Aldridge is more of a C but he can play PF in a lot of line ups. Gasol and Aldridge are just a terrible combination. Poelt'l and Aldridge are not a bad combination at all.
Because despite the lack of leverage, they gave up a top 5 player and handed the Raptors a virtually ideal modern team (while further turning themselves into the antithesis), yet somehow also managed to lose all 3 of what should have been sticking points (Anunoby, Green instead of Mills, protected pick).
"A lot of line ups" is overstating it. Gasol is a better fit offensively, because he can shoot and he's a superior high post passer.

There is no denying that the Spurs lost the trade.
IMO, that was bound to happen. It's not the Spurs fault that Kawhi fucked over any leverage they had.
Poetl will be huge indicator of how well they were able to mitigate an inevitable loss.

Re: Will this Jacob guy be the new Boban?
Splitter is massively underrated on this board. He set top notch screens, excelled on the PnR, excellent rim protector, superior passer, and was crafty around the basket. Losing him to health issues was a huge blow for the team.
Re: Will this Jacob guy be the new Boban?
It would be great if this kid could develop the position skills, BBIQ & guts (I almost jinxed him by saying H****) of Fabricio Oberto, but keep his athleticism.

Absolutely true, Splitter was great and his demise prevented any hope of a repeat.
I don't see this guy being another Splitter.
Splitter was an MVP-type player in Europe.
If this guy is anything close to Splitter, that would be a huge win.
I don't see it yet, but he does seem to have some upside . . .

Of course losing the trade was inevitable. He's a top 5 player, who'd negatively impacted his value about as much as someone of that magnitude possibly could.
It wasn't about that. They just needed to win 1 of the 3 sticking points, specifically Green instead of Mills (fit and flexibility). Anunoby, I understand. Not only are 3 and D wings gold (to everyone but the Spurs, apparently), but he's their best prospect and no team involved was willing to give that up.

This all day. He was great when healthy and his passing skills mixed in with the Beautiful Game so well.

Yeah, if there was one real back-breaker, it was giving up Green.
Yes, he didn't have the greatest season last year and isn't without some warts but...he was still an asset. Solid, starting caliber player on a decent contract.
The fact that we had to give up MORE to trade a potential MVP caliber player was completely unexpected. We were expecting to get a contract dump out of the deal, and instead we gave up a rotational player. That sucked.

Spurs brass values Mills much more than Green. Green has been terrible. Mills is the new culture guy probably will not be traded until his deal is an expiring or unless he has a preferred destination like Sixers.
It is arguable that Spurs needed a big man versus a 3 and D wing SF anyway. Gasol is nearly unplayable and Aldridge isn't getting any younger either. This pick is protected anyway because Raptors will not fall below 20, 90% chance.
Is it a given Siakam or Anunoby will be better players than Poeltl? I don't think so.
Anyway, I do understand what you're saying though. These are just my counters and the fact Raptors had a ton of leverage. If Kawhi leaves (>80% chance imo) we easily won this trade.

This. Green has been horrible for years and has been rightly maligned on this board. His defensive production has been going down and his shot has been gone for years but now that he gets traded he's suddenly beloved and a key piece :lol
Re: Will this Jacob guy be the new Boban?
The new Boban, a monkey clown oaf sitting at the end of the bench getting garbage minutes and providing a nutsack for stupid ass homer Spurs fans to suckle?
Yes.
