Nobody who knows the Reacher books would agree with that. As you know having read all the books, the size of Reacher is a big part of the books.
Remember the Reacher novel where he tears a door right off it's hinges? Ethan Hawke?

Have you seen him lately? He bulked up..

he's already taller than Cruise, and was great in Training Day...
Which movie did you like more though? 1 or 2? I liked 2 the best, IMO... neither close to the books, but entertaining...
Lee Child said Cruise was 100% Reacher with 90% of the height, and Hawke is 3 inches taller than Cruise... that's 100%, 100%...
Avante shitting himself.
Work with me people
The Reacher books have been around since 1997. So some 10ish years later here comes a big $$$$$$ deal. Now how many actually know what a Jack Reacher even is? So in order to sell the movie and make some $$$$$$$$$....enter Tom Cruise. Now it's no longer really about the...who is Jack Reacher?
This really needs to be explained? Where is the common sense?
Well the Reacher fans got pissed, a midget playing their hero, a guy who can choke out a 600pound gorilla......a midget?
Makes it even more awesome tbh.
I wasn't thrilled with Cruise, tbh, but Ethan Hawke... you could talk me into it...
Why use a little guy when that is not Jack Reacher at all?
Dave Bautista would be the closest.
Lee Child views Jack Reacher as a "happy-go-lucky guy. He has quirks and problems, but the thing is, he doesn't know he's got them. Hence, no tedious self-pity. He's smart and strong, an introvert, but any anguish he suffers is caused by others."[2] When asked about the casting of Tom Cruise in the role of Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise's casting as Jack Reacher was met with severe criticism from fans of the book series, primarily because the disparity in their heights with Reacher portrayed as a blond, 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) tall, 250-pound man in the novels, while Cruise is a 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) tall brunet[9][10]), Child replied that "Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force".[11]
Sounds really fucking boring when you talk about it, Avante.
You could also pick Fabio, it would be an instant B movie, and still wouldn't represent the Jack Reacher in the books. Very debatable, IMO.
The book has to put some numbers so people get a massiveness that you don't need on-screen, tbh...
So why even bother with the books at all? Nobody needs Jack Reacher. BUT.....if you do decide to bring the book to the big screen then ya do alll you can to stay true to the story.
Imagine Tom Cruise playing the part of boxer/rassler Primo Carnera....ha!

Because the books need to be more graphically depicting, where a movie does not. Almost 80% of the time you're gonna hear the book was better than the movie, even when the movie was great on it's own.
They're completely different formats. Movies need to be shorter, but convey the same message.
For example, I also love the Ludlum's Bourne series, read all the books and even the ones written after his death, but I also agree that the movies are great, even though not as good as the books.
Blake, don't you ever tire of being a total asshole?
Do you ever tire of posting a male fictional character's measurements?
