Truly an end to an era.
I mean, yeah, a team can be as underhanded as the CBA allows, but if the expectation is that Manu would get to keep his money, I don't see why that wouldn't be honored in the trade. It's not like the Spurs Org can't find ways to give Manu money. There should be no issue with circumvention of the cap either, because the Spurs always had the right to just not give Manu the money in the first place.
You're not wrong though that it's possible.

Kind of saw this coming due to TP leaving, but was hoping that signing Marco might have convinced Manu to stay one more year.
One of most fierce competitors to ever walk out onto the hardwood. Privileged to have been a witness to his game play and professionalism. As a total package, there has been none better imo.
Glad Manu got to call his own shot, instead of his body being broken down.
Congrats Manu.
Thank you for the memories.
Damn this sucks, but happy for him. He's going to have an amazing post NBA life. I'm curious to see what NBA players might pay tribute to him on their Insta's/Twitters etc.
Would be cool to see words from guys like LBJ and Kobe who had several battles with him.
FUCK ALL THIS SHIT
Sadest off-season ever.
DeRozan trying to make Spurs fan forget about Manu, TP and Autist... Yeah right... They should have gone for a rebuild, it's just too sad to be this much of a treadmill team.
Wow a Spurs legend gone. And now Manu retiring too?
Who is that? Patty Mills is the last one left and could be expendable if the young guards emerge or he struggles.
No, he isn't. Why do Spurs fans find the need to be divisive?
Bittersweet end to his amazing basketball journey. Great because he lasted so long even with his helter skelter style, but sad because he was last dog left of the best era in franchise history.
You'll be missed forever, Manu Ginobili. Thanks for the great moments and incredible plays....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:bang
Sad to see this news, was hoping to see his genius one more year.
Damn.
This is truly a thing that is on a whole other level of sad
wow Lamarcus with a really nice send off :(
There's nothing wrong with Manu collecting his money, especially since him doing so was obviously the plan all along. I was talking about folks believing the two-year deal was proof Manu intended to play this year because they assumed he'd find taking the money dishonorable.
Manu Ginobili was the most exciting, clutch player to ever suit up for the Spurs. He was a WINNER. Just a very bittersweet day. He deserves all the accolades he will no doubt receive.
Probably sick of losing to the Warriors every year at this point. One of the greatest Spurs ever! you will be missed Manu.
I'm sure he the Spurs pretty low chances of winning the championship had something to do with Manu's decision to retire.
Does anyone have that pic of him diving for the ball in fromt of the bench while Mills goes crazy? I think someone has it as their sig, or used to.
