Kobe thinking of going solo
Grizzlies blow out Lakers for first win
The Associated Press
...
Kobe Bryant had 20 points on 4-for-19 shooting for the Lakers, who shot 37 percent.
"It was a tough night for us as a unit," Bryant said. "I can go off solo and get 50 or 60 points on these guys, but that doesn't mean we're going to win."
Yeah on a 12-for-60 shooting. And the La took 76 shoots in that game. What a funny guy. :lol

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Sums up everything you need to know about Kobe.
Think about it: probably no other player in NBA history has every said that. Not Wilt, not MJ, not Oscar. Only Kobe goes into a game every night thinking about how he could score 50 or 60 points if he wanted to.

Jordan in fact said nearly the exact same thing in 1998 before a Hawks-Bulls game. http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba.../atlhawks.html
Nice (pathetic) try though. :lol

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
I just checked the link but couldn't find that reference ???
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Jordan was a selfish asshole too, what is your point?
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Why even post that link? There is no statement from Jordan in there.
In fact, here is the link to the game you you might be mentioning:
http://www.augustachronicle.com/stor...po_hawks.shtml
Jordan is gracious with all of his remarks.
Here are some examples:
1.) ``The fans here have given me a lot of respect, and I'll always treasure that,'' Jordan said.
2.) ``I have good memories of playing in Atlanta,'' Jordan said. ``It's the South, and it's close to home. I had good memories of playing college ball (for North Carolina) here. We've won some playoff games and series here. I've hit some (a few) last-second shots to win games here, but I missed one the last time I was here (Atlanta's 80-78 win on Nov. 7).''
Nice (Pathetic) try though! :lol

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Well maybe Jordan said things like that BECAUSE HE LED A TEAM BY HIMSELF TO A TITLE.
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
The team is inconsistent...hell Lebron has better numbers than Kobe right now...the team is 3-3 and have been blown out for 3 and won by huge margins in the other games...It's a learning process, I still believe they'll make the playoffs. It's a funny year, that's for sure.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Kobey always wanted to be like Jordan. He walks like him, he chews gum like him, I've even seen him stick out his tongue like him when driving to the basket. One thing Kobey can never be like Jordan is: Jordan didn't feel the need to remind himself or anyone that he could pour in 50 or 60 points on a team. I think he knew that, but he never said it. He let his playing do the talking on the court along with getting his teammates involved in the game. If his game wasn't up to par that night, he played D, and did the "other" little things that go unoticed in a game. Kobey? It's all about him!! He wanted Shaq out! He's out! Phil Jackson? He's out! If Kobey is not having a good night he tends to blame his teammates and becomes unraveled. Jordan was gracious in defeat, Kobey is not. I'm not saying Jordan was an angel................., but I don't think Jordan ever raped anyone!

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Keep it up Fuzz Balls...Its easy to talk smack when the Lakers are without 3 starters...Just wait till Vlade is back to restore order!

Jordan still gets all the tail he wants, too.
No criminal charges.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
On 4-19 shooting, how many shots does Kobe think it'll take to get to 60 points? 60 shots?
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Kobe is not Jordan...but look at the early years when the bulls sucked a big pipe and they were losing, Jordan led the L in scoring, but they never made the playoffs. He's just frustrated, but that's ok....no one likes losing.
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
If Jordan had Shaq they would win every title every year. And Jordan would still be playing to this day.
-
Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
I bet Kobe wishes he had thought of "going solo" one night in the summer of '03.
(Ok, someone had to write it.)

Well, if you read the court transcripts, you would have seen that he did after she left. That was the really funny thing about that whole deal.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Don't even utter the word Jordan in a sentence with this punk.

Jordan made the playoffs every year as a Bull.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
I stand corrected..the bulls did make the playoffs every year with Jordan, even after he was injured...still they were below .500 in the early years and bowed out of the playoffs early...However, seeing Jordan play, I won't be naive to say that Kobe is better. It's still very early in his career though.

