Sorry, Brent, but this is a much better SNL skit for Beno and Rasho.

NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs Tip-Off Luncheon
October 24, 2005 – Downtown Marriott
Juli, Jackie, Pam, Kristen and I arrived together for the luncheon and milled around for a bit, checking out the silent auction items and getting our picture taken with all 3 of the Spurs championship trophies. There was one item I was determined to get from the silent auction, an autographed poster-sized picture of Horry’s dunk in Game 5 over Rip Hamilton, I went up to about $400 but it ended up selling for $625 and I just couldn’t justify paying that much, even for charity. I did get my pic with the trophies and did the ‘spin for a prize’ where I won a Tony Parker bobblehead.
Sean Elliott kicked off the event as the emcee once again and brought up Bruce Bowen to say the prayer before lunch was served. He asked that the lights be dimmed a bit when Bowen came up to the stage because of the glare from his head.
After lunch, Coach Pop had his turn and made very clear that last year is over and no one cares about the championship anymore. He asked Michael Finley, Nick Van Exel and Fabricio Oberto if they cared … quite obviously they don’t since they weren’t on the team last year.
Tony Parker apparently managed to retire from doing the player introductions and passed along the tradition to Brent Barry. Barry took the stage and started a boring speech that had everyone asleep, he stopped mid-way through and said, laughing, “I can’t do this, let me start over.” Lights were dimmed and he walked off stage, he walked back on along with 3 silver dancers and livened it up a bit. He utilized a lot of pictures and video in his intros …
The Theme was ‘Back to School’ and each player had a title ---
The Rookies - Freshman Orientation
He brought up the 3 rookies trying to make the team and said he wanted to say what their accomplishments and awards were up to that point, kinda looked at his paper, then thanked them for coming up (for anyone who doesn’t get that, he was saying that have no accomplishments).
Brent Barry – Class Clown
Showed Brent in a wetsuit with a surfboard.
Beno Udrih & Rasho Nesterovic – Semester a Broad
Life, Liberty and the Happiness of Pursuit
He said these guys are serious partiers and went to club with them once, then showed a video from Night at the Roxbury (is that the right title?). I got this on video.
Tim Duncan – Teacher’s Pet
Brent said before he played with Tim, he’d heard that TD was boring, had no sense of humor and didn’t follow the dress-code. He wanted everyone to know that it was all true.
Bruce Bowen & Michael Finley – School of Hard Knocks
They showed the video of Bowen and Finley shoving each other … and then showed the video again. Finley and Bowen hugged at their table, they were sitting next to each other, and enjoyed the moment. Brent said he was going to have to speak with Yardley though because they named their new baby boy the same name that Brent and his wife wanted to name their boy that is due in January. As a side note, we saw Erin Barry and she looks absolutely adorable, especially for a woman that is 6-months pregnant!
Nick Van Exel – Transfer Student
Van Exel has been used to playing for a lot of ‘yes men’, as in “Yes, your honor…”. They showed a bunch of WANTED pictures of his former teammates from Portland.
Tony Parker – Marketing
TP is doing a good job of marketing himself and showed a video with pictures of Tony, including his GQ shots, with a couple of Eva intermixed, then they forgot about Parker altogether and just showed pictures of Eva and ended on a picture of Eva with ex-boyfriend JC Chavez. Barry apologized for putting her ex on there and claimed to have no knowledge of that, I got video of this segment as well.
Sean Marks – Home Economics
Also to the other new dads on the team, including Nazr Mohammed who didn’t make the trip since his wife just had a baby recently. Barry said he was able to get footage of Sean’s baby being born and showed a clip from Saturday Night Live with Charlie Sheen delivering a “baby” which turned out to be Will Farrell.
Fabricio Oberto & Manu Ginobili – Drama Class
They showed a couple of pictures with Oberto’s & Ginobili’s faces photoshopped onto the Wayne’s World guys (see the pictures). Barry introduced Fabio then continued on with Gino …
Manu was given an acting award for his theatrics on the court, a.k.a. flopping, and showed a little video of this. Barry brought Ginobili up to the stage to accept his award, which he did and even showed it off a little as he walked back to his seat (see my picture).
Robert Horry – Graduation Day
He said that Horry makes everyone else feel better and then showed a video of some of Horry’s great shots from this playoff run … that’s right, Barry, respect your elders!
The players then left and they had the drawing for the prizes, after that we were free to go. The ticket that we got when we checked in got us a door prize, a miniature championship trophy. The guy next to me left his ticket so I got 2 of them!
It was great to meet everyone that I got to meet and I can’t wait for the game tomorrow night!
Good stuff Misti! Thanks!
I tried calling you about going to the Alamo but couldn't get it to ring.
So no autographs or greetings/shaking hands right?

Great pics y'all! How I wish I could've been there!
I know, I saw you keep calling and I tried to answer but then it kept hanging up. I don't know what happened. Doesn't look like I'll be able to go tomorrow, I'm going to spend much of my day trying to get my driver's license replaced so I can fly home ...Quote:

Sounds like so much fun! Thanks for pics and recap to everyone who posted!!! :)
Well I'll be damned if Brent Barry isn't the best guy in the league for this kind of job. Maybe when he retires the Spurs can keep him on as shooting coach/jester.
Thanks for the pics and rightups, very informative and funny.
"Brent Barry ... the best guy in the league for this kind of job"
I was amazed at how funny, relaxed, assured Tony was at last year's luncheon in that role. and 10+ years younger than Brent.
Did they play Tony's champion rap video?

Too bad the Spurs Foundation doesn't tape the festivities... if they did, maybe they could put it on San Antonio on Demand and charge $2.00 - $3.00 to go to the charity. I'll bet LOTS of people who can't afford to do the luncheon at $100/person would pay a small fee to see all the fun from the comfort of home. They could even include some B Roll of interviews with fans who attended. Oh, well... maybe next year?
