Before inevitably glossing over most of the reasoning and complaining about bias and underrating certain volume perimeter scorers, keep in mind these are projections for the coming season, so suspected age related improvement/decline is factored in, as well as recent injury history, among other things.
Spurs rankings . . .
Gasol: 98
Murray: 89
DeRozan: 30
Aldridge: 21
DeRozan and Aldridge are right in line with where I had them, as top 30ish and 20ish players . . .

Only issue I see (amongst Spurs) is Pau over Gay. Gay had a limited role last season and was recovering from a career altering injury, yet I still think he has more talent and ability left in the tank than Pau (obviously).
Either Gay goes above pay or neither player should be on the list. Pau has nice advanced stats, but the eye test tells one that he's rapidly on the decline (wouldn't be surprised if Poetl takes his job mid season).
:rolleyes:rolleyes putting Draymond Green or Al Horford above LaMarcus Aldridge. If either guy was forced to carry a team alone it would be lottery bound not in the playoffs like SA last season.
Both are great pieces to championship or contending teams, but neither is top 20 or capable of carrying a team.
Also, I've always thought CBS' pre season NBA player list was the best and most thought out. While, SLAM magazine has the least thought out and informed list, IMO.
Re: SI 18-19 Top 100 players
Aldridge is underrated, but then again this list is supposed to be a prediction for this season and I'm sure he won't have the same stats as last year

It makes no sense for Ibaka to be 78th and Wiggins 74th, but Gay to not even make biggest snubs.
Green and Horford over Aldridge is one of those ones that partially goes to what you value in the game, but also context. They couldn't do what he does and vice versa, but the argument for them is their skillsets are rarer.
Middleton over DeRozan is similar, but I actually think that one is more unfounded. Middleton isn't quite the 3 and D wing he's portrayed as and he's a less dynamic creator.
I don't know about CBS, but SI sure as hell beats ESPN.

Disagree. If LA played a role like Horford ,Green or as soft as KAT most fans would complain he playing timid, not giving 100 percent & unhappy with his role. When you're the number one option on your team context shouldn't come into the equation when doing these lists. They have to take on a lot more responsibility.

Love the fact that SI kinda rips on him...
"To make matters worse, he behaved in reprehensible fashion for a max-level franchise player throughout his injury absence, drawing soft rebukes and subliminal digs from his legendary coach and teammates.
Regardless of what happened behind closed doors or on the training table, Leonard is solely responsible for months of poor communication, for his ill-fated “Spur for life” press conference, and for the distracting “Uncle Dennis” chatter. He’s solely responsible for leaving his teammates up in the air about his availability in the run-up to the playoffs and for staying away from the Spurs during the postseason. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Anthony Davis would never behave like Leonard did because they understand and accept that being an A-list superstar requires comporting oneself like a chief executive."

He was expected to be MVP last season if he continued his trajectory of two seasons ago... but he sat out a whole season, played 15 minutes stints with more than a couple night rests in between games, proceeded to complain of pain and truly you have to conjecture to predict what kind of a season he will have.
He could be MVP next season or fall off 100 altogether if he gets reinjured and continues a downslope fall. A safe guess is that he will be somewhere near where he's ranked, not quite the MVP, but hopefully healthy enough to rank among the very best on a good night. Will he be able to stay healthy, play B2B, etc. No one knows.