Early in his career? This is Kobe's 9th year in the NBA. He's 26 years old and when Jordan was 26, he was leading the Bulls to the ECFs vs Detroit, and guys like Pippen and Grant weren't even in their primes yet. While those '86 and '87 Bulls teams were below .500 and getting swept by the Celtics in the first round, Jordan still shot well in the high 40s, and didn't benefit from having a dominant big man like Kobe has for his first 8 years. Kobe right now is shooting 38% from the field. He's playing like he's a taller, 6'7 version of Iverson.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
yeah the thing is though, that Kobe Bryant doesnt have the huevos to be compared to MJ, tell me how many GM's would say, he goes all out for the team and his aroggance doesnt hurt the team either.
It just doesnt happen, his airness was extremley narcisitic, however his team won games, they played hard, he played just as hard on defense as offense and he would never allow his pride to hurt his team.
after 9 seasons we have seen all kobe has to offer, ten years in the league establish a player's limits, he has reached all of his.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
The guy wants the spotlight, wants the attention, wants the glory. All to himself. Maybe at the end of the season, after 45 wins and a sharp bounce pass out of the playoffs, he'll eat some humble pie and realize that this is a team sport. Is he so freakin' arrogant that he couldn't look across the court in the Finals at those boys from Detroit and see how it's supposed to be done?
Anyone dumb enough to think that it will be easier to win a title without the Diesel than with him deserves everything he gets. And any Laker fan that agrees with Kobe wanting Shaq and Phil Jackson out of town is a fool. The rest of them I feel bad for, and I hope an answer comes soon. For me, it's more fun to despise the Lakers than it is to pity them. Also, for what it's worth, whoever said Kobe was a 6'7 version of AI was right on the money.
Kobe is a great individual player, don't get me wrong. But we've learned over the past decade is that you need more than that to win a title. Maybe someone can slip a few of those Laker championship DVD's under his hotel door sometime and hope the guy can see the light. I doubt it, and I think the league is a lot more fun with a dominant Laker squad than a mediocre one.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Kobe won 3 rings....he was pretty much equal to Shaq during their playoff runs. Has he reached his potential...maybe in averages, but not in effectiveness....Jordan's numbers dropped in the mid 90's but they still won. Kobe's still young, and you need help to win the L. No one has done this without help. 6'7 Iverson...please, 6 games in and he's shooting 38%....look at his shot attempts and ptns/game...Iverson...whatever. Also, throughout his career he's average 45%. I guess 6 games defines your whole career. Also, when Shaq struggled during the Spurs series, Kobe handed you guys your ass numerous times...this is getting ridicolous. If you read the interview when Kobe was saying he can go off for 50 or 60...the point he was trying to make was that he know that's not the answer to winning...read between the lines.

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
Medevenko, one question. It's true Kobe's stats were gaudier than Shaq's the last TWO years in the playoffs, for starters. I'll admit that.
Convieniently enough, Shaq's first season in LA was Kobe's rookie year, so he's never played without him (and to be fair, vice versa in LA).
Is your team better off having a starting lineup of:
(a) Cedric Ceballos, Nick van Exel, Elden Campbell, Vlade Divac, and Eddie Jones?
or
(b) Kobe Bryant, Caron Butler, Lamar Odom, Chris Mihm, and Chucky Atkins?
If your answer is b, remember that the 95-96 Laker team listed as (a) went 53-29, and there's no way in hell this team is.

if Kobe was equal to Shaq then why does Shaq have all the MVPs? Jordan's scoring numbers dropped? What from 37 ppg in 1987 to 30 ppg from 96-98? Is Kobe averaging that now? He only had one season (2003) where he averaged over 30 ppg. so Kobe shot 45%, and that was WITH Shaq, meaning he got a lot of one-on-one coverage. He never faced the double and triple coverage that Jordan faced every night since 1985. Jordan shot 51% from the field for his career in all of his years with the Bulls, and he never had a dominant big man to demand double teams like Kobe had with Shaq. Hell a 40yr old Jordan with the Wizards in his last year shot 45%. You make it seem like that's some big accomplishment. Jordan won his first MVP in 1988 when he was 25 years old. Let me know when Kobe wins his first, ok? After 9 years in the NBA, Jordan LED his team to 3 rings winning 3 FINALS MVPs and also winning the reg season MVPs in 91 and 92, during that stretch. So Kobe has 3 rings, but who led their team to the title? Heck, who was the leading scorer of the Lakers from 2000-02? The last 2 seasons, Kobe has led the Lakers in scoring and what happened to the Lakers in the postseason those years?

Re: Kobe thinking of going solo
There was an article in SI the mag this month about Kobe and the Lakers. It's fairly interesting. I would post it, but when I drag my mouse over the magazine it just won't copy it. Hmmmm?
