With Tony's departure and Manu's potential retirement, its now time to rank them.
The Era is done. Ginobili and Parker wont be achieving anything at this point in their careers. So How would you rank the best Spur of all time?
Obviously I'm gonna refrain from naming one player whose accomplishment alone would have sitting as the best ever in many franchise but I realizes spursfans have blood in their underwear right now. So with that said, heres my top list.
1. TD - Popvich is nothing but a glorified Coach Bud without this guy. 47 wins without a star lol.
2. David Robinson - Season MVP enough said.
3. Tony Parker - Finals MVP, 4 time All NBA, 6 time All star.
4. Geroge Gervin - played in the 70s amd back then being able to do a layup in an athletic manner is as big as an accomplishment as winning a chip. Not gonna take points away from gervin for being born in the 50s-60s.
5 Manu Ginobili - 2 All Star Apperance in 16 years.

Re: With Tony's departure and Manu's potential retirement, its now time to rank them.
We need to be sure if Manu continues and if so, how he does the team without Kawhi.
Also it's not good for neither Tony and Manu that his last season was marked by a player that quit on his own team.
Both deserved one more year.

1. TD - Carried scrubs per par.
2. DRob - Tried to carry scrubs.
3. TP - Outplayed scrubs per par.
4. Gervin - Outscrubbed scrubs.
5. Manu - Outplayed bench scrubs per par.

There really is not legit argument for Manu over TP in terms of overall contribution.

Gervin was before my time but judging by his accomplishments I rank him the third greatest Spurs of all time. Gervin had multiple scoring titles, made all-nba first team several times, and lead the Spurs to a few conference finals.

I have Tony over Manu as a Spur, but a case can definitely be made for Manu. Specially now that Manu will play his entire career for the Spurs, and Tony won't.

Re: With Tony's departure and Manu's potential retirement, its now time to rank them.
I always use rankings by peak value and career value as developed by Bill James. Peak value is your highest level of sustained value, basically your top 3-4 seasons. It doesn't mean a hot streak from one week in January. Career value is the cumulative value of the whole career, including successes in the regular season and playoffs, and awards and leaderboards.
Peak value Spurs
1. Duncan
2. Robinson
3. Leonard
4. Ginobili
5.Gervin
6.Parker
Career value
1. Duncan
2. Robinson
3. Parker
4. Gervin
5. Ginobili
6. Eliott

I've got Parker and Strickland very close to each other.
Strickland was a better shooter and a much patter passer.
But Parker could get to the rim a little better.
But I gotta give the edge to the guy with the rings.

On a side note I've watched a long interview of TP on a french radio podcast before he signed for Charlotte.
It was a very straight forward interview as always with TP and he repeated that his dream was to retire as a Spur and achieved the 20 years career with the Spurs. He was feeling good and wanted to pass the torch to Murray.
I'm sure he was heart broken to not have been able to find an agreement with Spurs... watching this vid after his signing with Charlotte is kinda sad...

I found the interview on youtube, it is dated back in May... it is in French
He speaks about his relation with Pop, he speaks about Curry (the best nba shooter ever according to him), he speaks about Tim and how special he is, he speaks how it was natural for him to let the starting job to Murray, he also speaks a couple of minutes about kobe..

Not talking about apa, since the nigga is trolling, but I honestly don't see how anyone can think Parker was a better player than Manu. It's obvious Manu made a bigger impact and I'm not just saying that because he is a fellow Mexican. If you had to pick a player that exemplified all-star selections and PPG not always telling the whole picture--Manu would be that player. Prime Manu was a special player. Prime Parker was really really good but I don't think he was in that same class.

Pretty much nails it. Manu was better per minute but Parker was more durable, so these numbers being really close doesn't surprise me at all.

yep, i think the only question is how much of Manu's lesser minutes was because of durability, vs because pop preferred to let manu quarterback the 2nd unit / get the most out of the turkoglu/finley/barry/green types... after all manu performed better as a starter, played big minutes outside of the spurs system, and tony likewise performed worse as a sub..
bottom line though, its not difficult to say who was better even if only slightly, 2005-2011 manu was the spurs closer, hell even in 14 - 18 manu was the closer for playoff games, the only year tony really had that responsibility was 2012, 2013.. tony not developing a 3pt shot lowered his ceiling

Re: With Tony's departure and Manu's potential retirement, its now time to rank them.
Manu is more effective at 41 than tony at age 35. Ginobili was an underrated defender. You cant say the same about porker.
Manu probably has sacrificied more for the spurs than any other professional athlete. He never cared about his numbers. He cared about winning. Its hard for me to consider that a negative when comparing the two.
Im not saying tony is selfish, but he clearly has never been as selfless as manu.
Manu is the better player imo. The opinion of an unemployed troll will never sway my thought process
