His lack of perimeter moves could still suit this team this year because he appears to have good fundamentals. Will be able to get his shots off in this system off set all these set plays and picks.
Appreciate the review. I attempted to watch it but it was lagging pretty bad on my end and the camera was poor... my image was fuzzy/hazy. Anyways, point is appreciate it.
I miss not having watched Lonnie but hopefuly he gets to play next preseason game, bc if he played in the scrimmage he's healthy. :tu

I went to the scrimmage tonight.
Good to see Cunningham knock down 3s

The recap article on pounding the rock is an adequate summary for those who didn't watch.

Rudy looking great, Aldridge is still gonna get his buckets, Demar is slowly getting more comfortable but he was knocking down some shots from his sweet spots, Derrick White didn’t do much to stand out but I think he’ll be fine, Murray looking much more comfortable with his pull up mid range shot, Bryn knocking down threes but didn’t really take it to the hole much, Eubanks with great positioning around the basket for easy buckets, I saw Blossomgame knock down some mid range shots and he looks really active around the rim, Metu didn’t see too much out of him, didnt really look like he was trying to score though, Cunningham looked intriguing since he was knocking down some threes and looked comfortable doing so. Pondexter didn’t do much to standout, Patty had a couple points on drives, Marco scored some buckets too and you can tell he’s trying to be more of a playmaker. Lonnie has great potential, he knows how to create space for himself and he threw down a nice tomahawk jam.
I wouldn’t put too much thought in this one, it’s just preseason and the effort and intensity wasn’t really there overall.

Yeah lots of people are wondering why he can't dominate in regular games. I don't really watch practice to see Forbes, but do you think it's a confidence issue?

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
I went to scrimmage, quick notables.
-a lot of love for Lonnie and DDR. DDR even got a small MVP chant while at the line lol but it shows the love which is nice.
-Pau struggled and was schooled by Lamarcus.
-Lamarcus looks to be in midseason form, I expect him to make all star again this year.
-Dejounte looked to run quite a few times and he had a nice burst of speed but struggled to finish when he attempted a layup, needs to work on finishing those.
-DDR has great handles and looks silky smooth weaving through traffic. He hesitated to shoot a few times and Is looking to pass more than to shoot at the moment which is understandable but i hope he looks for his shot more.
-Walker showed off for the crowd during layup drills
-Pop just sat behind the players bench and let the assistants coach. He did sit next to Murray at the end of the game with Murray having his arm around Pop. I feel that Murray really wants to be the leader of this team.
I had never been to a scrimmage before but really wanted to go this year. I got a chance to sit 4 rows from the court, closest I've ever been. It was a nice experience. I'd recommend for those who dont ever get a chance to get close seats. It's free with free parking. Will probably go again next year.

That is the main reason to go, I always tell people the exact same thing.
**As the players exited through the tunnel I believe it was Dejounte who threw one of his shoes into the stands.
***Still early I know but I hate when a player has a smooth jumper like LWIV yet has very inconsistent shooting %. Bertans is similar, hoping he can break away from that stigma this season.

I think he has the same issue as Simmons. Worried about getting pulled by Pop in a game for missing shots or screwing up. He's already doing that so he should just play his game.

Gay seems like the player he was in Memphis. I am really surprised how much more athletic and healthy he seems, and his confidence is clearly through the roof.

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
Lonnie is already better than Number 2 at 19, offensively that is.
Give this kid a couple of years and he'd be a difference - maker.

I don’t care what it costs but I want us to re sign him to a longer deal at the end of the season

I think its a combination of games being more intense than practice, Bryn trying to hard to live up to those expectations and not letting the game come to him.

Re: Open Scrimmage Thread: Silver vs. Black - 10/3/18 @ 7 PM CST
It was good to see several line-ups, different structures and some combinations working well.
The Mills-Marco-Gay-Gasol core looks very good in offense: showing a lot of men and ball movement, taking advantage of great spacing with good passing. White didn't play very well but could be a good fit to complete this second unit, whilst inserting Cunningham would improve the defense and general toughness of this group. Forbes would complete a full attack mode unit and Poetl would make sense as well, in order to add rim protection, rebound, and physicality.
Another clear conclusion after watching the practice is that any pure shooter next to Aldridge, DeRozan, and Murray will get a good number of open shots. Forbes in the first quarter and Bertans more regularly took and hit a good number of threes. Forbes can't play any defense even against bench NBA players so I don't consider starting him a real option (despite Pop could decide to do it). To me, Bertans should start at SF or PF, regardlessly. I don't see Popovich renouncing to play two bigs so Gasol/Poetl could start, play a few minutes and be substituted by Rudy Gay (on a 6th man but true starter role). Patty could replace Bertans and so on and so on.
Lonnie Walker looks promising every time we watch him play. It's a shame he's too raw yet so the best scenario for him is to play 30min/game in Austin. The kid can create his own shot in all kind of 1on1 situations. White can make pays and shoot, Murray can rebound, play good defense and has a character, but Walker is clearly more talented than both.
DeRozan is still vulnerable in individual defense but I've noticed he's working hard on team defense. He's focused when he's away off the ball, trying to have a good positioning and helping/rotating as needed. He just lacks a little of pride in 1on1 action, hopefully that will come as he gains confidence and he fells more comfortable into the group.
The scrimmage was really interesting, we watched a lot of things from our players. I have one question for the ones who were at the AT&T: Was Ginobili around the Black Team bench?
