So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
I'll go with Pierce because of his politics regarding slavery during his time
-
Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
LBJ or FDR, take your pick. Carter was actually a decent human being but incompetent and only a one term president.
-
Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
And Trump, a one term president, most definitely isn't #1 worst if that's what you're implying. All things considered, from the economy to COVID to the fact he only had 4 years instead of 8... I'd put Trump somewhere in the middle.

you said carter is a decent human but incompetent and only a one term president.
which is basically trump + the decent human being part

Carter was a disaster economically, so that cancels out the human being part. Neither are top 5 or bottom 5.
-
Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
Lincoln, Nixon, Jefferson, Jackson, Truman, Eisenhower, Grant, Teddy, Kennedy and Washington... in no particular order... are my top 10.
Best, not worst FYI

trump was also disastrous economically
the best fiscal year he had was 2017 when fully riding the obama wave. started to slow in 2018 after his tax cuts took effect. and then his mishandling of covid tanked the economy

1. Woodrow Wilson
2. FDR
3. Bush jr

Not in the first 3 years by any means, and the 4th year is an asterisk because he was dealt a ridiculously horrible hand by the chinese. I think the stimulus was awful and has caused some short term stagflation, hopefully that will translate into temporary deflation early in the Biden regime
Carter was a stagflation disaster from 77-80, he almost lost his own primary as an incumbent, gas went up from 69 cents a gallon to $2.79 in the late 70s, food went up seven-fold in price, and he is responsible for losing arguably one of the most strategic allies in the world in Iran.
Obama gets dinged a few points for not doing something about Iran in June 2009 when they had a chance to overthrow the religious leadership then, when the ayatollah's butt buddy Ahmedinejad rigged the election and millions of millennials protested against it and got beaten down by the religious police, but it was nothing nearly as bad as 1979 when the US could have completely wiped out the shia-jihadi revolutionary front to begin with.

He lost, plain and simple, but it doesn't change his presidential legacy, i.e. if Gore had been president from 97-00 and lost the way he did in 00, the fact he fought on a couple months wouldn't have made him worse or better IMO
Bottom ten are (no particular order): FDR, LBJ, Reagan, Wilson, Pierce, Johnson, Hoover, Carter, Bush Sr, Adams (pick one)

James Buchanan is the only president who’s done more than Trump to fan the flames of a potential civil war. Imo Trump and Buchanan are tied right now, but if we end up with mass riots and destruction because of MAGAtards Trump has convinced the election was rigged, I’ll rank Trump ahead.
:lmao people brainwashed by their corporate overlords into ranking FDR as a bad president. He won 4 fucking terms as president.

He's definitely #1 worst in my lifetime.
As far as historical, I find it difficult to believe any of his predecessors were so adamantly anti-democracy, but this country certainly has a shady history.

Youre also just wrong. There was more job creation in the last 3 years of Obama’s presidency than the first 3 years of Trump’s. It also makes no sense to give Trump credit for 2017 when that was Obama’s policy and budget year. Trump gets credit for stagnating job growth in 2018 with tax cuts that went towards stock buy backs.

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
Cuckservatives who rank Eisenhower high and FDR low expose themselves are partisan hacks. Eisenhower kept all new deal programs in place and in some ways expanded the new deal (i.e. the interstate highway projects). If he ran for president on his economic policy today, he'd be labeled a radical communist. There aren't enough differences between FDR and Eisenhower to say one was significantly better than the other. IMO they were both two of the best presidents we ever had.
Eisenhower also nominated Earl Warren, the most progressive Chief SCOTUS justice in the history of the country (i.e. why you always hear conservatives complaining about "the Warren Court").

Those were 100% necessary, but today's socialists would argue they are too car-centric and not green enough. The only problem is that they should have included a mandatory three regular lanes instead of two per direction on each and every interstate highway, accounting for a likely congestion in the future. Look at Austin today on 35... nuts. But really the whole corridor.
As for the Warren court, yeah that led to the Roe v Wade decision so that's probably the biggest complaint there. Back in the day SCOTUS picks were more about strict qualification rather than partisan or originalist vs. living constitutionalist.

Obama's final 2-3 years were good for job growth, admittedly, though the salaries soared around 2018 for tech jobs compared to before. Obama's first term was terrible economically. Recession didn't officially end until early 2013

The main knock on Ike IMO is letting the Dulles brothers run a corporate foreign policy that is still biting us in the ass 70 years later. Worse than Vietnam tbh.

