Announcement should be made later
:wow
Nooooooooo
Least we’ll get to see Walker and white This year
I can't handle this.
Sauces?
You know I can't say who my sources are
Manu retiring is probably the saddest news in all of Spurs history.
Darn it. I did not want him to retire. I wanted him to still be on the team and play. He didn't have to play big minutes, though. I really think he could have helped these young guys out.
worst news of the offseason tbh
We always have youtube with many vids of Manu's greatness.
so no farewell tour
We'll have to wait until #20 is hoisted.
This is the saddest news since '16 election night. It's that piece of shit Kawhi's fault for being a home wrecker..:cry
If so, I imagine he'll still be around the team this year a la Tim Duncan. We all know the wheels would fall off sooner or later on Manu, but a player as unique as him, you just enjoy those moments every few games where he does something that no one else does. Not going to lie, some of the excitement about this year is going to diminish. Also, I think we are going to see Spurs lose a couple of games they would've won this year with an experienced closer that knows how to run an offense with the game on the line.
Hmmmm, Parker, Leonard and now Manu . . .
We've falsely claimed "the end of an era" so many times it rings hollow.
But this really is.
It's official per Shams :(
goodbye to all our Argie friends ElNono you'll be missed fam
Fuck this fucking off season.
Damn. It’s real. He just announced it via Instagram.
Shams just tweeted it
What a shitty offseason :cry
fuck
When I got the news I didn't want to accept it, but it had to happen.
Thank fuck..
i have to think about changing my avatar for the first time since joining
Sad day.
Should see his roster spot be filled pretty soon then. We're really close to camp for SA to only have, what, 14/20 spots filled.
Thanks for everything, Manu. Enjoy your retirement.
OP dropping nukes. :wow
This is just crazy . . .
Would anyone be that surprised, at this point, if Pop suddenly announced that he's retiring?
End of a era
Man, this sucks.
"Today, with a wide range of feelings, I'm announcing my retirement from basketball. IMMENSE GRATITUDE to everyone (family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans) involved in my life in the last 23 years. It's been a fabulous journey. Way beyond my wildest dreams."
Thanks Manu!!
really really really sad
Third best Spurs all time!!
:(
that sucks
Holy shit...can’t believe it’s actually happening.
Manu, Tony, Kawhi, and Danny all gone in a matter of 2 months....
2014 suddenly seems like a lifetime ago.
Damn... I’m sad
Also, I don't believe PATFO was surprised by this news. I said last year that Manu was a lock to retire this summer based on his contract. Even if it turned out to be more of a coin-flip than that, there's no way anyone should have been caught unaware here. Manu didn't sign a contract suggesting he was going to stay, so not retaining Tony and keeping Forbes and Bertans over Anderson were all done with Manu's retirement in mind already. I even think they were done with Green's trade in mind. If anyone thinks the guard situation is suddenly dire, it's not. Or at least, it's where PATFO expected it to be.
Hopefully, they don't sign Crawford, but I fully expect them to pursue a steady PG to keep White honest and to provide ball-handling depth. There are candidates out there, including relative scrubs from Austin like Hanlan or Ledbetter. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both of those in camp and one get a two-way. I still expect them to look to an older guy with NBA or at least Euroleague experience, though.
murray and white need to be really, really good.
Yes!!
:cry
It was expected, but what a shitty off season! The end of an era.
Thanks Manu for all the testicular fortitude you gave the Spurs over the years over countless basketball battles. You were the ultimate winner and team player in a Hall of Fame basketball career and you will be sorely missed!
I see a dark future for Spurs fans for many years to come. The majority of the Spurs' fans were completely spoiled by having players of the caliber of Robinson, Duncan and Manu. Be ready for a rude awakening now that Manu is gone.
ugh! end of an era.

Derrick White needed the minutes tbh. I would have loved to see Manu come back another year but White needs the minutes and he was the likely candidate to get buried if Manu had stayed due to Pop's BS love affair with Forbes.
