LaMarcus Aldridge > Paul "Pandemic P" George
For as much flack as people give LA, he's a way better 2nd option than PG13, especially in the playoffs

I have said in other threads he would have been more helpful for Kawhi against Jokic.

It's now laughable how Kawhi wanted to get rid of LMA for PG. Shows he's a dumbass when it comes to being a GM. Historically a perimeter star player usually needs an all-star caliber big to win. Lebron had Bosh,Love, and now has Davis. Kobe had Gasol/Shaq. Magic had Jabbar. Bird had McHale/Parish. The exceptions to the rule was with MJ/Pippen and Warriors with Curry/Klay/Durant.

yeah I always thought that Spurs team with LA and nephew was only missing a good 3rd option Point Guard and Derrick White would've been that guy going forward. He sabotaged his own career by forcing his way out. He'd have more than 2 rings after this season if he had stayed, there is no doubt in my mind about that
-
Re: LaMarcus Aldridge > Paul "Pandemic P" George
What's hurt the Spurs is the midgets Pop puts around LMA and DDR. I'd take LaMarcus over PG any day. With LMA now stretching the floor, and, hopefully, Pop realizing he has some decent young talent on this team (and realizing Murray shouldn't be the point guard of the future) the Spurs can get some playoff traction again next year.

I remember hearing the rumor that Pop tried convince Kawhi to stay in the summer of '18 by telling him he was going to get a third option to compliment him and Lamarcus. The rumor was the Spurs were going to make a deal with the Hornets to get Kemba.
On a side note Kawhi never ever tried to get Lamarcus involved in the offense. I never saw him set him up for easy layups and open jump shots the way he did for guys like Zubac,Gasol,Ibacka. I wonder if he deliberately tried to shut out Lamarcus out of the offense.

Mike had all-star quality bigs to win - Rodman (PF) was an all-star twice, and made All-NBA 3ed team twice. Horace Grant and Bill Cartwright both made 1 all-star game apiece... And Durant is 6'11"+...

I guess I should have said all-star bigs in the mold of being a 20-10 guy. Grant-Rodman-Cartwright were all great defensive specialist.

As far as I know that player was DeRozan. It seemed like they were getting DeRozan regardless since the Raptors wanted to move him, which would've been perfect. DeRozan as a 6th man works. They just traded Kawhi for him since he wanted out regardless.
LaMarcus got frozen out a lot on offense in his first 2 years. He used to get it going and then didn't get the ball for 6 minutes straight. I never understood that. That was on Pop though

LMA is as big a choking faggot as PG. This is a ridiculous take. :lol

Yeah I agree with RCD. David Aldridge reported that it was Kemba, but looking at the structure of the deal and Gasol saying he was informed he might be traded, I think it was supposed to be Green, Pau, Murray and Walker for DeRozan. And I say Walker and not 18 because I believe that Ujuri specifically wanted Lonnie, which is why the Spurs were trying to trade up into the top 10 to get him. That would explain why Pop doesn't really seem to give a shit about Walker despite the front office apparently loving him so much. Remember the Raptors were also rumored to be looking to get into the top-10 around the same time, and that jives with the Spurs' own pursuit.
If it were actually on the table, I believed the Kemba deal would've been Murray, Green and 18. I'm sure that was discussed, but seeing how Jordan refused to deal Walker during the whole year, I sort of believe MJ was only willing to move Kemba for Kawhi, and Aldridge heard that and assumed he was the Spurs' target.
I'm not sure that White/DeRozan/Leonard/Gay/Aldridge actually works. I think they'd have to fine a starting PF with the MLE or ring-chasing, and looking back at the free agents that year, there wasn't really one available. There were some centers available, but pushing LMA down would've just made it more awkward. It fits better with Walker/White.... but even that's dicey in the front court. I guess Bertans could work, but his defensive short-comings are constantly overlooked on this site.
I would've done the trade anyway, with or without Leonard. I mean, the DeRozan deal would've been awkward, but I think them doing it would've allowed them to take back more future value for Leonard rather than looking to replace him. Like had they done the DMDR deal and then traded Leonard to LAC for Harris and 12, they would've basically been where they were but having swapped out 18 for 12, Murray for Harris and would've been out a big without Gasol and Poeltl. Easily seems like the better future.

