That would have been the best tack for him to take. Sure, attacking Democrats might work, but it's hard to do that without indirectly attacking someone who MOST of America sees as a very credible victim of violence.

I think he handled this so poorly that it's actually incredibly surreal. It's often indicative of guilt to be so aggressively angry and defensive at the same time.

Kavanaugh has clearly, openly lied, as many of his statements are in direct contradiction with each other.

I disagree on tone. If you are accused of attempted rape and other sex crimes, you come angry and defensive. I thought his opening struck the right tone of righteous indignation. I think some of his responses to the questioning have had the wrong tone. I get that he is angry, but being belligerent does make it look like you are avoiding answering the questions.

Of course, I think he is probably doing enough to get to a vote and I think that vote will be quick and painful for some red state Democrats and some blue state Republicans. Hard to see if he gets confirmed at this point, but I do think he's gone in with nothing to lose and is assuming he'll lose at confirmation.