It's definitely the silver lining to this shit show offseason
I remember when the Spurs announced that Manu was coming over from Italy and watching grainy highlights of him dunking on dudes, blocking dudes way taller than him and watching this skinny 6'6" dude play with such a style that I had never seen before. I was an instant fan despite knowing that those videos were hyping Manu up. The dude lived up to the hype and much more. Who the hell knew that 16 years later he was going to be a first ballet HOFer and an NBA/Spurs legend.
I still remember the press conference and Manu holding up Avery Johnson's #6 jersey and there being a stink about it. :lol
The offseason keeps getting better! ElNono
The greatest ever run is over. Thanks Manu. Most passionate, entertaining Spur ever.
It's like I've been saying since 2015. The Spurs seem into deferred compensation nowadays. I'm glad they're not stretching this needlessly (in fact, they'll be done with Tim this year as well), but $2.5 Million this summer is not negligible considering their proximity to the tax. They have enough room to fill their roster, and that's it.
Also :lol at folks thinking Manu was going to turn down that money because "he's not the kind of guy who's willing to be paid when he's not playing". This was the plan from jump-street, just as it was when Manu signed the one-and-one rMLE deal the year they got LMA.
End of an era tbh
that sucks tbh.. Tony and now Manu
:depressed
Damn, Spurs are going to suck! Worst news ever!
this is depressing
i love you manu. Spur legend
Jamal Crawford agrees to join San Antonio in 3, 2, 1...
after the Kiwi mess and once Tony left, I highly doubted he would be back. Why would he? He isn't that tight with LMA don't know if he even really knows Derozen. I feel if Tony were still here fighting the good fight Manu would be too but now it just feels like a whole new era for real.
The Big Three era is officially over.
Manu poured his heart into the game for the Spurs and deserves his retirement.
But man, this still sucks.
Truly an end to an era.
I mean, yeah, a team can be as underhanded as the CBA allows, but if the expectation is that Manu would get to keep his money, I don't see why that wouldn't be honored in the trade. It's not like the Spurs Org can't find ways to give Manu money. There should be no issue with circumvention of the cap either, because the Spurs always had the right to just not give Manu the money in the first place.
You're not wrong though that it's possible.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Kind of saw this coming due to TP leaving, but was hoping that signing Marco might have convinced Manu to stay one more year.
One of most fierce competitors to ever walk out onto the hardwood. Privileged to have been a witness to his game play and professionalism. As a total package, there has been none better imo.
Glad Manu got to call his own shot, instead of his body being broken down.
Congrats Manu.
Thank you for the memories.
Damn this sucks, but happy for him. He's going to have an amazing post NBA life. I'm curious to see what NBA players might pay tribute to him on their Insta's/Twitters etc.
Would be cool to see words from guys like LBJ and Kobe who had several battles with him.
FUCK ALL THIS SHIT
Sadest off-season ever.
DeRozan trying to make Spurs fan forget about Manu, TP and Autist... Yeah right... They should have gone for a rebuild, it's just too sad to be this much of a treadmill team.
Wow a Spurs legend gone. And now Manu retiring too?
Who is that? Patty Mills is the last one left and could be expendable if the young guards emerge or he struggles.
No, he isn't. Why do Spurs fans find the need to be divisive?
Bittersweet end to his amazing basketball journey. Great because he lasted so long even with his helter skelter style, but sad because he was last dog left of the best era in franchise history.
You'll be missed forever, Manu Ginobili. Thanks for the great moments and incredible plays....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:bang
Sad to see this news, was hoping to see his genius one more year.
Damn.
This is truly a thing that is on a whole other level of sad
wow Lamarcus with a really nice send off :(
There's nothing wrong with Manu collecting his money, especially since him doing so was obviously the plan all along. I was talking about folks believing the two-year deal was proof Manu intended to play this year because they assumed he'd find taking the money dishonorable.
Manu Ginobili was the most exciting, clutch player to ever suit up for the Spurs. He was a WINNER. Just a very bittersweet day. He deserves all the accolades he will no doubt receive.
Probably sick of losing to the Warriors every year at this point. One of the greatest Spurs ever! you will be missed Manu.
I'm sure he the Spurs pretty low chances of winning the championship had something to do with Manu's decision to retire.
Does anyone have that pic of him diving for the ball in fromt of the bench while Mills goes crazy? I think someone has it as their sig, or used to.
:cry
