Something similar is true for Marx, there wasn't a substantial body of dedicated professionals to receive his economic writings at the time. Also, Marx was a journalist by trade and propagandist by temperament, he knew the value of brevity, as in his famous money=shit equation.
Yeah neither of these guys would be considered economists today, at least when looking at their prominent works.

Economics dolled it itself up with math and mathematical modeling and ditched the morality. Still not sure in my mind whether it is pseudo-science or pre-science.

Have you read Capital in the 21st Century? I haven’t read it but my dad has and he said it touches on the same issues as Das Kapital but is more or less a modern version.
