I wanted this guy in San Antonio since 2016
Pels going on the Sean Marks / Nets route, creating a competitive team

Re: Spurs 2019 offseason thread
Does the league not give a shit about tampering unless it's LA or what? What's the point of having moved free agency up to today at 5 and were already hearing about numerous deals agreed to or planning to be agreed to

Madam Silver is a wuss and won’t address it. His BFF Lebron Will ground him for a week. Seems easier to open free agency two days after the Finals and allow signings a week after that.

SMH....
Unless they use some of those guards to acquire a SF aka the most important position in today's NBA.

Mills and Gasol were bad deals. But nothing close to some of the crap that got signed up to when the cap jumped. Guys were getting signed to $20+ a year for four years who were below replacement level.

I can’t see Dedmon getting more than a full MLE offer - no way. Don’t think he would be priced out of SA at all.
Lillard getting the max, no discounts, might end up being killer for POR next few years.

Re: Spurs 2019 offseason thread
I just saw that the league has set the cap for this year at just over $109M. It looks to me like the Spurs have about $103M in salaries (plus the balance of Pau's deal) on the books, including the two new rookies. Roughly $6M below the cap.
So are they going to be able to, say, trade Belli's roughly $6M contract, and take back a $12M player with that room
Then hire Gay with Early Bird (Max for him under early bird would be about 2/$35M, assuming they don't go longer.)
Then still have the Room MLE? (The Room MLE will be about $5.1M at this cap level.)
If I'm not missing anything, that's a substantially better situation than I'd been thinking.

Portland has never been a threat for anything. Pretenders year in and year out.

You’re missing Rudy’s cap hold. SA, in order to have any meaningful cap space would need to trade away Beli+others with no salary back and renounce Rudy.

Ah hell. Rudy's cap hold. Can't have it both ways, can you?

Sure, just means moving more money. Like if you trade DeRozan, you can keep the cap hold for Rudy and still have sizable cap room. To get to 12M in cap space While keeping Rudy’s cap hold (so you could exceed cap And re-sign him and bring in a 12M player), SA would need to:
Renounce all cap holds except Rudy
Sign Luka and Keldon to their Rookie Scale deals
Defer Milu
Renounce MLE & Bi-Annual Exceptions
If they did that, SA would be at -7.9M in cap space.
That means to get to 12M in cap space, SA would need to trade 20M in salaries with taking nothing back:
So something like Mills and Bertans moved would get you close while being able to keep Rudy.
