Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Should the Spurs try to sign him for the minimum if he becomes available?
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba...p-392387c.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Knicks are in the process of negotiating a buyout with Jalen Rose, according to a source close to the veteran small forward. Rose was a no-show at yesterday's public practice at FDU-Teaneck. When asked about Rose's whereabouts, Isiah Thomas replied: "I would just say personal reasons at this time."
Jerome James and newcomer Kelvin Cato also were missing yesterday.
Rose, who is scheduled to earn $16 million, .arrived for camp out of shape and struggled in the preseason. In four games, Rose played 42 minutes and missed the only two shots he attempted. He did not dress for Friday's preseason finale against the Nets and did not sit on the bench.
It has been clear since the start of training camp that Rose has no future in New York. Quentin Richardson is expected to be the Knicks' opening-night starting small forward, with David Lee and Renaldo Balkman serving as backups. Also, small forward Jared Jeffries, who was signed during the summer, is scheduled to return from a fractured right wrist by mid-December.
Asked if Rose would be in the rotation, Thomas said: "I'll let you know in a couple of days."

Um, considering we have no long three, fuck yeah.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I don't know. I guess he could be the new Glen Robinson, but I don't think he's ready to pay a role. I don't think Rose will ever be ready to play a role, but thats just my (way) outside observation of him.

No, he can't defend and rebound.
I rather give playtime to Eric Williams.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
You can treat him the way Pop treated Big Dog - we'll bring you in, but we aren't going to bend over backwards for you. If you act up, you're gone. But if you want to be a part of the team and win a title, come on down.
Low risk/high reward...

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I wouldn't mind having Rose at all. A good scoring talent, and is 6'8". Not a good defender or anything, but not someone that can be posted up easily by a big SG/SF.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
It would be kind of funny if the Spurs did get him, Nazr then Butler and then Jalen Rose :spin

Thomas already has said he thinks Rose is deficient defensively and might not have "a lot of run left in that body." Rose has appeared to be in less-than-peak condition this preseason.
Rose has played 42 minutes this preseason and hasn't scored a point.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Rose supposedly said many times he'd like to play in LA.
Whatever happened to Q Woods?
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Peter Holt needs to buy a 7th house. He should pocket the money and the Spurs should go with 14.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I doubt Rose would sign on here to play less than he would have in New York.

As for Rose's pre-season play, the simple facts are he knows he's on the way out, doesn't get along with Isiah, and has shut it down.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Qyntel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >Jalen
Every team that Jalen was ever on purposefully got rid of him. He resists changes to his comfort zone, not wanting to play PG, not wanting to play SF, whatever. He's just a little bitch. They talk about his versatilty, but he never wants to use it. He only wants to play SG. Sorry, bub. We've got that covered, X3, with better players.
If we're going to use position #15, make it a developmental project. We have enough Thirtysomething veterans already.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
When I first realized he was on the way out, I thought the Spurs should pick him up for as close to the minimum as possible, but I don't think he offers the team anything they don't already have. He can score, but they have Finley. He's a 'playmaker' but tends to dominate the ball. I agree, that 15 slot should go to a young prospect. Let's try and get Marshall.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
he's more like no risk no reward. has he ever had a productive year
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I vote no...
IF Jalen plays here, even if it's only for a season, it increases the chance he will wind up doing Spurs broadcasts once he has retired...
This must never happen...

Rose can't defend and rebound, I don't see how he will be more usefull than Barry or Finley.
Being 6'8" is useless if you don't use your height to grab boars or play defense on big players.

People said the same shit about Steve Kerr, Stephen Jackson, Glenn Robinson, etc., I'd say those worked out okay. The Spurs can teach guys how to play defense, you've been around long enough to know that by now.
Just admit you don't like the guy and move on.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I don't like the guy. I'll leave it up to the coaching staff to see if he can be rehabilitated. I don't think we have an inside line on that like we did with GRob.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
I think it would all depend on what Larry Brown thought of Jalen, because you know Pop would be calling him for the scoop.

We don't need this kind of players this year because we still have Barry and Finley.

Jalen rose isn't a player that I don't like, I just don't think he can help us.
BTW, Just admit you don't like Pop and move on.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
The potential is intriguing, but I just can't see Rose coming over here and being happy with GRob-type minutes.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Jalen has better career prospects in broadcasting and talk shows (charismatic guy) than he does on the court. He's clearly on the downslide and would be a solid contributor on a lottery team at best (back to Toronto? j/k).
I'd say he's better off if he retires to Television.
And like most people, I agree that he'd be the wrong choice for the 15th spot.