Playoff P can actually be an overqualified 3rd option on a championship team but Softridge is basically marginalized unless he’s a high usage player ala Melo
-
Re: LaMarcus Aldridge > Paul "Pandemic P" George
I think it was either Green, Gasol and one of Walker/Murray for DeRozan or Green, Gasol, Murray, Walker for DeRozan + Poeltl

Melo was decent for the Blazers this season.

I felt Kawhi could have easily gotten Lamarcus an extra 4-6 points per game simply by setting him up. LMA could have gotten his 20 and Kawhi could have still gotten his 25 plus. I think that would have been the happy medium for both. LMA just needed to get his 20 to be happy. I'll take your word for it that it was all on Pop for LMA getting froze out of the offense.

I agree with your take! Quitter turned into a ball hog and wouldn't get LMA involved in the offense so when he got hurt in the playoffs, LMA offense was off as they depended too much on Quitter!

yup, he went full iso-neph that entire season. He should have modeled his game after LeBrons and having multiple triple doubles. Instead, I think he got his first and only one or two of his career last season in Toronto.

It was disappointing when the Spurs first got LMA I envisioned him and Kawhi forming a dominant duo much like what we are seeing now with Lebron and Davis in LA. Spurs had a lot of regular season success with the duo of LMA/Kawhi but unfortunately in their short window it never materialized during the playoffs. In game 1 against the Warriors it seemed liked both had finally figured out how to play with each other but it came to an end quickly with Zaza. Still thought it was stupid how Kawhi felt he couldn't win with LMA when they were literally on the cusp of doing it if it wasn't for Zaza.

Re: LaMarcus Aldridge > Paul "Pandemic P" George
Kawhi really never set up LaMarcus in the pick & roll. They could've run some pick & pop action, etc. Not sure why but none of the 2 are great passers. What I saw was that Pop would usually take Kawhi out when the bench comes in and let LaMarcus stay out there for the entire 1st and 3rd quarter. The bench would then still try to run beautiful game offense and not get the ball to LA. Was kind of weird.
On the other hand LaMarcus was superb defensively during the 2017 season. What I got really excited about is when the Spurs got Rudy. Aldridge/Gay/Nephew front court would've been crazy

And for all the grief PATFO gets about roster construction, the Forbes and Mills roster spots mske far more sense when you imagine what they had planned for their lineups.
Having a Mills or Forbes on the floor is not problematic when you could have had these 4 guys on the floor with them: Green/neph/Gay or Bertans/LMA.
That's a pretty lethal lineup. 4 legit 3 pt shooters and three mid range paint and wing specialists, giving you lots and lots of flexibility with one lineup. Imagine attacking all the different ways with those 4 consistently on the floor together or in rotations. Defense was good to great especially with Pop's defensive mind and rotations.
Neph and uncle fucked themselves long-term.

It still gets me angry knowing how great of team we had and was on the verge of winning another title if it wasn't for this guy being mentally challenged and having a huckster uncle.
-
Re: LaMarcus Aldridge > Paul "Pandemic P" George
If you think about it Uncle Dennis really sabotaged nephews career.
2017/18 you would've been looking at:
Murray/Green/Kawhi/Gay/Aldridge
Mills/Manu/Bertans/Kyle Anderson/Gasol + Tony Parker, Bryn Forbes and Derrick White
that team probably doesn't beat the stacked Warriors with 4 All-Stars but reaches the WCF and at least has a shot at beating them.
2018/19 it's either:
White/Green/Kawhi/Gay/Aldridge
Mills/Belinelli/Cunningham/Bertans/Gasol
or if he still complains about lack of stars joining him
White/DeRozan/Kawhi/Gay/Aldridge
Mills/Belinelli/Cunningham/Bertans/Poeltl
that team rings if you ask me. That's the season KD is injured and without him the Dubs are food for this type of Spurs team.
If they ring they most likely keep Bertans and run it back for 2020, where a Spurs team with Kawhi, Aldridge, DeRozan and White would be the favorite to win it all and would most likely repeat.

They're both playoff losers. What are we arguing about here?
