Angel is there right now and she's got me on speakerphone so that I can listen in! :)
That's really cute! :)Quote:

I spoke briefly to my regional boss ( Ingram and Rolling Oaks are sister malls) and another associate before the event began. My associate laughed when she saw me, saying she knew I would come. My Spurs fan reputation is apparently well established. :)
I told my associate about how I had Misti the " Robert Horry Fan" on speaker phone and she cracked up.
The Robert Horry session was a lot of fun. Rob is a really personable and funny guy.
Big Kevin, the new Crazy Lou, did a nice job hosting the event. There was probably about 150 people around the stage and another several hundred watching from the level above.
Two Silver dancers and the Coyote were also present. The Coyote was up to his usual antics.
A little into the interview Robert spontaneously led everyone in "Jingle Bells" to get us into the Christmas spirit.
Here are some of the information highlights.
* Rob said some of his early favorite gifts were: 1) Green Machine 2) Go Cart 3) Atari- he liked the game Pitfall. 4) Also a bebe gun ( spelling? Sorry. I am such a girl!) that his grandfather would give him every Christmas to replace the one he had used up the previous year shooting cans.
* He loved baseball as a kid- played pitcher, center field and I believe first base.
* He wanted to go to Gerorgia Tech for college because he wanted to go to a basketball school. Alabama was Rob's mom's choice. He said she won. :lol
* His favorite college football team is Alabama.
* Likes RB, rap, and hip hop for music. Rob said though that his son makes him listen to the disney radio station so Rob knows all those songs. :lol
* Talked about how he used to wear the # 25 and how when he wears it again, that is how fans will know it is his last year. He said, " I came in wearing # 25 and I want to go out wearing number 25."
* Rob says the rumors about him retiring after this year are untrue. He wants to play three more years- all of them for the Spurs.
Kevin asked about the team plane. Rob said all the guys have PSP and they all link up and play poker. Everyone puts in 20 bucks and I guess winner takes all.
Bruce, whom Rob called his seat mate, doesn't play- just reads or sleeps.
Rob said that Jacque Vaughn is a regular winner. Rob and Timmy are other winners.
Rob's favorite movies: 1) Face Off 2) Dust to Dawn ( he said because of Selma Hayek.) and 3) The Departed.
His favorite actress: Rosalin Sanchez.
Favorite Actor: Robert, with no hesitation, " Will Smith." Everyone laughed really hard at that- including Robert. Then he answered for real," Denzel Washington. I love his strut... that walk he's got."
Pre game rituals:
1) He eats pasta ( no typo) with honey. This started back in college. Robert tried it and then scored thirty something points in the game that night. He did this for the next two games with the same results.
Then the fourth game he didn't have any honey and he only scored twelve. Now he always eats honey before games.
2) He runs and jumps on the rim during warm ups.
* Robert says ten years from now he wants to coach either college level or high school. He says he wants to coach kids that age because he feels he can be a bigger influence in their lives- i.e. help them develop and get to where they want to go professionally.
* Strongest influence: His mother. Robert says to him a mentor is someone who you spend time with and are able to interact with,
Horry's mom was ( is?) a teacher. Robert considered being one as well before he got good at basketball.
Favorite team mate: Robert said he always thought the whole " Spurs are a great group of guys" reputation was just talk until he became a team member and saw how it is true.
Says he likes to hang out with Manu and Oberto. " I don't know what they said but it sounds great." :lol
Who does Rob like playing against: Houston, Utah and Dallas. He emphasied Dallas saying, " I like to beat them because they talk too much." To the crowd:" Don't they talk to much?" :lol
Rob says he likes to go to Dave and Busters also likes going home to play video games after practice.
What is a must have for the rodeo road trip: Rob: " A tote bag" ( Apparently their hotels sometimes lack needed tolietries like mouthwash or body wash. 4 star, what! :lol)
Another must have: Robert " I have to have all the right clothes. It's not like I am short like Tony and can buy off the rack." :lol
Where does Robert like to play: Atlanta because his family comes; Miami because it is hot and humid. Robert: " It keeps guys of my age nice and warm."
Doesn't like being called Bob because his father is Bob and Rob is Rob.
Robert: " I'm like green eggs and ham. I don't like Bob."
He said, " I don't like Big Shot... just call me Rob." Then after thinking for a minute, added " It's not a bad nickname ( supposedly he has had some). If you want to call me that, go ahead."
The Big Shot in Detroit according to Rob:
( I can't do this perfect justice but you'll get the idea.) Robert walked us through the play: Robert: " Of course I'm not an option. ( Laughs). I'm supposed to inbound the ball to Manu while Tim sets the pick. I was supposed to go to the other side out of the way. ( Laughs again)
So I threw the ball in to Manu- it was sort of a bad pass..."
Here he talked about the Championship DVD- apparently Pop told Rob " if you get it. let it fly." I don't remember that part.
Continues: " Rasheed left me open and I thought " Oh, he left me! Does he not know I just hit three in a row." :lol
And as we all know the rest is history. :)
Favorite basketball player of all time: Magic Johnson. He also liked Scottie he said.
Likes to get a pretzel whenever he is at the mall but is trying to quit that.
Rob mentioned food several times- he seems to be a big fan of it. :lol
If he could have dinner with anyone of his choice dead or alive: He'd pick Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx.
Pets: Loves them but has none because he doesn't have time to care for it.
Growing up he had a dog named Prissy. He made clear he didn't name the dog- seemed anxious to clear that up.
Talked about when he first came to San Antonio: He went to Champs to get something to eat and it was karoke night. Said about five patrons came up to his table and asked, " Do I know you? " Then when they realized who Rob was they said, " You're the Spurs killer."
Rob to them: " No, I'm not. I'm a Spur now."
Patrons: " No you're a laker. I hate you."
This was his first interaction with Spurs fans.
Rob said that when he had that bad performance in the play off series against the Lakers that people accused him of being a spy for L.A. They would come up and say to him, " You wanted the Lakers to win, didn't you!" :lol
Rob said he is very appreciative of how the fans now accept him with open arms.
He was asked about his most embarrassing game moment. Rob said it almost happened a few weeks ago- on Silver Saturday when the guys wore their retro uniforms.
Rob said that the string of his shorts broke and because the fabric was slick, his shorts started to fall off as he was running a play.
He grabbed his shorts to keep them on. Apparently the coaches all saw what happened and were laughing at him on the sidelines.
Robert is like, " No way am I running a play with my pants coming off" so he passes the ball to Manu and stands around until they call timeout. :lol
Asked about who of his team mates is the worst prankster: Rob said a couple of years ago the team was on the road and had a meeting. Rob had his cell phone when he went into the mtg ( I think he said it was in his pocket) but was missing it when the session was dismissed.
Rob said he was looking for his phone ( I guess in his hotel room) when he got a phone call. Someone in a gruff voice said " If you want your phone back leave $200 dollars at X location."
To this day Rob doesn't know who it was that took his phone. He thinks it was either Malik or Manu. Rob said now that Malik is gone, Manu is the biggest prank player.
That was the end of the session: Rob thanked everyone for coming out. Told us to be safe and enjoy the holiday with our family."
FYI, Rolling Oaks Mall is hosting our annual Spurs appearance this Thursday the 21st at 6:30 pm.

I am not sure which Spur is coming.
However, my supervisor at Rolling called me randomly a few weeks ago and asked me to name some favorite Spurs. I said Beno and Manu- the first two who came to mind.
When I asked my supervisor why she wanted to know, I was told that she was putting in our player request form and wanted to know whom to ask for.
I wanted to follow up about it today but we were all slammed from open to close.
Hopefully I will learn details tomorrow.
He wants to play three more years?
I'll take the under on that.
Nice job, angel.
