Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
Nazr turned out to be a big scrub. I really liked him in the 05 playoffs, but after that, he was a complete waste.

His 05 playoff success is blown out of proportion. He averaged like 7 and 5.

From a strictly financial viewpoint, Fab-Fran makes better sense.
Skill wise, Rasho/Nazi were better interior defenders, but Fab-Fran are better passers (Fab) and more athletic (Fran).
Pretty much a wash on the court at this stage in the season. I don't see either of them winning games or costing us games so far.

Did someone just try to pimp Nazr's defense?

I hope Elson/Oberto can end up averaging more than that.
Nazr/Rasho averaged 11 and 9 here last (regular) season and the Spurs a little more than that.

Doesn't matter. I'm not talking about his stats.
He actually had a presence on the court. He dunked on people. He hustled more, tried to get a lot of offensive boards, and was more aggressive.

He did that for just a few games of the playoffs. He's like Speedy Claxton, people remember a couple games and pretend in their heads that was the norm.

True. Hopefully they will actually play in the postseason, and that will be where they surpass Rasho/Nazr's contributions.

That is what I was thinking. Like we didn't have a few other players who knew a little bit about defense.

Whatever.
He pooped on Denver, that's all I care about.

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
if they can poop on dallas in the playoffs this year
they are both greater then nash and rasho!

Nash???
I know the names can get confusing every once in a while, but how can one confuse Steve Nash with Nazr Mohammed?
-
Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
here's to more pooping on opponents!

Opponents driving the lane in 2005 and finding Nazr and Duncan instead of Duncan and smallballer. Which was more effective?
Also timely shots blocked, even if only a *few* games, helped tremendously in winning those *few* games and series. Ya know, the 4 series the Spurs were in?
4 better then 2. That's what i be pimpin. :hat

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
Thanks for the research. It's interesting to see the statistical comparison. Since both sets were/are screen-setters and rebounders in their Spurs' roles, it's tough to use pure stats to see their team values.

Actually they found Duncan. Nazr was standing 10 feet away studying his playbook flash cards.

I wonder what the turnover comparison would be? Rasho was OK I'm guessing, but NAZR sucked?
And I don't suppose there's a category for having dunk shot blocked after three pump fakes. :wakeup

Not unless there is a category for most passes from slashing guards 3 feet from the basket that were brink-handed out of bounds.

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
BTW, to me the most accurate comparaison is between 2005-2006 Rasho/Nazr and 2006-2007 Elson/Oberto.
Elson/Oberto: 38.6 mpg
Rasho/Nazr: 36.3 mpg
Elson/Oberto: 11.2 ppg
Rasho/Nazr: 10.7 ppg
Elson/Oberto:10.5 rpg
Rasho/Nazr: 9.1 rpg

Rasho/Nazr: 50.9% FG
Elson/Oberto: 78.0% FT
Rasho/Nazr: 75.2% FT
Elson/Oberto: 0.79 steals
Rasho/Nazr: 0.52 steals
Elson/Oberto: 1.17 blocks
Rasho/Nazr: 1.71 blocks
Elson/Oberto: 2.15 TO
Rasho/Nazr: 1.80 TO
Elson/Oberto: 5.7 PF
Rasho/Nazr: 5.4 PF

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
Nazr and Rasho never really played the playoffs together. Saying that the comparison becomes senseless.
Nazr played no defense, grabbed RBs he needn't, and ignored teamplay.
Rasho understood his role, played defense while no offense was given to him since he displayed no passion.
They together were hardly the two-headed monster Nazr said they were.
Elson/Oberto played a preseason together, team was working intensely on fitting the pieces and are awesome. I have a great feeling about them. But none of them can do what Rasho does, and Pop was great to notice, the team doesn't need that heavy defense presence in the West anymore.

I totally agree on the Nazr comment. Nazr was good for two or three games in the playoffs but was scrubbish in a few games too. However, Speedy was consistently good for the Spurs. If Speedy wouldn't have gotten hurt he might have taken the starting role from Tony.
Nevertheless, Speedy is an excellent "backup" point guard.

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
I've now seen three different sets of figures on blocks per game.
"Elson/Oberto: 1.17 blocks
Rasho/Nazr: 1.71 blocks"
"you forgot about D...
Elson/Oberto: 1.1 bpg
Rasho/Nazr: 3.1 bpg "
"Rasho/Nazr : 2.3 bpg"
Come on guys, get your shit together. Not that one category would make any difference. The stats thus far aren't conclusive, but lean to the new tandem.
I like the new tandem. They give us different things, but on the whole I think they will work out better and at a price that gives us more flexibility.

2.3 is the average number of blocks for 2006-07 Rasho/Nazr, which is what the original poster is comparing. (2.33 if you want to be exact)
In the first set of numbers as he says in the post, Bruno is comparing 2005-2006 Rasho/Nazr and 2006-2007 Elson/Oberto.
I do not not know where the 3.1 stat came from.

ups i checked again... :nerd seems i made a sum of wrong figures.
but refering to champion 04/05 season, they combined for 2.7 (Rasho1.7 and Nazr 1.1).
and for 05/06 its combined 1.7bpg (rasho 1.1, Nazr 0.6)

Re: Elson/Oberto vs. Rasho/Nazr