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cewbd.t01.htm
Net private sector job growth by year:
2013: 2,439,000
2014: 2,929,000
2015: 2,484,000
2016: 1,632,000
2017: 2,012,000
2018: 1,993,000
2019: 1,570,000
Job growth was already slowing down even before COVID because the right wing plan of tax cuts + deregulation was stagnating the economy the same way it always does.
Trump inherited a growing economy with booming job growth and ran it into the ground to give himself a tax cut.
-
Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
Warren G Harding or Bush Jr imo

Now you're changing the subject away from your retarded claim that Trump had job growth we haven't seen in decades.
The final two years of Obama's first term had great job growth, but I've come to expect MAGAtards to blame Obama for inheriting an abortion from a Republican president (the same way Biden is inheriting an abortion from Trump).
Salaries also did not soar in 2018, you're making more stupid shit up. Median household income from 2017 to 2018 grew by 2.7%. Compared to most Republican presidents that's not bad but it's fucking terrible compared to Democrats. It's pretty undisputable which political party creates better income growth. Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
I get why MAGAtards worship him, but why do Democrats not rank Reagan as one of the worst presidents ever? He dismantled the new deal and radically shifted the overton window in this country to the right. We don't get GWB or Trump without Reagan first. He was just as racist as Trump was, he just said it more subtly, and he made up facts just as often as Trump does. If all the things people blame for 40 years of rapidly increasing wealth inequality, Reagan's tax cuts and dismantling of new deal programs clearly aligns with when that started.
We had a golden age that basically lasted from FDR through Nixon, but outside of that our presidents have been oligarch shills with rare exception. The rampant executive and judicial corruption in the early 20th century largely goes unnoticed. Go look up some supreme court rulings from the Lochner Era if you think today's supreme court is the most corrupt we've ever had.

:lol the graph is inherently biased... lol at $2K increments on the left hand column. The actual difference is negligible, but Obama raising taxes (by not extending the Bush II tax cuts) and the Trump tax bill, which is a mixed bag albeit, made up those marginal differences in a hurry.

You mean Truman through Nixon. FDR was dead by the time Truman dropped the bomb and henceforth the era of good feelings began. Truman and Ike were good presidents. Vietnam was a stain on that era and it was LBJ's fault. Kennedy nor Nixon would have entered Vietnam.
The 1930s were DEFINITELY not a golden age, lmao. FDR turned Hoover's recession into The Great Depression. As for the first half of the 1940s, it only resulted in tens of millions of young American men dying brutal deaths, tbh... :lol

:lmao "marginal differences". Republicans had wages decline, Democrats had wages increase.
Obama raising taxes is what led to increased wages. Trump's tax bill is what led to stagnating job growth in 2018 and 2019. What your saying has absolutely no empirical support.

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
In my lifetime I'd still rank Reagan worse. The War on Drugs and the disproportionate focus on crack usage set in motion a prison industrial complex that impacted the poor and minorities in a way this country may never recover from.
The invention of the Trickle Down Economics hoax. The merger of evangelicals and Republicans. Iran Contra, the EPA scandal, HUD rigging, some of the most extreme Cold War fearmongering we ever saw.
Even if you give him credit for the fall of the USSR, the rest of the mess he made has had far greater long term impact.

:lol wages don't mean shit if you have pay more of it to the IRS than you gained with the increase of a few bucks per hour.
Personal income taxes should be very low, and should definitely not go up for anyone making under a million a year... Corporations and mega billionaires on the other hand can go to hell. They should be taxed like crazy.

Back up some of this stupidity. What did FDR do to make the great depression worse? It's laughable revisionist history to claim the Great Depression didn't start until 1932.
To be fair to Hoover, the depression started on his watch, but it was caused by the reckless Laissez-faire economic policy of Harding and Coolidge. Hoover was another free market retard who wanted to continue their policy, but the damage was done by the time he was president. Of course Hoover handled the depression about as badly as humanly possible until the 1930 midterm elections when Democrats cleaned up.

The Roaring Twenties were bound to end at some point, and it all crashed at the end, in Hoover's regime, but lol at the Dems "cleaning up" in 1930 when the great depression trucked on until WWII. Very true. That said, I don't know if I'd put all of that on Trump, that seemed to be a trend with conservatives that he just escalated because of his exposure to radical right wing groupthink.

The Dems picked up 8 senate seats and 52 house seats in 1930. If that's not cleaning up I'm not sure what is.
You still haven't backed up anything you've said with numbers. FDR fucked up by beginning to cut spending too early in 1937. From 1932 to 1937, the unemployment rate went from 23.6% to 14%. If that's your criticism of FDR, that his new deal wasn't liberal enough and didn't spend enough, fine with me. That doesn't really do anything to help your conservative values.

Reagan was awful, and maybe the single most overrated president in history. GOP guys love him though for the reasons mentioned. Tough on "crime," trickle down economics, and reaching out to the evangelical nuts. BUT he played a huge part in taking down the USSR, so...
All things considered, GWB might be the worst ever. He plunged us into a perma-war in Afghanistan and Iraq, sowed the seeds for ISIS, and oversaw a 180 from Clinton's surplus due to his stupid tax cuts. Bush didn't seem like a bad guy himself, but his cabinet had 2 straight up EVIL people in it (Cheney, Rumsfeld) pulling all of the strings.
Trump was awful, and has definitely taken the country in the wrong direction, but I think GWB left more devastation in his wake...for now at least.

Let the economic cycle naturally move back into prosperity rather than trying to jimmy it with big government, stimulus, tax hikes, going away from the gold standard, etc.

