Yeah, I can't believe the Sixers didn't get a first-rounder.
Bonzi must be slapping himself.

For the Sixers, it's all about who'll they get for Iverson
By Stephen A. Smith
The Philadelphia Inquirer
(MCT)
Here's what we know: Allen Iverson is gone.
Here's what we care about: Whatever the 76ers are going to get for him.
Here's what we'll hear: "It's his fault! It's their fault!" Coming from both sides.
Perhaps we'll care in the days and weeks to come.
Just as long as it doesn't matter now.
Today, the primary concern should be preventing Iverson from becoming Charles Barkley, Part II, making sure the Sixers don't let go of their latest mercurial star for a bag of cheap beans thrown in the trash after Thanksgiving.
As Iverson's departure from Philadelphia appears conspicuously imminent, with nary an attempt at denial coming from the Sixers, there will be plenty of time to dissect this franchise soon enough.
We'll all ponder one day what life would be like for the Sixers right now if they had traded Iverson years ago when former coach Larry Brown insisted it was best for the franchise. We'll wonder what would have become of the coaching careers of Randy Ayers, Chris Ford, Jim O'Brien or even Mo Cheeks if they were faced with the challenge of coaching someone else instead of Iverson.
Questionable decisions by Billy King, the Sixers' president and general manager, will come into focus, as will that of team chairman, Ed Snider, who some - not me, though - believe should fire himself. But none of that matters now.
What matters is that at least nine teams from the Eastern Conference all called the Sixers yesterday. What matters is that Dallas, Chicago and the Clippers all have potential deals the Sixers should want.
King's imagination can capitalize on potential deals with Minnesota, Boston, Denver, Sacramento or Golden State if any of those teams are willing to play ball. His knack for politics might even position him to pull off a heist with Chicago or Dallas. And, perhaps, the biggest plus of all is that King and the Sixers are no longer concerned with the 6-foot guard out of Georgetown who said, "As hard as it may be to admit, a change may be the best thing for everyone."
Said one Sixers source: "There was a time when Billy (King) cared about sending Iverson to a contender, just out of gratitude for all he's meant to this franchise. That time has passed. He ain't thinking about A.I. anymore. At least not on that level."
With that in mind, knowing the Sixers are in search of youth and feasibly sensitive contracts, here's the lowdown:
Bulls: The Bulls could send the expiring contracts of forwards P.J. Brown and Michael Sweetney, with guard Ben Gordon and a first-round pick to Philly for Iverson. Their brass will meet today, but appear unlikely to make such a move.
Dallas: The Mavs could send the expiring contracts of Jerry Stackhouse and Austin Croshere, along with point guard Devin Harris. Problem? Owner Mark Cuban loves Harris and doesn't want any debate as to whether it will be Dirk Nowitzki's team or not.
Boston: Coach Doc Rivers is willing to surrender anyone other than Paul Pierce for Iverson. That includes Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and forward Al Jefferson, if necessary. But Danny Ainge is running the show, and it's unclear what he'll be willing to do. Plus, Wally Sczcerbiak or Theo Ratliff would have to come to Philly in order to make a deal work.
Golden State: Mike Dunleavy Jr., Troy Murphy or Jason Richardson would have to come to Philly to make a deal happen, but the Sixers would love to get their hands on Monta Ellis, who is loved. The Warriors say they're not about to part ways with Ellis, but everyone talks that nonsense before a deal gets done.
Timberwolves: They barely have anything the Sixers want, outside of Villanova product Randy Foye. And Minnesota swears they're not about to let him go. We'll see.
Clippers: The Sixers shouldn't even talk to them unless they're willing to part ways with Corey Maggette and Shaun Livingston, which the Clips are not willing to do.
Grizzlies: Eddie Jones' expiring contract is about the only asset the Grizzlies have to offer. And Mike Fratello's toupee will fall off trying to coach Iverson.
Kings: Mike Bibby is owed $28 million over the final two years of his contract, but rumors have swirled he could elect to opt-out. Plus, Ron Artest loves Iverson. A long shot, of course. But you never know with the Kings' owners, the Maloof brothers.
Of course, there's always the possibility of multi-team deals, or a remote possibility that Iverson could be bought out of his contract. But that's venturing into the absurd, specificially for a franchise with a few employees holding on by the skin of their teeth.
In time, we'll know where Iverson's going and what the Sixers have gotten for him.
Save the hostility for then. Not now.
There seem to be 2 final holdups 1.the 3rd contract (Douby or Garcia) and 2. The Bobcats made a late call and mentioned Gerald Wallace/Sean May, but the Bobcats call got Philly interested in Raymond Felton who the Bobcats have said they are unwilling to part with but haven't closed the door on negotiations. Either way, the deadline as laid out by Phiully ownership is nearing and they're gonna take the Kings deal if the Bobcats don't sweeten the pot quickly with Felton.
Why so many players involved? Two would do it.Quote:

Allen Iverson is toxic. As far as team chemistry goes, he is the polonium 210 in the punch bowl. He will change addresses soon, from Philadelphia to whichever NBA team is foolish or desperate enough to trade for him. And almost immediately, that team's hair will fall out. Its organs will fail.
It will be beautiful.
Because Iverson deserves this. He deserves to go down in history as the Terrell Owens or Jeff George of his sport, someone whose immense physical gifts were never enough to make him or those around him happy. Iverson is among the most talented losers of all time.
But there is an NBA team that will mainline this venom into its veins and then wonder, in six days or six weeks or six months, what the hell happened to its health.
If Iverson were a coach, which would give him the freedom to change addresses on a whim, he'd be Larry Brown, the restless and selfish head case who goes from team to team like a locust, getting what he can in terms of money and adulation and then moving on to the next town, leaving behind an emotionally empty husk.

If the Sac rumors are true, the SA E-N shows itself again to be on the cutting edge of NBA journalism.Quote:

I can't believe how lowball all those offers in the article are - I know Iverson's old, but he's probably got 3 years left at a high level.
Iverson for Gordon and a 1st rounder - do it in a heartbeat. They need a go-to guy and they're sinking without one.
Iverson for anyone on Boston - why not, they've been given time and gone nowhere.
Iverson for Foye and filler - of course! KG+Iverson - that could actually be scary, even with the terrible supporting cast - and it would keep KG with the Wolves for at least another season.
Was that article Stephen Screamer Smith? Thought so. :wtf
This is the most detailed Sac/Philly deal as of now...
Williamson, Bibby, Garcia, #1, and Hart for Iverson, Ollie, and Henderson (Henderson could be replaced, as this trade can not be completed until the 15th if he is involved).
The Bobcats have taken May off the table, effectively removing themselves. Apparantly Bickerstaff and Jordan are butting heads.
The Celtics are trying to work some sort of 3 way deal, but the Sixers are wary of dealing him withing their division.
The Sac deal looks like it's the ticket.
Thanks for the info.Quote:

Iverson+Kevin Martin+ Artest is kind of scary
Funny thing is, Emeka Okafor would probably be the best player Iverson's had on his team since he's entered the NBA. And with a couple of other high-percentage post scorers and Morrison and Wallace on the wings, that would probably become the best team in the East.Quote:

Iverson and Artest.

Believe what you want, bro. As of midnight last night, Bibby, Garcia, Williamson or Potapenko and a first for Iverson, Ollie, filler was on the table. That is the offer from the 76ers. The Kings brass made the choice to sleep on it.Quote:

THE ANSWER IS . . .
By PETER VECSEY
December 12, 2006 -- UNLIKE so much of what's being upchucked over the internet regarding Proposition Allen Iverson, much of it oozing from ESPN's thin air, no guess-work follows, only facts. Meaning, there's definitely a chance a legit-bidding team or two may escape mention (how's that for covering one's flanks!).
On the other hand, you can go to sleep knowing what you read below is real.
But first let's dismiss, hopefully for the last time, any fantasies about the Knicks obtaining Iverson in any kind of deal that does or doesn't include Chris Webber. They are not, I repeat, any kind of participant in this situation.
In fact, it wouldn't be surprising to learn Isiah Thomas is prohibited by Camp Cablevision boss James Dolan from cooking up any catastrophes that would cost the Knicks additional obligations past their current long-term luxury hole, or hamstring his eventual replacement any more than he'll be.
The Bobcats, flaunting $13-to-$14 millions in prized cap space, are attempting to play facilitator for the 76ers. Management adamantly refuses to part with a single one of its precious young bloods, even Brevin Knight. Despite getting sacked 15 of 20 times, the third-year expansion franchise wisely is preaching patience and, at the same time, is prepared to assume a salary for a season (not Iverson's, though) for the right compensation - solid player, draft pick, money or all of the above.
That's one option, a rather critical one, for Sixers president Billy King. It allows him to get several teams into the mix. That type of transaction, of course, could translate into Philly obtaining more attractive pieces than it can if only one team is involved.
"I don't know who's putting this stuff out there," a team executive groaned in exasperation. "But it all forces me to call Chris Mullin."
The Warriors are as active and aggressive in diving on Iverson's loose body as any team. Not to keep A.I. (and you thought Don Nelson was seriously about playing smallest) but to re-route his $49M, two-years-to-go debt along with at least one of their dead-weight contracts - Adonal Foyle, Troy Murphy or Mike Dunleavy. Jason Richardson is the guy King has coveted for some time. However, his surgically repaired knee is hurting (swollen) - and not only in the healing area.
In talk last summer, the 76ers approached the Clippers about Iverson for Corey Maggette and Shaun Livingston. That same trade is on the table. The thing is, Livingston is utterly untouchable along with Elton Brand and Chris Kaman. If you see their names mentioned in any scenario, you know the writer is source-less. Everybody else is available.
Keeping it out west, the Kings are offering Mike Bibby (who obviously is very appealing), I think. Would he really want to be united with his father, Henry, a Sixers assistant? Would he really want to be reunited with Webber? On the other hand, former Sixers John Salmons, Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williams celebrated their offensive freedom after distancing themselves from Iverson.
It's not clear whether he is more or less appealing because he owns an early-out after this season. It's hard to say whether the 76ers would be happy if he walked away from his two-year ($13.5M/$14.5M) pact or would want a guarantee from him that he'll honor it.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves remain in the hunt, if only to appease Kevin Garnett, who's clamoring to play with Iverson. Yes, Randy Foye is desirable. But it's decidedly doubtful the 76ers want anything to do with Minnesota's myriad bad contracts belonging to Marko Jaric, Troy Hudson, Mark Blount, Mark Madsen, Mike James and Trenton Hassell. The Sixers want to dump salary, not reproduce it. Ricky Davis is conceivable because he has but one year ($6.8M) left after this.
That leaves Indiana (offering Jamaal Tinsley and just about anyone except Jermaine O'Neal and Danny Granger) and Boston. Danny Ainge is determined to land himself an established veteran and Iverson is it. Paul Pierce is not available. Plenty of sacrificial Celtics are there for the 76ers' plucking, except Al Jefferson. It'd be stunning to think otherwise.
That screeching in the background is Jerry West beseeching outgoing (?) owner Michael Heisley for permission to enter the chase.
And I know people automatically dismiss Vescey but he broke this story in the first place.
I still say Bonner and Finley for AI. :lol
ok, ok....throw in Eric Williams. :p:
I think Bibby + K Martin in exchange for AI and AI Jefferson should be more fair deal. AI > Bibby and with AI, the ball will not be passed to KM.
If Iverson is the point guard then the Kings are in big trouble.Quote:

NBA's Kings Won't Trade for Allen Iverson, Owner Maloof Says
By Scott Soshnick
Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Remove the Sacramento Kings from the list of possible new teams for Allen Iverson, a former Most Valuable Player who has demanded a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers.
``We're staying away,'' Kings co-owner Joe Maloof said in a telephone interview. ``We're not going forward.''
The Kings were among a handful of teams that publicly disclosed an interest in the National Basketball Association's leading scorer when the 31-year-old guard's trade demand was made public last week.
Maloof didn't say why the Kings had changed their mind.
Iverson, a four-time NBA scoring champion, rejected a proposed trade that would have sent him to the Charlotte Bobcats, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Among the teams interested in Iverson are the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets, the newspaper said.
Iverson joined the 76ers as the first pick in the 1996 draft. He led Philadelphia to the NBA Finals in 2001, when the seven-time All-Star was named the league's MVP.

No one ever mentioned the reunion of Webber and Bibby if this deal would have went down.
Probably because the 76ers are trying to trade Webb as well
I'm hearing that Ainge finally cave in and is willing to offer Jefferson so Boston has a deal that Philly will accept. Now, everyone has to send in their offers topping it or Iverson goes to Boston.
Damn, Jefferson is awesome, I would probably take the Warriors deal, but Bostons is pretty great too
Jefferson, West, Telfair and Ratliff for Iverson is the offer, although Boston may swap out West for a #1. Philly won't get much better in combo of last year as well as young players.
Sac definitely out of it

:hungry: Mike Bibby would be a perfect fit for the Spurs :hungry:
Bibby plays no defense whatsoever, his shooting has been steadily declining over the last four years, and considering the offenses he's played in, has assist numbers only slightly better than Parker's.
Other than that, he's great.
Playoff Bibby > Playoff Parker
:lol you want to see the stat comparison from last years' series?
Parker 22.2 /4.7A/3.5R 51% 33% 89%
Bibby 16.7/5.2A/3.8R 35% 35% 90%

It sucks to be a Sixer fan cuz the probability of being screwed in a trade is too high. We're trading freaking Allen Iverson. This is a lose-lose situation.

What they're also saying in front-office circles: Iverson isn't thrilled about the prospect of relocating to Sacramento, either.
What I find myself saying whenever I hear such sentiments: How do players scare teams off so easily when almost no one in the NBA possesses a no-trade clause?
The Bobcats, let's face it, would be skittish about trading for A.I. even if he welcomed the move, given owner Bob Johnson's obvious comfort level with a roster that doesn't pay a single player more than $5.5 million. Although he badly wants to fill up his building and ranks as one of the league's most outspoken owners regarding the struggles of small-market teams, Johnson's hesitancy to sanction an Iverson deal doesn't surprise anyone. You can safely surmise that the little man's knack for selling tickets doesn't stand out to the Bobs as much the $39.8 million left on his contract after this season and Iverson's hard-to-handle history.
But here's the thing.
Iverson doesn't possess the ultimate hammer. NBA front-office sources confirmed Tuesday that his contract does not contain a no-trade clause.
In fact, as far as I know, the Lakers' Kobe Bryant is the only NBA player who has one.
Why?...
Maybe 3 years ago, not today.Quote:
