Always interesting to watch a Silver & Black brawl. Will be interesting to see how Pop splits up the squads.
Hopefully the Spurs and Facebook step up their game on the broadcast. I've had issues the past couple years such as no score being available, no audio, etc...

I'm probably gonna get shit on for this, but Facebook is what you make of it.
If you know and/or follow toxic people, your Facebook is probably going to be toxic.
The people I know who have quit Facebook "because of the drama" also happen to be some of the most dramatic people I know.
-
Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
from what i've heard, we should get a chance to see walker in action.

I enjoyed fb for a while. Then it just wound up being drama. Dumb shit really. Flirting with pretty ladies on fb. Got me in trouble. Then i had a few stalker friends that were females and just liked everything i said and openly flirted with me. Lady hated it. I am very opinionated and many of my comments would stir up shit. Being liberal in the deep south is really going against the grain. And all the bullshit and propaganda that was steadily increasing in 2015 made it suck as well.
And then some girl came out of left field and tried to say her 7 year old child was mine on fb was the straw that broke the camels back. I called her out, let everyone know its biologically impossible to get pregnant from a blow job. I also reminded her that she actually threw up while in the act and that ended that whole rendezvous and it grossed me out so bad i never physically touched that girl ever again. In fact, i was an asshole about it for at least 6 months.

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Demar still not looking comfortable out there. Rudy looking healthy. White's handles are again very shaky. Okaro White looks solid. Bryn is a practice monster which explains why he gets the minutes in real games. Dejounte is better but still developing his game. Lonnie Walker looks pretty good. His lack of perimeter moves could still suit this team this year because he appears to have good fundamentals that will allow him to get his shots off in this system.

Appreciate the review. I attempted to watch it but it was lagging pretty bad on my end and the camera was poor... my image was fuzzy/hazy. Anyways, point is appreciate it.
I miss not having watched Lonnie but hopefuly he gets to play next preseason game, bc if he played in the scrimmage he's healthy. :tu

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Rudy looking great, Aldridge is still gonna get his buckets, Demar is slowly getting more comfortable but he was knocking down some shots from his sweet spots, Derrick White didn’t do much to stand out but I think he’ll be fine, Murray looking much more comfortable with his pull up mid range shot, Bryn knocking down threes but didn’t really take it to the hole much, Eubanks with great positioning around the basket for easy buckets, I saw Blossomgame knock down some mid range shots and he looks really active around the rim, Metu didn’t see too much out of him, didnt really look like he was trying to score though, Cunningham looked intriguing since he was knocking down some threes and looked comfortable doing so. Pondexter didn’t do much to standout, Patty had a couple points on drives, Marco scored some buckets too and you can tell he’s trying to be more of a playmaker. Lonnie has great potential, he knows how to create space for himself and he threw down a nice tomahawk jam.
I wouldn’t put too much thought in this one, it’s just preseason and the effort and intensity wasn’t really there overall.

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
I went to scrimmage, quick notables.
-a lot of love for Lonnie and DDR. DDR even got a small MVP chant while at the line lol but it shows the love which is nice.
-Pau struggled and was schooled by Lamarcus.
-Lamarcus looks to be in midseason form, I expect him to make all star again this year.
-Dejounte looked to run quite a few times and he had a nice burst of speed but struggled to finish when he attempted a layup, needs to work on finishing those.
-DDR has great handles and looks silky smooth weaving through traffic. He hesitated to shoot a few times and Is looking to pass more than to shoot at the moment which is understandable but i hope he looks for his shot more.
-Walker showed off for the crowd during layup drills
-Pop just sat behind the players bench and let the assistants coach. He did sit next to Murray at the end of the game with Murray having his arm around Pop. I feel that Murray really wants to be the leader of this team.
I had never been to a scrimmage before but really wanted to go this year. I got a chance to sit 4 rows from the court, closest I've ever been. It was a nice experience. I'd recommend for those who dont ever get a chance to get close seats. It's free with free parking. Will probably go again next year.

That is the main reason to go, I always tell people the exact same thing.
**As the players exited through the tunnel I believe it was Dejounte who threw one of his shoes into the stands.
***Still early I know but I hate when a player has a smooth jumper like LWIV yet has very inconsistent shooting %. Bertans is similar, hoping he can break away from that stigma this season.

I think he has the same issue as Simmons. Worried about getting pulled by Pop in a game for missing shots or screwing up. He's already doing that so he should just play his game.

Gay seems like the player he was in Memphis. I am really surprised how much more athletic and healthy he seems, and his confidence is clearly through the roof.
-
Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Lonnie is already better than Number 2 at 19, offensively that is.
Give this kid a couple of years and he'd be a difference - maker.