Agreed on this except for judges. Trump filled the court with radical Fedsoc judges who are going to be there for decades. I almost think we lucked out with Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, he could have nominated two more Alitos and the senate would have rubber stamped them. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh actually make some effort to rule impartially. His tax cuts were also permanent while Bush's went away.
If Trump won a 2nd term, I think there's no question he would have been as destructive as GWB was.

So when has that ever worked? Feel free to use examples. Herbert Hoover tried it when the Great Depression initially hit in 1929, how did that go?

All things considered, GWB might be the worst ever. He plunged us into a perma-war in Afghanistan and Iraq, sowed the seeds for ISIS, and oversaw a 180 from Clinton's surplus due to his stupid tax cuts. Bush didn't seem like a bad guy himself, but his cabinet had 2 straight up EVIL people in it (Cheney, Rumsfeld) pulling all of the strings.
Trump was awful, and has definitely taken the country in the wrong direction, but I think GWB left more devastation in his wake...for now at least.
Disagree. Trump actively sacrificing hundred of thousands of our lives for the stock market and doing everything he can to poison trust in epidemiological experts during a pandemic that is raging through our nation is the worst thing an American president has ever done. And it looks like he's working on the second worst thing with the coup he seems to be setting in motion.

You have to wait out a full economic cycle, which is typically 6-10 years.

That’s a spectacular answer to a question I didn’t ask.

Joey you are really stupid. I mean top ducks or spurtacular. but dang, you’re sure trying.
i always thought it was the fact that you’re druggie that caused your family to have nothing to do with you. In reality, it may just be because you’re retarded.

ACA - Raised average medical premiums four-fold
Revoked Bush tax cuts
2009 stimulus
2009 didn't send support to the anti-Khomeini protestors at the time of the rigged election. We could have taken back Iran for the good.
Attacked Libya for no good reason
2011 supported jihadi "Arab Spring" vocally
Vocally took sides on controversial issues, i.e. "my son would have looked just like Trayvon"
Ignored ISIS from 2014-2016
Lowered interest rates down to next to nothing
I could go on.....

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
Trump pros:
-Eliminated industry federal regulations on 12:1 ratio
-Created mass job growth from 2017-2019
-2017-18 Trump tax bill lowered taxes for those who apply the standard deduction
-Defeated ISIS
-Killed Baghdadi
-Killed Soleimani
-Appointed 3 excellent conservative SCOTUS justices
-Acknowledged the problem of China gaining influence in the USA
-Did not enter new long-term war or declare war on new country, unlike predecessors
-Increased stability in the North Korea tensions
-Got out of the terrible Iran nuclear deal which greatly favored Iran
-Removed the USA from the Paris Climate Accord which costs billions of taxpayer dollars
-Passed a degree of criminal justice reform reducing non-violent crime (i.e. drug, fraud) sentences
Trump CONS:
-He's ugly, and kind of fat
-2017-18 tax bill raised tax burden on those who itemize deductions
-His fake spray tan looks retarded
-Misogynistic and a womanizer; has kids with 3 different women
-His hair looks really, really retarded
-Tweets like a goddamned idiot
-Tariffs raised consumer prices and poked the sleeping giant bear in an unnecessary way
-Didn't completely shutdown the country when COVID hit, leading to six-figure human losses on US soil due to the virus
-Nepotistic appointments in his cabinet/inner circle
-Not a very presidential president in a formal, traditional sense
-The 2020 stimulus was by far his worst act. Robbing our great-grandchildren and jacking up the national debt even higher. #Romney2012 :(

COVID is definitely a good point. Domestically, it's one of the worst things that a president has ever done. Trump is definitely the most embarrassing and divisive president in US history. No doubt about that.
I think that Trump is the Reagan of this new generation, in the sense that he's going to define the direction of the GOP for years to come...and not in a good way.

spying on a duly elected president, running guns to cartels, planting seeds of division amongst us all, underhanded deals with foreign adversaries, etc...
and your guessing about you being fat is not my problem but it sure seems to be yours. every time you're bitchass has something to say you end it with the same cliche bullshit just like CumDumpster does. yall are two fucking retards.

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
But from what i've been hearing on ST, the president isn't "duly elected' until the electors meet and certify the results in congress in January :lol so Obama was just spying on a regular dude tbh. And trump's own lawyers have argued that a sitting president can spy on whoever they want, so which is it?

Also has back in the day ties to Ed Markey, so everyone across the party should like him.
Hes supposed to make the official announcement tomorrow. Cabinet picks that actually require senate confirmation won’t come for awhile though.

So Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 due to 3 million illegal voters, “built a wall” to keep out illegals, and proceeded to then lose the popular vote in 2020 by over 5 million illegal votes?
So you admit Trump was a massive failure :lmao

I admit you're trying really hard. Trump increased with Latinos. Biden increased with dead people and illiterate non voters as well as the so-called glitch constituency.

Re: So who's now considered the 2nd worst president ever?
Lying comes easy to him but coping with trump losing is hard.
Reminds him of his wayward dad leaving after saying he would be back shortly.
Sad.
