Well, to be fair, it was more than fan conjecture. Tony said that himself.
And as much tension as there likely is between them, Brent and Tony never let it come out in public. And I doubt Brent would let it get in the way of honoring one of the all-time greats when that time comes. Brent is a big boy.

Last time I heard Brent speak about the Spurs he specifically had very positive things to say about the "Big Three" and mentioned Tony by name. This year btw. So all that Eva drama didn't seem to mean much to him.

Good move by Spurs but what happens to his job as a television analyst? I always enjoyed his insight on the game like when Steve Kerr was a tv analyst with TNT. Barry has the basketball mind to take over for Pop no doubt.

Great move! Barry's energy and enthusiasm will translate well with this new generation of players.

Yea, he went thru a period where he wouldn't say his name, then he started saying "TP", then he started saying his name eventually, little by little.

Always liked the dude. My son attended one of his shooting camps. Unlike most NBA stars, he actually stayed the whole time and worked with each kid one on one. I think it was a couple days long and relatively cheap.

This has the potential to be a coup. Similar to Kerr, his basketball IQ shone through as a broadcaster (he also had it in spades as a player, but they're not always one and the same). He's the type who came off as likely to be successful whether in the front office or in coaching.

Agree. That was the Spurs best chance at a threepeat...then The Foul happened. We still would have had to get past a loaded Minny team with Prime KG, Cassell, and Spree...but after that Dallas series, I think we would've gone all the way.
Still...can't be too upset with 5 over 15.

love it- should begin to end the semi-stagnation we are facing w/ the void nephew left. great basketball mind and will influence strategy/remake of the franchise beyond this transition period very well

No Phoenix was in the WCF that year. The Mavs had to beat Phoenix with Nash to get to the NBA finals. That was Phoenix's best chance to ring and they blew it but I think Nash got injured.
