Funny to think that had Duncan not been drafted, Robinson probably would've retired without a ring and then naysayers would've use this as evidence against him. Kinda shows how arbitrary counting rings can be.
That’s who made me a Spurs fan. I started a “Bulls fan” like most kids in the Jordan era. Then I started getting bored and really loved DRob. Loved his game, loved his off court/on court conduct. Then of course TD came along and stole the show. But I stood by my sentiment of Rob being my favorite Spur all-time until Tim’s continued greatness forced my hand and I changed my narrative around 06-07ish. Much love to the Admiral!!
I saw him last Thursday... he came to Corpus to speak at the Ronald McDonald Casa de Amor Charity fundraiser gala event...
His anecdotal stories were awesome. Still a very commanding presence anywhere he goes.
As an aside he talked about Tim, Tony, Manu, Pop, Bruce, Sean and Avery so frequently that you can tell how much they all get along. They genuinely love and care for each other. He feels great about the upcoming season, he likes what DeMar DeRozan will be able to do under Pop's leadership, he loved LaMarcus's transformational season last year.
Anyways all that to say that there was no mention whatsoever of Kawhi. No endearing statement. Zip, nada, zilch... what a shame (of what could have been).
Edit: Also mentioned Antonio Daniels and Malik Rose.
He was soo fast. He looks like a fast guard with long strides, but is also 7' and hitting the weights all the time. Amazing athlete and still seems like a great guy.

He would be an absolute stud in today's NBA.

It's no wonder that when Magic started drafting players for the 1992 Dream Team his 3rd call after Jordan and Bird was David.
One of the few Superstars to have played against MJ in his prime and not have a losing record.
Class act during and after his career which has only enhanced his reputation as a great basketball player. You don't get the opportunity to draft players like DRob and Timmy but once in a generation.

It just goes to show how talented and GREAT DRob was. He had all these What if's in his career and he still is top 20 all time. Fastest big man I've ever seen and quickest jump for a big man I've ever seen too. His second jump might be the greatest of all time.

Before Duncan, the best team David had around him was probably his rookie season. He carried scrubs to 60+ wins. If you're looking at sheer speed and physical ability there probably wasn't a better center ever to play the game.

He is, but his regular season advanced stats are somewhat inflated by his unique career timeline. He didn't enter the league until he was 24 and exited when he was 37, so he mostly avoided pre and post prime seasons. When you hear shit repeated by young people that they've heard others say like, "Robinson was soft", that pisses me off. Robinson was the truth on all levels. His teammates weren't that good and thats what people ignore. They like to point to the 95 Rockets series, but Robinson didn't get shut down. It's just that Hakeem was playing out of his mind and no one that entire playoffs stopped him.

Also, when he retired, I know his body wasn't in great shape, but didn't he say something about that he decided to retire after that season and wouldn't go back on his word? I really do feel he could have played one more season, and I would have loved it if he did.
He messed it up when Karl Malone knocked him out in the Delta Center. He twisted it as he fell to the floor unconscious and landed on it. He was never the same after that. I still remember it to this day and being so mad because somehow the foul was on Robinson. Like the ref had the audacity to call a foul on a man who had just been knocked out. i also remember the admiral for his elite shot blocking... how many triple doubles can one get with blocks being one of them? both him and hakeem were competing with each other every season for the top shot blocker spot. those were the days where i actually give a damn who's the league leader in the a particular stat. these days not so much...
