kawhi to go to another gear, IMO...

His career is pretty much over if its an acl tear, or microfracture. At his age it's impossible to recover from that type of injury.

Chris Webber had the same injury and he was never the same again. Amare had it when he was young but it definitely cut short his career. The same injury destroyed Penny Hardaway's career. I don't see Parker coming back from a microfracture injury the odds are against him. He will be a lot worse then he was this season if he attempts a comeback.

Re: Tony should rest until the WCF or next season, tbh...
I just posted in the game thread, but I'll copy it here.
I just got through watching that play several times. He didn't come down on his left leg at all, and his left was hanging while he was in the air. Pretty sure he hurt it launching. And when a guy goes down like that, and there's no contact, it's often a ligament. Looking at where he was rubbing, I'm thinking maybe LCL. Even if they say it's a severe "knee sprain", those usually involve some small tearing. I don't think we see him again this season - I just don't think Pop will put him back on the floor any time soon, even if it's a sprain, and risk a full ligament tear.
I don't know anything more than what we could see on TV, but I know a bit about sports injuries. I think it would be a minor miracle if he gets back on the court this season. I don't know... maybe if it's officially a sprain, and they make it to the Finals. But if you have it recorded, look at the way that left leg is hanging on his way up. That looks like a ligament tear as he was launching.
Edit: Sometimes when an MCL gets strained/torn that way, it hurts on both sides. But he wasn't rubbing where I would expect for ACL. Still bad, and still likely to take too long to heal for this playoff run.

Never saw Tony get carried off the court before. If it's not season ending it will be very good fortune for the Spurs. It's probably season ending and if the Spurs go one to play the Warriors in the WCF, yet another break for that team.

If it's a full tear it wouldn't surprise me, but I think he wants that $16mil enough to try for a comeback next season regardless. Plus he said himself he wants to play 20 seasons.

I never felt like getting the exact stat, but I think Tony may have the second most NBA minutes of any PG in history, behind Stockton. I'm almost certain he's in the top 5 among PG's for minutes played. That's a lot of years AND a lot of miles. If it's a full tear, and he's looking at Kobe Bryant surgery/recovery? It's not out of the question.
Damn.

Just a hunch? I know when the staff came out on the floor, he pointed at a spot just above his knee, so you could be right. Everything about his reaction though, looked like a guy who felt something pop.
Somehow this just all feels worse because of how great Tony had been playing this postseason. He really had turned back the clock.

Tim had the Punisher brace to keep his leg intact and to minimize movement that leads to ACL tears. TP did not wear a brace. It's just a freak event.

Hi Kori,
What does Timvp think about the way Kawhi has been playing? Does he think Kawhi can play PG for a chunk of the game/s going forward? I think we're asking too much of Kawhi, but he's going to have to do even more. I believe he can.

Well you were right. The pics are what he looked like in the air, and coming down. He already knew his leg couldn't take any weight, in the split second he was going up for that shot. And when the trainers came out, that's exactly the spot he was pointing at - so he must have felt it pop, which is nasty to even think about. People speculating about next year? I doubt it.

If he goes through the rehab for this injury, at his age, and still wants to play 4 more years? Then he deserves to. I don't think we see him again as a player.

I hope he does make a comeback. But would prefer his time with the spurs to end when that contract expires at the end of next season. Dont mind him coming back on a low end contract but couldnt stomach a 1 year 14 million contract like manu. That would screw everything up cap wise next summer.
I feel bad as a fan. I turned on him a bit this year because I thought the writing on the wall was etched in stone. And then he pulls a rabbit out of the hat come playoff time and turns back the clock and starts balling. And then the quad happens.
shouldnt have written him off but so happy he hit a high gear in the playoffs. Props to tony and good luck with a comeback.

Sad day... Very sad. My hope is that Murray can gain some vet control, all of a sudden, and show this team he can be it's PG going forward. He could do it.
Otherwise things get quite complicated this off-season.

Yeah, I was hoping I wasn't right, but when timvp and I rewatched the play last night, we both thought it wasn't ACL/MCL and that it was his quad. The reason I thought that was because TP was perplexed when it happened - like people are when their Achilles gets torn... all of sudden their body is disconnected. I assume it was a horrible rupture.
I mean, he could conceivably be back by the All-Star break next year. But Tony has had quad issues on and off throughout his career, so sadly, we might not see him in uniform again. I know a lot of people hate him here, but he's given a lot to the organization and it's a sad way to see him go out.

Re: Tony should rest until the WCF or next season, tbh...
I think he will play again but it makes you wonder if he will ever be the same player. Spurs will have to explore options of a trade or something if they want to stay an NBA title contender since he could be out to February of 2018. That could have been Parker's last game as a Spur.

If he retires, they can stretch his last year, and get some cap relief.
There's another angle I'm not sure of. If they keep him on the books, and he isn't able to come back, they can apply for a medical exception on the 1-year anniversary of his last game, and his salary gets removed from the cap picture. That wouldn't help them acquire another player for next season, because the season would basically be over. But... if they spend themselves into the lux tax acquiring players, could shedding his salary at the end of the season (from the medical exception) reduce their salary total enough to get them back under the lux tax threshold? That at least would save them a chunk of cash, and keep them from being repeat offenders on the tax.
At the very least, I think they could stretch his last year, and THEN apply for the medical exception this time next year, and avoid the cap hit for his second and third years of the stretch.
That's sort of callous, less than 24 hours after the injury, but the show must go on. Regardless of what "some people" think of Tony, he's had an incredible career here, and his number will be hanging in the rafter soon after he retires - as it should. I'm just looking at, "What will the Spurs do now?"