I think its a combination of games being more intense than practice, Bryn trying to hard to live up to those expectations and not letting the game come to him.
-
Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
It was good to see several line-ups, different structures and some combinations working well.
The Mills-Marco-Gay-Gasol core looks very good in offense: showing a lot of men and ball movement, taking advantage of great spacing with good passing. White didn't play very well but could be a good fit to complete this second unit, whilst inserting Cunningham would improve the defense and general toughness of this group. Forbes would complete a full attack mode unit and Poetl would make sense as well, in order to add rim protection, rebound, and physicality.
Another clear conclusion after watching the practice is that any pure shooter next to Aldridge, DeRozan, and Murray will get a good number of open shots. Forbes in the first quarter and Bertans more regularly took and hit a good number of threes. Forbes can't play any defense even against bench NBA players so I don't consider starting him a real option (despite Pop could decide to do it). To me, Bertans should start at SF or PF, regardlessly. I don't see Popovich renouncing to play two bigs so Gasol/Poetl could start, play a few minutes and be substituted by Rudy Gay (on a 6th man but true starter role). Patty could replace Bertans and so on and so on.
Lonnie Walker looks promising every time we watch him play. It's a shame he's too raw yet so the best scenario for him is to play 30min/game in Austin. The kid can create his own shot in all kind of 1on1 situations. White can make pays and shoot, Murray can rebound, play good defense and has a character, but Walker is clearly more talented than both.
DeRozan is still vulnerable in individual defense but I've noticed he's working hard on team defense. He's focused when he's away off the ball, trying to have a good positioning and helping/rotating as needed. He just lacks a little of pride in 1on1 action, hopefully that will come as he gains confidence and he fells more comfortable into the group.
The scrimmage was really interesting, we watched a lot of things from our players. I have one question for the ones who were at the AT&T: Was Ginobili around the Black Team bench?

I just think our perception of Forbes isn’t the same Pop has and he’s very likely to get a lot of opportunities until it becomes absolutely clear he’s not an NBA player, or the opposite: that he is. I don’t think he’s considered a failed experiment or he wouldn’t have gotten a 2 year deal.
-
Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Walker looked very good. He only had one shot that didn’t look good. Everything else was on target. Good enough handles and solid defense given it’s so early. Hard to see how he doesn’t get time with the Spurs.
Don’t understand the hate for White. He had a couple of turnovers but otherwise played a pretty solid game imo.
-
Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Biggest surprise - How well Forbes played.
Biggest disappointment - How bad White played.
Of note is Walker has a tendency of playing better when playing with better players. He will get some minutes at the NBA level particularly if White continues to play so badly.

It may just be because it's preseason and the games don't matter so he feels like he has a green light...or it could be that the coaches are grooming him to be our Manu Lite and be a bench gunner. Time will tell...

Small sample sizes, in specific pairings. Very bad when paired up with Mills and Tony since he's then a wing matched up with bigger guys. Remember Rodney Hood lighting him up? That's more significant than garbage time but you can't separate the two.
Context. Numbers are pretty to look at but context and matchups matter. New eason, less defensive players next to him matters. I will have to be convinced this season.

Yeah, I will be, too. I was just amazed at the pairings numbers for Forbes, and I'm just kind of being devil's advocate with you. I doubt he will ever become a plus performer, but I will keep my fingers crossed. Pop sees more of him than anybody; he must see something in him... ?

He's a special shooter in practice. Needs to be that good every night to get steady minutes.
The team needs shooting bc their main players don't shoot the 3 in sufficient volume. So he's going to get plenty of opportunities. I think it's possible that the impact you see is a reflection of context. He had a positive impact bc the starters were so starved for spacing and shooting that a somewhat good shooter will bump their offense a lot, more than his individual skills absent context would warrant otherwise.
Considering the SL is still starved for shooters he might still be a positive pairing with some guys. I don't know if you grasp what I mean. If no one can shoot well enough on a particular game in the starting lineup, he may come in hit a couple of 3s and impact positively immediately without him doing much of anything else great. But pair him with undersized guards and what he does offensively isn't going to be enough.
Not sure his impact on the bench is the same since they have a lot of shooters already and poor creators and several small guards.
I am now expecting Dex to change his avatar bc it wouldn't surprise to see Forbes start a few games.

This goes beyond reputation. He's been a negative player for the Raptors in every year of his career except 2010-11. No point going back that far but here's his last three seasons.
on/off #'s
2015-16
RS: -6.1 PS: -4.8
2016-17
RS: -4.7 PS: -13.0
2017-18
RS: -2.7 PS: -18.1

Bryn's first year was 2016-2017. He was in school in 2015. I imagine you're talking about DeRozan, but that's off-topic as shit.

As I've said, Bryn's analytics are actually great. Guys apparently don't score well on him when they actually shoot. Dunno if that's the result of help that leads to others having bad numbers. The pairings don't suggest that. Some of his team metrics do, though.

I just want Walker to play. I don't give a crap about him spending time in Austin. I know he's not as polished as Donovan Mitchell was as a rookie, but if multiple people are touting Lonnie to be the next Donovan Mitchell, I want to see him playing now. Give him some real chances throughout the season and see how he goes. If he doesn't do well and shows he's not ready, then maybe send him to Austin later in the year.
Oh, and I forgot the main reason I want him to play - I believe he has a lot more defensive potential than almost all of the other wings in the team. With his size, strength and athleticism, he has a chance to be a really good defender, so that is the main reason I'd like to see him getting court time. I want to see if he can start out focusing on defense and go from there. This team badly needs perimeter defense on the wing.
I really do wonder, if Donovan was on the Spurs last season, would he have played and become the player he did for Utah in SA, or would Pop have not played him much at all?
