have to agree with the choice of howard..we still need some hustle and especially on the boards..and he can learn from timmy..picture that! twin towers all over again..

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard on the Spurs would equal another 3 rings at least.

LeBron.
I'd want to get him on the team just to see ducks' reaction.

One thing's for sure - duck's reaction would be in incoherent, incomplete sentences.

GOG,
Seeing how the other four choices appear serious, I assume you were serious about Shane Battier. And, with that, I say ... WTF?!?!?!
"superstar"
Shane Battier is a very good role player, and a great character guy. But, superstar?
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Uh Howard is NOT a superstar. Neither yet for all his talent is AK47. There are only 5 or so true SUPERSTARS in the league who have proven over several years they are at that level (TD among them) the rest are just stars.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
tayshawn prince would fit perfectly and become a SUPER star playing with the spurs
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
to make more room for discussion..lets forget about the superstar thing..superstar, star, future star, role player..which players would have the biggest impact?

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Just Kidding....

jermaine oneal, elton brand :king

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard I'd take over any player in the league right now.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Well, if you are dismissing superstars, then I second Shane Battier. I cried when he came to Houston, because I want him on our team. I hate seeing him in a Rockets uni.
Dwight Howard would be next on the list.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
A healthy AK would fit in nicely at the 3 spot...It would have the added benefit of addressing our position of greatest need when considering the age factor.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Adding Dwight Howard would be the closest possible approximation to having David Robinson in his early prime on the 2006-07 Spurs.
With Howard, the Spurs go from a mediocre rebounding team to one of the best.
Their defense would go from its current slow decline to something more like the 1998-99 team.
Or looking at it another way, take the 1998-99 Spurs, but replace Avery Johnson and Mario Elie with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
Such a team would be utterly untouchable.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Zach Randolph. You should trade Tim Duncan for him.

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard would bring back the true Twin Towers, but he would not solve the perceived need to go small ball when we face Dirk.
Get KG and Small Ball is Dead Forever.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Emeka Okafor. He's rock solid on D and the boards, and doesn't need a ton of touches. He shoots shitty FTs, and will be a RFA in '08 if he doesn't extend next summer. It's a match made in heaven.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
I agree with Howard and Okafor but they are both pipe dreams.
Chris Bosch would fit in great and I think the Raptors would deal him for the right price.

Ones I want:
Both Howards
Josh Smith
Elton Brand
Michael Redd
Emeka Okafor
Andre Iguodala
TJ Ford

Bosch is WAY more a pipe dream than Okafor. Think about it: Who's Charlotte's "basketball" man right now? That's right. The one, the only NBAer that is as bad a front office guy as he was good a player, other than 'Zeke: Michael Jordan. Just ask Detroit if he won't deal young talent. He pretty much destroyed the Wiz during his tenure.
On another note, Atlanta has that skinflint owner back in the saddle. I'm thinking that he's going to lowball the Josh's with their extension offers next summer, and one of them may be snaggable in '08.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Kobe Bryant.
Killer mentality. Plays D. Hates to lose. Leader. Can distribute the ball if needed. Good free throw shooter. Clutch.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard, Shawn Marion, Carlos Boozer

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwayne Wade I think would flourish here, since he has a similiar gameplay mechanic as Ginobili.
I think Kidd and Okafor would also fit well in here, Howard probably wouldn't be a right fit but Okafor would. Problem is with him is that he's prone for injuries, same for Kidd.

even roleplayers reggie evans would do good even if his undersized but damn he looks big on tv though....would solve our rebounding problems

I think it all depends on how quickly Bargnani develops. Also, Bosch only signed a three year extension. It would take a sweet deal for Colangelo to even consider it but the Raptors loves European players and there are some good ones around the league.

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Sure, as long as we're dreaming I'll take Kobe, Wade, KG, Nash, and Howard. Oh, and a side order of Bosh, AK, Boozer, and LeBron.
The only interesting question is: should the Spurs sit tight on their big three or actually try to work a trade to bring in another star. Duncan is obvisouly untouchable, so the only real question is: whom would you trade Parker/Manu for?
BTW, McGrady is today's Gervin. Just wanted to get that out there.

Spurs should keep trade possiblities open for a chance at some new superstar to unfold, a player like Haslem for the Spurs WOULD be a perfect fit.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard -- the latest DRob incarnation....
Shawn Marion - The guy doesn't ever need his number called to be effective... which means that on a team with TD, Parker and Ginobili he would be a beast...
LeBron James - Is anybody out there more versatile than this guy? All he needs to work on is defense...
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Marion made $13.7M last year. That's a tad much for a 4th option, don't you think? In the half court offense, he's Bruce Bowen, plus a few putbacks. He can't create for himself or others. He's a complimentary player with a MAX contract.
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Emeka Okafur
15+ points a game
Excellent defense
50% free throw shooting

Money was not considered in my evaluation...
As for your own assesment.... Marion is a way better rebounder than Bowen and a potent offensive threat without needing the ball in his hands.
Plus he's a very good steals man...
And he doesn't need to create for others, because he plays for a Nash-led team. He plays his role well. Did not watching the debaucle of Team USA not give you enough insight on the fact that having too many stars is not necessarily a good thing??? Marion gives you star numbers without getting plays called for him all while being a role player. That's all I was trying to point out.

Why is this even being asked? It is so hypothetical! People who post to this thread need to get a life.
How about Manu's 14 assists in the last two games? How about high-scoriong Adam Morrison being held to 4 points? And by Whom? Who didn't score a point last night but had everything to do with our victory?
Let's talk about that, or about Barry, or Beno.

The Adam Morrison thing is being discussed (see: Elliott: Baby Powder...), and if you want to talk about Ginobili's assists, then start a thread about it.
If you don't want to comment on who would fit the Spurs' persona, then don't!

Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Honestly, i think SA would be out of this world right now with Elson/Oberto, Duncan, Josh Howard at the 3, Ginobili, and Parker. If he hadn't slipped by the Spurs and into Dallas' lap, they're would be a gulf between the two teams right now.
-

Gasol
Or...
What about Yao+Duncan :elephant
-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
Dwight Howard without a doubt...he seems to have the personality, and it would be back to Robinson/Duncan, except Duncan/Howard. That would be insane down low.

-
Re: which superstar outside of san antonio would be best fit for spurs?
To answer your question, I would say Jermaine O'Neal, but I went ahead and had some fun with the star theme.
Superstar - Jermaine O'Neal
Future Superstar - Dwight Howard
Star - AK47
Raising Star - Andrew Bynam
Falling Star - Shaq
Moonstar (role player) - Shane Battier
Northstar (Head coach) - PJ Carlisimo
Mourningstar (College Player) - Aaron Gray,Pitt
Lonestar (Star w/o a team) - Steve Francis
Death Star - (Anyone who is overpaid and doesnt play defense or is a cancer to the team) Jwaun Howard, Gary Payton, Rasheed Wallace, Darius Miles, Chirs Webber, Antoine Walker.
