Top 5 Players of the Season

With Kawhi on the horizon, here are my Top 5, Spurs players of the season (based on performance and production this season, not potential, ability or previous seasons' performance).

1. LaMarcus
2. Pau
3. Rudy
4. Kyle
5. Danny (Some might want to put others here, but Danny's D gives him the nod)

Truthfully, 2-5 are almost even and can be re-ordered nearly any way.

Will update at the 2/3 season mark.

Yeah, its just my opinion, but at least I didn't post the 4th game thread for tonight. So could be worse. :lol

I feel like Aldridge, Gasol, and Anderson were clearly our 3 best players

Based on OP's criteria, I cannot rank Tony that high. However his absence for about a quarter of the season demonstrated clearly that in order of importance to the team of players other than Kawhi your list would be pretty good. For evidence just look at the ranking of the other PGs - Dijon at 9 and 50Mills AWOL. :toast

Rudy has been able to step up lately and I think he will continue to be impactful.. but Anderson was really steady when he played, and helped win games when most everyone else but the 3 above mentioned (and Danny for some games) were the only ones playing well.

Lately though, Rudy has been important since neither Kawhi or Kyle were available to play and I think without a legit SF, the Spurs would have been in trouble. Also, at this point, the Spurs finally have many roleplayers playing well, which is for the best.

Actually threads like this are fun to keep track of during the season and all.

without us doing game grades and all that trouble that Chinook went through last season, it's nice to keep track of team performances at least in a summary version.

He'll have to show he can do it at 15-25 mpg. He ain't gonna get 27-35 mpg with Kawhi back.

Reviewing this ranking as we are now more than half way through the season. It's admittedly tough as no one has been consistently good except LMA. Pau veers from great to horrible. Kyle has been good but missed some time. Same with Rudy. Kawhi isnt yet Kawhi and has missed so much time. It's really LMA and to hell with everyone else. But, I've a ranking to do so....

1. LMA
(gap about 2 AU's in diameter.)
2. Pau (though he retains his #2 slot only because nobody else has stepped up at all)
3. Kyle
4. Kawhi (probably too high given his lack of actual playing time, but whatever. If he played more he'd be 1 or 2, so this is my crappy middle of the fence ranking).
5. Manu (though you could put Forbes here, I guess. Jesus no one is playing well)

As we are at the All Star break time for the Top 5 of the season list...

1. LMA (No contest, really, or better said, sadly).

2. Kyle (Gap is huge down from LMA, and Kyle has been consistent on defense and sometimes good on o. Gets the nod since no one else deserves it)

3. Pau (Has many games where he is the best or second best player on the team, and others where he looks old and/or disengaged)

4. Danny (Underappreciated on this site. Still, doesn't mean he's been stellar this year. Just better than most the rest.)

5. Manu (Stats aren't good, but when he's on, we usually win. Rudy and Kawhi have missed too much time for this slot. DJ, Forbes, Tony, Davis, Patty too inconsistent. Paul and the deep-scrub bench nonfactors).

Really very few have exceeded expectations except LMA, Kyle and Rudy (when healthy). I suppose Tony exceeded them by coming back from a career-threatening injury so well, but can't quite put him ahead of Manu.

I agree with this list, although I definitely think Murray is worth consideration.
Danny has been trending up lately IMO, which is a great sign...but now I'm worried about the agency change

Me too. May be looking for a bigger pay day. Perhaps, elsewhere.

Murray has his moments. Would love to see him blossom. It wouldn't take much to go as high as #2 on the list. Everyone outside of LMA is sort of meh...
