Quote:
SAN ANTONIO (March 26, 2018) – The NBA today announced that San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 19, through Sunday, March 25. Cleveland’s LeBron James was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. With his 10th career Player of the Week honor, Aldridge becomes just the third player to wear a Spurs uniform to be named Player of the Week at least 10 times, joining David Robinson (14) and Tim Duncan (23). This marks the second time he has been named Player of the Week since joining the Silver and Black in 2015.
Aldridge averaged 34.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.00 blocks in 34.8 minutes for the week, while shooting .596 (56-94) from the field and .867 (26-30) from the foul line. He led the team in scoring in all four games and helped the Spurs go 3-1 for the week. Aldridge started off the week by scoring 33 points (13-22 FG, 7-7 FT) to go along with 12 rebounds and 2 blocks in 35 minutes in an 89-75 victory against Golden State on March 19. It was his sixth game of the season with 30-plus points and 10-plus rebounds, the most in a single season by a Spur since Tim Duncan's six in 2004-05. Two nights later he finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in 31 minutes in a 98-90 win vs. Washington on March 21. On Friday, Aldridge posted a career-high 45 points (19-28, 1-1 3FG, 6-8 FT), including 28 in the first half, to lift San Antonio over Utah 124-120 in overtime, becoming just the fifth Spur in the last 20 years to eclipse the 40-point mark. He added 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists in 41 minutes of work. To finish out the week, Aldridge recorded his 16th game of the season with 30-or-more points, tallying 34 (12-21 FG, 10-12 FT), 7 rebounds and 2 assists in 32 minutes in a 103-106 loss at Milwaukee.
Aldridge has paced the Spurs in scoring 52 times this season, second in the NBA behind LeBron James - 56. He is just fifth Spur in franchise history to lead the team in scoring 50 times in a season joining Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan, David Robinson and George Gervin. Over his last five games he’s combined to score 178 points, the most points Aldridge has recorded over a five-game stretch in his career.
Aldridge is averaging a team-best 23.2 points to go along with 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.16 steals in 33.5 minutes while shooting .508 (614-1,2019) from the floor, and.835 (303-363) from the free throw line.
WELL DESERVED!

First things first is getting to the playoffs. I’d say this season he’s been a superstar given the offseason trade request and the season long Kawhi drama. His play has kept the Spurs respectable for what otherwise would’ve been a lottery season.

He just need like +27 FGAs a game like against Pels to feel comfortable so he'll have success in first round against some mediocre team like Wolves/Blazers/Pels.
But when things get thight in semis, sadly he'll underperform, he'll be the same LMA against Warriors last season.

Yep. Very odd that our best active player winning an (admittedly short term) award immediately turns into a negative thread about his perceived lack of performance in the playoffs. Some of it is ST being ST, some of it falls on LMA because when you're a star player and haven't won a ring pundits will always say you wilt no matter who the player is (even LeBron and Jordan faced this shtick until they got rings, and no I'm not comparing LMA to them, just that it comes with the ringless territory) and some of it is by hardcore Kawhi fans who somehow feel threatened by another Spur carrying the load this season.

The issue is that a real superstar could mantain the Spurs as 2nd best record in the league like last two seasons or even make them the top team in a season where Warriors seem so vulnerable and Rockets missing Harden/CP3 in some games.
A real superstar could carry his team by himself to making Conference Finals like Kawhi did last year/ making the Finals like Lebron did every year in the weak East.
IDK...But I wouldn't call LMA superstar in any sense of the word.

The Rockets are a historically good team - going to be in the mid-60s win total. The Warriors added Durant to a 73 win team so have plenty of depth.
LMA might lead the Spurs to a 4 seed, and possibly a 3 if Portland self destructs, but at worst a playoff spot. Swap Curry or Harden into LMA’s spot and they’d struggle with this roster. Durant and Lebron are different beasts.
Team was structured around Kawhi and everything is broken with him out. Except LMA refuses to lose.

Other option could be people overreacting about LMA season and calling him superstar now. He's a great player, a top 15-20 player in the league without doubt. But I wouldn't call all those 15 players superstars.
I guess calling him that way only provokes negative reactions.

