i am just stating what was written which is that kawhi keeps in contact with pop and that he would have been there for support to pop if he had been there coaching. whether that is accurate is left for people to decide. making judgments on whether or not this is a good thing or bad thing is not really my concern.
now if there was only an article as to what the writers of this article don't know we could have an idea of what was entirely going on; even some of the so called revelations in the article are hidden in vagueness.
That's actually NOT the only option, and a terrible one if they don't agree on his health. This cannot go into next season unresolved. They also cannot get saddled with that contract if he is NOT healthy. The last year is almost $50M. If he's not playing at an All NBA level, that contract could cripple the franchise. If his uncle is truly running things, that gets ugly, too.
His uncle has absolutely no idea what he's doing and it sounds like he's letting greed get in the way of the right decisions here. He could very well completely ruin his nephews career with a couple more wrong moves. Pretty sad for Kawhi tbh, I think he genuinely wants to be in SA.
On ESPN's, Get Up Mike Greenberg stated it's obvious that the relationship between the Spurs and Kawhi is fractured, but $219 million could easily repair the relationship. Jalen Rose was the negative saying that Kawhi could make that money up elsewhere and that he thinks Kawhi won't be playing with the Spurs next season. Woj was on there briefly, but really didn't provide anything worthy to be mentioned here.
Lol Jalen is such a dumb fucking POS, if I needed his opinion I'd go down to a local barbershop or a local fast food joint and ask for it there tbh
After reading the article and listening to the Lowe / Shelburne podcast , I'm not as pissed with Kawhi as I was before. The Spurs have had so much success over the years by doing things their way and being in complete control of their players and organization. If you've ever had to deal with control-freaks in your life, you know how jilted and out-of-whack they become once you wrestle some control away from them. It's not pretty.
I get a sense that is what happened. Once Kawhi went with a second medical opinion & rehab regimen, the Spurs FO became paranoid, angry and frustrated at their loss of control. They blame the uncle and his new representation for the lack of communication. Undoubtedly it threw them for a loop and they DID NOT handle it well.
There is blame to go around on both sides. I hope Kawhi gets better and they reach an agreement.
It confirms exactly what we suspected at the end of the season. Kawhi isn't too soured on SA, but his camp is manipulating him for financial gains. They want to see him in LA/NY so they can turn his success into their brand success. Kawhi just wants to play basketball, and loves Pop apparently.
I still think he needs to man up and start handling this situation like a man. Take control over things and do them the way he wants, not the way his uncle or sister or agent or whoever wants. But that's on him.
To me it's the only option. Any trade will most likely not produce a player even close to Kawhi's all world talents. The Spurs should risk it given Kawhi's history with the club and of course his talent. I'm not worried about his health and the team seems to think he's healthy enough to play. Nevertheless, the dynamic between the organization and his representation need to be resolved. I typically agree with Pop on most things when it comes to the team but his passive aggressive barbs to the media definitely didn't help the situation. If anything, it made Kawhi look bad and why would you want to alienate your franchise player. This whole incident has been handled poorly on both sides and I'm sure there are other nuggets that we still don't know. The fact is Kawhi is one of if not the best player in the league in my opinion and we should do whatever it takes to bring him back in the fold.
tbh kawhi's injury seems like something that will always be a problem and keep him from being his previous self
I'm positive that the Spurs didn't really like him going to go get a second opinion, but they did let him do that. I'm sure it threw them for a loop as it has everyone who follows the NBA. It's crazy. No one expected. We fans became frustrated so can you imagine the organization, Pop, RC, and the ownership? Of course they're frustrated and pissed. This guy is their franchise player making $19. Of course they're going to become unhappy. I would too.
Just sounds like what has been said all along, Kwahi's uncle has his own motives. He's ruined communication between Kwahi and the Spurs. He thinks because he's done banking work, he knows how to manage a professional career. He's got his own interests that run counter to that of Kwahi. The injury is really a second issue and feels like a smaller one ...
I don't need an apology from Kawhi to fans for what happened this year. I can believe that he was mishandled, that there was some blame on both sides or whatever. If it seems like his teammates forgive him, I wouldn't hold him a grudge, because the broken chemistry was really my main issue with how Leonard has been handling this so far.
However, this does not mean I'd want him to get a DPE contract. The article pretty much suggests what I had said earlier: The Spurs believe Kawhi's injury is permanent while Kawhi's camp believes it's something he can recover from if given enough time. A Kawhi who's never more than a part-time player again is simply not worth the DPE. That was one of the worst additions to a CBA that I've seen in a long time. Very few players are worth it, and even fewer teams can afford the contract regardless of what players they have. A healthy and fully committed Kawhi is as worth it on his end, but it was always going to be a dicey proposition for the team to accommodate him. A Leonard is never reaches his former heights isn't worth that.
Banking work? Motherfucker sounds like a BOA branch manager.
Your going to have a lot of scenarios in the future where a team is going to be in similar situation to what the Wolves were with KG for the first half of his career. A team will be able to keep their star with the super max but won't be able to build a winning team due to the supermax eating up most of the cap space.
Kawhi is a fucking idiot, should be asking guys with more experience what to do, like Eddie Johnson, Shawn Kemp or maybe Robert Swift.
Holy shit, what a clusterfuck! Both sides have handled this terribly. Kinda feel bad for Kawhi but he should get representation from an agency whose website isn’t “under maintenance”. Maybe he and Pop will bond over loss or something.
If Kawhi returns a nice 30pt game to start will make this all go away.
Dam, Uncle Dennis even freeloading off Kawhi at White Castle :wow
