Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
I meant to have some serious inputs here
I have seen duncan come away from an entire game with five freaking rebounds at least 2 or 3 times, and a game or two with only 6 or 7....what the hell gives?
He should be averaging 15 rebounds per game on this team, what the hell gives???

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
People who haven't noticed this aren't exaclty paying attention. Duncan probably could be averaging close to 13 rpg. I've seen him several times NOT go for the ball. Other times, the ball bounces long and its up to the guards to get it. I think part of its the ball bouncing long more often than the old one and I think part of it is a lack of motivation to get the rebound on Duncan's part. He only gets aggressive at certain times in the game, at least that's how I interpret it.

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
The entire league is moving towards small ball. Whether you like it or not, almost every team has a small ball line-up they employ for at least some stretches during the game.
Small ball = either lots of lay-ups in transition and made buckets can't be rebounded, or long jumpers which lead to long rebounds for guards. Those things hurt Tim's defensive rebounding.
Tim's offensive rebounding are down a little bit. Duncan is shooting an extremely high percentage so far, so not as many tips on his own shot. And, with Tony playing well and getting to the basket for easy makes, also fewer offensive rebounds to be had because of that.
-
Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
One of the Spurs better small-ball lineups was with 6'6"-ish Malik Rose...especially versus the Mavs.
The Spurs weren't too shabby on the rebounding with Malik and Timmy out there.

That's what I thought he meant by starting the thread too.
So I will point out that the Spurs have had a lot of blowouts in December, which means Duncan has sat in 4th quarter and hasn't had to rebound.

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
I dont understand how spurs moving to small ball makes duncan average less rebounds if he is leagues ahead of everyone else on the floor in terms of rebounding ability.
Even the 11.2 rebounds he averaged in november are low for a Duncan...he should be getting 2004 Garnett-esque rebound numbers.
-
Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
It's been bothering me for some time too..I know a few years back, we made the argument that he doesn't need to dominate the boards - he shares the ball with his teammates (unlike KG).

SHUT. UP.
Duncan is in the top 10 in the league in rebounding. You're not happy with that? That's not good enough for you? You're a fool and you don't deserve to have Tim Duncan on a team you root for.

Eh.. Duncan plays 34 mpg. Garnett played 40 mpg in those years and averaged 13-14 boards. It's not drastically different.

I could give a shit if he is number 1 but if he is averaging less than 12 for the season and he is the best rebounder on our team that is not enough to win against good teams consistently (like in a playoff).

I know that, but I was saying he should be getting those 13-14 with these small lineups...if he wearing himself out with all the running or what

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
11/29 against Utah, he had 10 rebounds in 38 minutes, was outrebounded by both harpring and boozer, and we lost hte rebound margin by 7, and lost the game by 8.
On 12/2 against Sactown he had 11 rebounds in 37 minutes.
Brad Miller had 10 in like 20 minutes, and we won the rebound margin by 1. We won that game by 2 points.
Lets not forget the dallas game in november either....
39 minutes of play got us SIX rebounds

Brad Miller is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. Duncan is averaging over 10 per game. You didn't do well in math, did you?

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
Don't be a fucking moron im not saying brad miller is better than duncan im saying in that game, on that night, he was about as effective as duncan on the boards.
Damn are you foreign or what
I'm just wondering what is Duncan's deal...he was on a tear for a while in late november but in the last few close games we've had he has not been rebounding Duncanesque

Yes, I am a foreigner. I come from a country where people can understand basic math and statistics. You come from a land where people have shit for brains and can't seem to understand that if:
1. a player ranks in the top 10 in a statistical category
2.is averaging pretty much the same amount of rebounds per minute as he has EVERY year
then to say he is not rebounding well anymore is to reiterate your idiocy. It's okay to make a mistake, but to continue to insist on an opinion when the facts are against you is just obtuse and pathetic.
Please go find another team to root for.
-
Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
Yeah well if they taught you statistics you'd also know an average of 12 can be from 10 nights having 12 or be a set of data that is highly deviated, duncan this year, so far, is the latter case
if you can't understand that then go back to espn and jerk off to top 10 statistical category pages cuz on this forum, and to me, that doesn't mean shit
HE HAD SIX REBOUNDS IN THE MAVERICKS GAME
i guess according to your logic if that six rebound game doesn't skew his 12 rebound average, then its no big deal!! Hey, I just got outrebounded by Dirk Nowitizki, but its cool, my average is still 12!

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
There is a bit of a relationship with team rebounding and Opp. FG % in the Tim Duncan era. The lower the Opp. FG% has been, typically, the higher the rebounds for Tim and the Spurs. The Opp. FG% isn't in the .420s or less like it has been in Championship seasons. Spurs are way up there allowing .449 this year. Team and Tim's rebounds are down a bit, accordingly.

You graduated from the Vince Young School of Math, didn't you? I thought so...

Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
After watching Dallas smoke us on on the offensive glass last year, I can't believe people are blowing off this problem.
I guess you guys don't want to win another title...
-
Re: Why doesn't Duncan rebound anymore?
Exactly
some are making it sound like im just starting a thread to scoff my favorite nba player
Solid D brought up a good point....maybe when the defense improves further he'll get more rebounds..

Allowing .449 isn't a problem?

Maybe when you get a clue you'll post something that actually has some relationship to reality.

Dude you can post like a 12 year old whose favorite player just got insulted or you can post like an adult who just read "Duncan got outrebounded by Dirk Nowitzki". You still haven't even addressed that, but i guess if his average stays at 12, it really doesn't matter, right!?
