No Dicky Thon? Richard Hidalgo gets a place on the thread card memorial but Dicky Thon doesn't? Pathetic.
BTW, I really despise the Astros, excepting Clemens of course...and have since I was a little kid(and the uniforms made it easy), but props to them for making it to the WS and doing the state proud...it's about damn time Texas had a team make the WS and it's good to know we have at least one real team in the state. Finally...
LMAO...does anyone remember earlier this year when the Rangers and Astros were discussing a possible Clemens trade becasue the Astros weren't going to make the playoffs? Surreal....
dont forget

Hooray for the 'Stros, but compared to the insanity that SA has for the Spurs it's been kind of subdued. Not only that, but so many people are just so thrilled that they got to the series it almost sounds like no one around here expects them to win. And you can say, "Well, the Spurs are all that SA has," but there's really no other game in town in Houston right now. The Rockets are only in pre-season and the Texans are playing like a high school team (and a pretty bad high school team at that). I'm just surprised there isn't more hoopla around the city for them.
Go for it.Quote:

in a 7 game series I don;t see how losing 1 after a 3 game win is considered a choke.
thats people's emotions talking.
It was a choke (everybody chokes occasionally) but the Astros proved in Game 6 that they are not "Chokers."
It wasn't losing 1, Obi - it was being 1 strike and 1 out away from the World Series and watching Pujols smash that bitch over the wall.
The stomach lurch from crazy ass delirious excitement to Dear God That Did NOT Just Happen is very similar to .4 for us.

The Astros as a team didn't choke in Game 5, but Lidge got psyched or something after he got 2 outs and Eckstein did his bleeder through the left side. Lidge lost his control badly with Edmonds and then the Pujols slider was pure salami. Lidge went through the mental meat-grinder, or something. Hey, it happens.
Exactly. Its all about winning 4 games. Thats it. The Spurs are considered the reiging champions, even though they were up 3-0 to Phx (went to 3-1 then won it 4-1) and up 3-2 (went to 3-3 then won it 4-3) to Det, not chokers.Quote:

I don't think the Astros choked...I think Albert FREAKING Pujols got hold of one and jacked it out of the yard...the pitch wasn't really a bad pitch...I am sure Lidge would have preferred it didn't flatten out as much, but it was still a slider...That was all about Albert Pujols there. It wasn't like it was Ozzie Smith that FREAKING CRUSHED that ball...
I don't look at giving up that type of HR to, easily, a guy that's going to be a top 10 hitter ever, as a choke...More like an example of how walks can kill you. I guess you could say walking Edmunds was a choke...but that wasn't what cost them the game...IF John Cangelosi is hitting behind Edmunds then the game has a different outcome.
No choke there...and I doubt Lidge is going to dwell on it, now that Pujols is done.

I've moved on, just as the Astros have, but that's why they call them "mistake pitches" and "quarter pounders with no cheese". The human factor is a part of baseball.Quote:
