do people think tp will still have his break out year
I know he seems to be trying to hard right now
I thought he would play better then last year
he is bigger and should finish better then last year
he seems pressing some
I was just wondering if anyone has changed their mind yet here.
or should we just wait tell after 15 games and see if the new improved tp will show up then?

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Around 20-25 games. I'm guessing that's when he'll find his stroke and produce more. Right now Manu's shining, Rasho's scoring. We got Brent taking up some shots. Duncan needs his 20 attempts. This game Bowen was on fire. So TP hasn't had a game where it was just about him.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
I don't think you can judge a season after six games.
I think Tony will average close to 17/7.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
dude royal ivey was guarding him what do you expect
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Break out year? he's what? 5 years away from his prime?
TP will be fine. I'm happy with the way he is driving and passing and doesn't seem to mind that manu is scoring more points. TP will wind up scoring 15 a night; he needs to get passed the "I need to prove I'm worth 66 mil", then he'll be fine.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
I see Tony hitting around 15 and 5 for the year.
Solid stats, but a far cry from an All Star as many on this message board continue to prop him up to be.

He will be lucky to average 15 pts and 5 assists. I think they should look into a trade while they still can get someone good for him. I think the Spurs should try to work a deal for Marbury. Marbury would love to come here and the Knicks should be looking for someone that can grow up with them, as they are rebuilding this year.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
and marbarry woudl be lucky to average that with the spurs
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Tony averaged 14.5/5.5 last season. Why do you think he won't do at least the same this year?
Also, Tony barely makes any money -- so the Spurs aren't going to trade him now -- they wouldn't get anything in return.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
maybe we could trade him for royal ivey
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
TP should get around 16ppg 7apg. I'd be happy with that as long as he scores efficiently. To do that, he needs to hit his three a bit more reliably while getting to the line and making more free throws at a high %.
Eventually his drives will be converted. It will all come down to his court sense, scoring efficiency, and combining both consistently.
He should pick it up soon. He does seem to be pressing a bit, with the exception of the LA and Miami games.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
maybe we should keep him since duncan wants him here because he went to bat for him on his contract not to many days ago

The reason is, Manu and Barry will be taking up TP's score slack. Parker has almost no confidence and unless Pop tells him to continue shooting even if he is barely shooting 30%, I can not see him average what he did last year.
Why can't they trade him and another Spur for Marbury or someone close to that calibre? I know they won't, but I seriously do not have any confidence in Parker getting much better than he already is. Maybe I am wrong, hope I am, but so far, he has shown nothing at all this year.

Nikos, you mean shoot 3's better than 10%?

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
I don't know why people think Parker has a confidence problem. He isn't unconfident at all. He's just pressing a little. It's six games.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
This Steve Francis love affair has gone too far. Please tell me we aren't going to have to listen to this the whole season.

Well, I will give you the benefit of the doubt since you are on the inside, but daaaamn, he just sucks so far. His shots are not even close, has he even come close to making a 3 the past 4 games?

I'm certainly not for trading Parker, but if you hope that he is traded, tell me this: What other players would you want the Spurs to include in order to match salaries? Marbury makes several times more than Parker. Who else are you willing to part with?

I will stop when every one of you in here all see the light and agree that Francis is an allstar and is better than Parker. Or if Steve stops playing like an all star, which he won't.:)

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
For sucking so much, he was still averaging nearly 14/5 before tonight.

Pooh's Pacer rants make more sense.

I have no idea who makes what, as I am not that much of a fan that knows every player's salary. It probably can not happen, but if we had Stephon instead of Parker, the Spurs can win the championship for the next 6 yrs without breaking a sweat.

Pooh is a world renowned author, I am just a working stiff, what do I know?

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Jimcs50 must not have watched the Olympics. Marbury isn't a true point guard ... he's a shooting guard in a point guards body.
Just like Steve Francis.

It seems like 9/2 to me.

Well, you are talking semantics here....Marbury is a sure fire 9+ assits man every year, and unless I am mistaken, I think that in a nutshell is what you want your PG to do, dish out passes for baskets, yes?
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
And, timvp, you do not agree that the Spurs would be unbeatable with Marbury and Manu in our backcourt every May?
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Marbury doesn't create shots. He'll rack up assists because he's playing in a point guard dominated offense.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Pardon the interruption, but....

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Marbury makes $15M a year.
So you could trade Parker, Manu and Malik and it wouldn't be enough.

That's the problem then. You're just babbling about what you don't know anything about. At least come up with something that is possible if you want to trade TP.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Yeah that was kind of my point. Jim thinks we should trade TP now! This is the worst time to trade him -- at least next year he has value.

Nah, I do not want to trade him. I do not think I could live w/o hearing Parker talking about TD in his own endearing accent, "Team was really helping us tonight, Team this Team that." :spin
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
It's early this season to judge Parker. With Manu rising and Barry hitting, TP just needs to coordinate between the team's scorers, and keep his teardrop warm. Starting off 4-1 is pretty good for the Spurs.
-
Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Define break out season?
Break out season to me means:
Coming to the realization his role on this team is best served as a pass first point guard; a realization that Duncan and Manu are option one and two; realizing that he should use his court vision and penetration skills to try and setup his teammates and take advantage of a defense when it doesn't collapse on him with a floater. Break out season means understanding 100% where each one of his teammates, even those coming off the bench, like to get the ball at and where on the court they are most effective when they receive the ball. Breakout means taking advantage of his speed to increase fast break opportunities; breakout means being the type of player that makes the other players better; breakout means perfecting the pic n roll with tim. Breakout doesn't mean 17/7; breakout doesn't mean 15/5.
Breakout may mean 7/12, 8/10, 12/9, 6/13.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
I say 14/8.5 would be a great season.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Steve Francis winning a game worth something would give him a break out year.

Re: do people think tp will still have his break out year
Spurs are 4 and 1. Yeah, lets trade people.
STFU.

TPark, allstars do not need a breakout year...they obviously already had it. What a total idiot. :rolleyes