Have you ever actually watched him talk or do an interview?
Vomit has more charisma than Jalen Rose.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
They should probably worry about getting younger, not older.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
i may be in the few but i say pick him up. though i doubt pop would even consider picking him up i think it would be a good idea. he could have a slight bigger role then big dog, add even more depth to our team. believe it or not he can play defense. what can it hurt? if he acts up trade or release his ass.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
The last roster spot should go to a young, long 3, not an old douche.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
IMO a player like Rose is totally useless on a roster like the Spurs.
Spurs for sure don't need any additional veteran help.
and being veteran is the only thing that is left when looking at Rose nowadys.

Knicks Will Buy Out Contract of Rose
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
Jalen Rose will be waived by the Knicks, possibly as soon as today, as the team continues its youth movement.
The team is negotiating a buyout of the final year of Rose’s contract, which calls for him to earn $16.9 million. The precise terms of the buyout are not known.
“We’re close to reaching an agreement, and my expectation is it could be done as early as tomorrow,” Arn Tellem, Rose’s agent, said last night.
Rose, 33, was became expendable after the Knicks signed small forward Jared Jeffries over the summer. They also drafted small forward Renaldo Balkman with the 20th pick.

Knicks waive 12-year veteran Rose, buy out contract
The Isiah Thomas coaching regime isn't roses for all the Knicks.
Thomas announced Monday that the team has waived forward Jalen Rose.
A report indicating Rose could be cut and have his contract bought out appeared on the New York Daily News Web site late Sunday.
The Knicks negotiated with his agent Arn Tellem to reach a buyout of the final year of his contract, worth $16.9 million.
Rose has averaged 14.7 points with five teams over 12 NBA seasons. In four preseason games with the Knicks this season, Rose averaged 10.5 minutes.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
It will be interesting to see where he ends up...
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
He'd be perfect in Detroit. He has been unreasonable about playing the 3 in the past, but he's a better fit as a small forward in Flip Saunders's scheme than either Prince or Delfino is.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Does Dallas have a roster spot? Cuban likes signing guys he's heard of.

from what i read the last days, it will be between Heat and Pistons.
Pistons as favourites, Jalen is from Detroit and the Pistons have been his team when he grew up. also there is a relationship to Dumars since the college days, when Piston players like Dumars and Thomas used to play at st. cecilia with young players from the area (Webber, Rose, Coleman etc.)
the Heat on the other hand would give him the chance to play also the point (at least as long as Williams is out) and Rose often mentioned that this is his favourite position. and with the Heat he might have a better shot at a ring.
-
Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Word has it that Riles and the Heat may be very interested.
Riley Showing Interest In Jalen Rose?
31st October, 2006 - 4:32 am
Miami Herald - Unlike most cases when the Heat coach downplays free-agent prospects, Miami coach Pat Riley sounded intrigued Monday with the possibility of adding 6-foot-8 veteran Jalen Rose, who was waived by the Knicks Monday.
"He's a very skilled player," Riley said shortly after Rose agreed to a buyout with the Knicks. "He's still young, I think, at 33 years old. So he is capable. He's very capable, we know that. But he has to be at the right place at the right time."
Riley offered his comment about Rose shortly after he said a potential return of forward Shandon Anderson has been placed on the backburner.
Because Rose received a significant portion of the $17 million he was due this season from the Knicks, he would arrive with relatively little impact on the Heat's salary cap.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Hmmm...Rose would be an interesting pickup for the Spurs. Although, he might fit in better with a few other teams out there. The Heat and Pistons being two of them (for various reasons).
And like Aggie said, low risk/high reward potential. If the Spurs did pick him up, and if he does get in shape, he can provide solid off the bench scoring, plus being a versatile player when the Spurs decide to go with small ball again in the playoffs. Plus...where are these other young small forwards out there that the Spurs should be picking up just as the season is about to begin?

Maybe it hasn't been mentioned, but Malone would have come in very handy against the Mavs.

Lakers could use Rose more than the Spurs could. I don't see anywhere to put him on this team. He'd make Barry's game most redundant.
As for the last sentence, check out some of the other threads around here. Not a lot of options, but a decent young SF prospect just got cut.

When last seen, he was owning the Spurs on defense.

Re: Isiah working to get rid of Jalen Rose
Id bring in Rose, but I don't think Pop has consulted Larry Brown on this Knick yet.

Jalen makes Shaq look like frikking Joe Buck.

The closest thing we have to an enforcer is Horry. I wouldn't mind having that 15th spot filled by a bruiser.

You're referring to Desmond Mason, I presume? Fair enough, and I agree that Rose might NOT be the best solution that is out there. Just trying to come up with some arguments as to why he would be a useful pickup.