I didn't call him a superstar. I called him a star and our best active player, which are both true. I'm not sure why the Kawhi devout are so upset by LMA's performance. For me, a Spur is a Spur.
And since Kawhi is out well, as the song goes...."If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" :lol

I doubt it. Since what this roster needs is perimeter great scorers and 3-point shooters. I can't imagine anyone better at it than Curry/Harden

If this roster was built around Kawhi we shouldn't get two big guys like LMA and Pau together killing space in Kawhi's drives
We shouldn't get four guys (Kawhi LMA Rudy Pau) having the same favorite spot on court to take their mid-js...
If this roster was built around Kawhi the Spurs should get many reliable 3-point shooters to allow him to drive&kick...I doubt Kyle and DJ are those shooters in the starting lineup.

Or hardcore Manu fans too.
I am going the way of raybies lately.
Sometimes one does need a break from all this negativity and hate trolling.

Too late for that. He should have done it the last two seasons when the team was a title contender.

Why would Kawhi fans feel threatened? We WANT Kawhi to have another star... Kawhi plays at such a high level, if he ever gets outplayed by a teammate, that would make us unbeatable

Really ElNono! LMA has been carrying us all season! He's been awesome since we Kawhi is too soft to try to play or just tell us he's out for the season!

Well said! Haters just hating on LMA! Give him props for what he's done while soft Kawhi's been sitting on the bench!

He had a poor first game against Houston then a very strong overall series after that. He would have won the Thunder series had Kawhi been better to start. He was the best overall player in that series.

Kawhi, Harden, etc. never dealt with any of the drama that the Spurs have had this year. LMA won't get the credit he deserves this year.

Re: LaMarcus Named Western Conference Player of the Week
I didn't watch the game, how bad did Aldridge look when he left the game? Hopefully it's season ending so the Spurs can tank and get that #14 pick instead of something in the early 20s if they maintain their spot in the standings.

Well deserved. LMA has completely pulled a 180 as far as image and fans turning on him. Everyone wanted him gone, including myself.
He put in work this summer and got into shape and came in like a true professional this year.
You can take 15 to 20 wins off the board if he was out this year. And i consider that to be a conservative estimate.

doubt there's any Spur out there , aside from Kawhi & his uncle that wants to be part of the team that breaks the special 20yo playoff streak.
I feel sorry for LA & the team. You could tell from his LA's words & actions of late pride was kicking in, not just for himself but for the likes of Manu & Tony . He was putting this team on its back to make sure this playoffs streak continues. Wonder how much thought Kawhi is giving it.

Doing that in a series is the next level and some more. Doing that throughout a series is a complete carry.

He walked under his own power, but with a pretty pronounced limp. Went straight back to the locker room. Looks like one of those injuries that could be 3 days or 3 weeks.
Frankly, if Aldridge is out for any significant time, the Spurs probably wont need to try to tank...if they play like yesterday, it's gonna be an ugly end to the season.

that billboard early in the season turned out prophetic. Lamarcus would have to put the team on his back all season .

Not gonna talk about Kawhi because "inner-player fan" would be an issue on this point about "drama" versions. I hate so much these false narratives about tense meeting, wainting to play in SA...Better talk about Harden.
I really dislike Harden but I have to admit he carried the Rockets to the WCF in a season with all the drama between Howard and him, plus Harden's issues with McHale.
When LMA had problems with how Pop coaching him, he had one of his worst seasons of his career and asked for a trade.
In the same situation, Harden made WCF.
Again, I dislike Harden but we can't ignore what he did in 2015. On other hand, LMA didn't pass first round in 2015.
Like I said in other thread, I know this sounds "bitching on LMA" but I've always said the same thing, he's a great #2 on a top team but he's not a superstar, a main guy on his team either.
It's a big deal when he thinks he's that guy when he can't be that type of player.
Anyway, I wish his knee's fine. If I didn't say it before, it's pretty obvious that his week's award was well deserved.

Re: LaMarcus Named Western Conference Player of the Week
LMA is being shut down for the year. All part of the plan. Get his numbers up; check; prestige built and reputation restored. Spurs can miss the playoffs, and trade a much more valuable Aldridge in the off-season. Leonard signs Supermax & returns fully healed (been fine pretty much all season, but this was the deal Pop worked out with LMA - scratch each other's back). Everyone wins. Conspiracy can be stretched even further; package inordinately large Mills/Gasol contract with LMA to match salaries with other Supermax to partner with Kawhi. LeBron probably.
Best CIA Pop ever.
