Re: Kawhi is not resigning here
The biggest issue facing the spurs. Can the spurs afford another season of kawhi sitting with this mystery injury . Keep in mind he got his own group that decides if he clear to play or not. The precedent has been set, Spurs docs will have no sway. Kawhi wont want to play through pain even if he gets told he cant make it any worse. They have had a season to realize his pain threshold will have him sitting rather than playing. Spurs are in tight spot here.

interesting. Kawhi's team therefore placing all bets on a trade at the end of the season. Can Kawhi afford not to play for two entire seasons and come out with his credentials intact to re join the league as a top five player? Massive risk for him. The Spurs can chugg along quite dandy in the new season with the existing team +- a couple of tweaks riding LMA and developing their young talent. They do not desperately NEED to be a contender . They do very little or nothing under pressure. So they can easily freeze him and build smartly as they have always done. Mos interesting space to WATCH.

Sit on bench whole next year.

Never seen anything like it. And he has all the leverage in the world. No way a team trades for him entering into his last year if he doesn't express he wants to be there. If he is willing to sit out a year in SA he'll sit out anywhere.

Derrick rose?

Re: Kawhi is not resigning here
Well he won't be able to sit forever. Seems like if he wanted out he would have been traded already. Maybe there were offers. But all signs suggest the spurs really wanted him to return around the all star break. If be made the trade demand before that why would the spurs be expecting him back?
Now it could be a legit misdirection play, that kawhi is trying to threaten leaving to get the spurs super max. If kawhi is permanently injured he needs that leverage. I think that with other teams spoiling to create a drama explains most of the leaked info

Lmao. Plenty of teams will trade for him just to get the chance to entice him to stay. He hasn't even openly said he wants to be in LA like PG and even Presti gave up two solid young players with upside for a 1 year rental of George. Get outta here with that "he has all the leverage" nonsense. Spurs have 50 million guaranteed worth of leverage on their side

SA tried everything from begging to peer pressure to get him to play with the superman in their pocket and he wouldn't. And you think they have leverage?

What your failing to understand is that TD, Manu or Tony never sat out a whole year with basically a sore quad. All three of these guys probably can't believe what is going on, and they all probably can't fathom sitting out that long with a similar injury. That's the issue. That is the point.
GET THAT THROUGH YOU THICK SKULL.
Now, he could still be injured and if he still is, it's bad news because that means it could be chronic. He may be done as a top level player if he's still legit injured from an injury that doesn't require surgery.

That's why I think he gets traded. Pop will ship his ass out quicker than he can blink for pulling this shit. Getting over yourself and all that jazz...
He's gonna be traded. And at this point, I hope it happens. I fully blame this lackluster season on him. Not so much that he was injured but because he can't contribute at all, or show up on the bench.

He just needs more rest

Re: Kawhi is not resigning here
Teams will come after him as soon as season ends. RC and Pop better get the best deal possible I don’t care what team just as long as we get a good player and draft picks.

19M to sit on his ass. Pathetic.

We have been through this over and over and over and over. He is missing an entire season over an injury that he was medically cleared to play months ago. This would never happen to Tim Duncan. It doesn’t happen now to the star players in the league. Only him.

What he does not want to acknowledge, is the simple reality that Leonard is refusing to play through pain. Players need to play through pain sometimes. Especially when the doctors are clearing you to play. Steph Curry has been injured like three times this season with his ankles. The ankles have been problematic in the past. He is not going to come back at 100% in the playoffs. But he is going to come back. This is what Leonard is refusing to do. Thus people are really losing respect for him.

Exactly. You've put it very succinctly. Hopefully Duncan2k5 can understand that.
Now if this is an issue that Kawhi's been having for years, since 2012 or so and he's getting sick of it, then I can understand him wanting to get this under control once and for all. That would be the only reason I can understand with him wanting to sit out. If it's not related to his previous bouts, and if he's been cleared, then he should be playing IMO.

Ya agree. Also , Docs only clear you knowing that you cant make the injury any worse. He may have found a NY quack that suggests otherwise.

I'm 37 and been a huge fan of the NBA since I was 9. I have never seen anything like this with a star player. Medically cleared to play and refuses to basically all season long. A team meeting where is confronted and he still won't go.. It is insane..
-
Re: Kawhi is not resigning here
I also don't get how most of the former players are saying he's doing the right thing and are on his side. They must be a bunch of dickless pussies.

This is why the discussion regarding mental illness has been placed on the table. If it ain't physical, and it ain't financial, then its mental.

Barkley didn't, but everyone else did.

Saw this on reddit: https://961now.iheart.com/featured/t...w-house-in-sa/
Kawhi is building a new house in SA and spent $2 mil for the foundation.
