On Jan 20, 2021, trump would be out of office if election results were not certified.

Certification is simply a stamp on the final count. Should the governor decide not to certify the election, he/she would get sued, and have to explain in court what those 'spidey-senses' are.

Hopefully he rejoins the post after Jan 20th next year, tbh

Presumably, each state would impanel its own electors and certify their votes before the 35 day safe harbor. EC votes would then go to to whichever candidate a Republican state legislature might favor.
I don't think it's a very likely outcome, but I think it belongs on the murder board.

That really depends on the laws of each state. Not sure what's the law specifically in the affected states.

No doubt. Seems a small price to pay to vindicate MAGAlandia by spoiling a valid election.
I've read a couple of Op-Eds ruling out competing slates of electors as legally untenable, but I just don't know how important that is anymore. If it's available and doable, DJT will try it and his followers will bless it. There are no lines with this guy or his followers. I think Trump is already burning down the republic to spite his own loss. It's a dangerous effort whether it fails or succeeds.

The problem here is that this doesn't hinge in a single State. By my count, you would need to do this in at least 3 States to pull it off, and you would also need to go and prove all the allegations happened, which is a high bar.
Plus, all this needs to happen within a month, more or less, courts are not going to drag this. That's why Sekulow is not wrong when he says they would need a miracle or major bombshell (that they can actually prove in court).
I don't care what Trump and his cult argument. They were not credible before the election, clearly they're not credible now, and as you point out, they don't care about anything but to pander to Dear Loser (they're a cult after all).

Spot on. Republicans stole the election in 2000 and it worked but that was only one state. Hard to maintain that level of fuckery in multiple states, especially in the internet era.

PA, MI and WI and AZ all have majority-Republican legislatures. That's a very low bar.

It wouldn't be too hard to sell to someone who already made up their mind.
Facing the wrath of MAGAlandia is a thing too. I don't like the tightrope Republicans are walking right now.

you'd have to prove it to the courts... they would be sued for not certifying the election, and they would have to prove that there were good grounds for doing so

That's what I keep hearing, but at that point we would essentially have renegade states attempting to annul an election. Any rando act of violence could send things seriously awry. Trump and the GOP are playng with fire.

attacking the electoral institutions was always that, though... but more so in the court of public opinion than the actual courts, which so far have been proving most of their claims to be meritless. they've already had 4 suits tossed against NV for instance
many of the twitter rumors arent even making their way into court, such as the allegations of dead voters in NV... none of the 4 suits raised that, but doesnt mean trumpers at the highest levels arent continuing to peddle that bullshit

Aren't they essentially just trying to find a maga judge at this point?
