SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Here is my assessment of the season so far. I guess a report card with no numerical value. The Spurs are doing great: 6 and 1
Brent Barry-Excellent pickup, learning how to be a Spur, excellent defender, starts off slow, however, not afraid to shoot it and bust some ass.
Bruce Bowen-Typical ass kicking Bowen. One of my favorite players.
Devin Brown-Homie from WC. Can't complain, wish he could play more, however, understand that the golden boy Manu and Barry are ahead of him.
Tim Duncan-Dude is awesome, needs to take care of his body and pace himself til the playoffs.
Manu Ginobili-Incredible, however, ease up on the hot dog passes and just take it to the rack yourself. Unselfishness is not always a good thing when you are one of the best offensive players on the team.
Robert Horry-Dude comes up big when needed. Great put back last night. Kick ass.
Tony Massenburg-Typical serviceable journey bigman. Maybe he should start at center.
Rasho Nesterovic-Can Rasho dunk? Dude is one of the biggest wusses that I have ever seen play center, but since the Spurs are 6-1, I will give him credit for putting his shoes on the right foot. I can't wait for the day for this guy to leave the Spurs. I know he will screw it up if allowed to play in the playoffs. Dwayne Schintzius is better than Rasho even after retirement, jail or wherever he is.
Tony Parker-Dude needs to simma down a bit, but I understand the philosophy of just driving the ball down the other team's throats. Playing great, would like to see increase in scoring average though.
Malik Rose-I am very impressed with him this year, especially last night. I just wish he was taller and could start at center.
Beno Udrih-Beno sucks. Now understand where I am coming from, if Parker was to go out injured tomorrow, do you want Beno as a pg? HELL NO. Dude needs to watch Steve Kerr films. Sit and wait for the pitch out and make a career of draining threes. He damn near got decapitated last night and imo it was justified. Welcome to the NBA. I don't understand how Popovich can justify another young point guard on a team that really needs stability at that position. If Barry is a point guard as well, then play him and give Devin the minutes. I have no interest in watching an unknown point guard run a team that has won 2 championships here in San Antonio. I would rather see a veteran backup Parker. No offense. Beno can go play for a lottery team.
Mike Wilks-Who?

Fuck yeah I'm a "homer." Now recognize that the kid is all of 22 and probably can't speak enough Ingles to order his ass a Big Mac. He's impressed those who actually pay attention to the game.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Fair comments by Sequ. A little hard on Beno, but he brings up the viable option of moving Barry to backup PG to give more time to Devin.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
C'mon Sequ: Barry an "excellent defender"? If you really believe that, you need another telephone book in your chair.
Otherwis, I mostly agree. But I'm a little confused as to how you really feel about Rasho.

So Udrih isn't a 10 year vet. No fucking shit. If you'd pay attention you'd know the kid has shown he has the talent. If this team could deal with a 19 year old Frenchman as its starting point it sure as hell can survive with a 22 year old Slovene with a few years of Euro experience as a backup. In case you weren't paying attention the kid has shown he knows how to ball. Fuck it, on the ignore list you go.

I don't know if that is a justifiable assessment at this point, Beno hasn't been incredible so far by any means, but he certainly hasn't sucked. I could'nt be more satisfied with a 27th 1st round pick. Give him a bit of an adjustment period to figure out what he doing out there and what his coach and teammates need him to do. I think he'll be just fine. Especially since, like you said, he is not the ONLY back up pg.

I agree with you here, Rasho Nesterovich needs to become Macho Nesterovich.

dumbass.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Typical responses from tpark and Marcus.
More concerned about beating lottery teams before Christmas than the overall picture of winning a championship.
I do not wish to see BENO play in any playoff game. And if I recall, Tony Parker has a reputation of taking early vacations in the playoffs. Maybe that'll change this year, but it would be nice to have a real NBA backup rather than a potential "Euro leaguer" for the top team in the NBA.
Let Beno flourish at some local jr. college or the YMCA league.

Like who? Bro, that is Pop's job. My job is to sit back, critique, overanalyze, underanalyze, clap, yell, and bitch. Don't you get that? Don't make me pull up the entire list of NBA point guards who can stand at the 3 point line and hit a wide open jump shot playing along side Tim Duncan.
Don't be an idiot. A young Euro point guard who has NO NBA or big game experience playing on a NBA CHAMPIONSHIP level team is not a good thing.
I am all for seeing him develop on the IR, but please get this kid off the court.

in other words, all your gonna do is bitch and complain, but cant back it up with anything other than,
well, hes bad, and we could do better.
Shut it already.
Beno Udrih has started slow, but is showing signs that hes gonna be a good player.
I think your analysis on Beno Udrih is way off, and hell prove you wrong, identically just how Manu Ginobili, and Stephen Jackson did.
your analysis on Rasho is just more of the scratched record drivel you like to spout.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Rasho's past record is worse than John Kerry's past record. Dude has done nothing in the playoffs. How many games does it take? How many eliminations can you handle? How many times must you wear a Hedo jersey?
I don't want a 22 y/o Euro with no College or NBA experience playing any minutes for the SAN ANTONIO SPURS. What's wrong with that? It's just like saying I don't want a Orthopedic Surgeon operating on my heart. Its all about experience.
Bro, there are 200+ PGs in the NBA and CBA that could hit a wide open jumper, big deal. Dude is to small, to fragile and can't play defense. Dude is going to get used.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Sequ,
I'll try to answer you regarding Beno. Before the season began, the Spurs' plan was to give Beno a shot at the backup minutes and if he didn't do what they wanted over a period of time, then Brent would get those backup minutes, thus giving Devin some more minutes of Brent's.
But they are going to give Beno a fair shake before setting the rotations for the season. It's 7 games in right now. So far, the Spurs like that he's poised on the court and is smart. His teammates also like his passing and where he's delivering them the ball. He has a killer mid-range jump shot, that hasn't even been really on display yet. He has also knocked down clutch 3's at crucial spots in game (go watch a tape of Spurs-Hawks). It's seven game in, so you can't really expect much more at this point.
But believe me, if he's not cutting it after a period of time, then your plan of giving Barry his minutes and Devin some of Barry's minutes will happen.
But simmer down and wait.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
If the Spurs were 0 and 7, how good would Beno look? I am willing to bet that Beno would not make the active squad on almost every team in the NBA. However, Pop has no clue as to what a backup point guard looks like, so I wouldn't be surprised if Beno starts so he could do better. :lol (In memory of Hedo.....)

what about your girlfriend Speedy Claxton???
He traded for him you know genius.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
That's great. Give the boy some minutes. As I said, I am looking strictly at a championship run. I am no longer into the entertainment of letting potential players get minutes on a team that is SUPPOSED to win a CHAMPIONSHIP. Let them go play for Atlanta or Charlotte.
With that opinion, I know what happened against LA last year and the FUBAR point guard management that Pop displayed last year. I don't want to see a repeat performance from Tony's backup nor Rasho Nesterovic.
Is that a problem?

Ding Dong.... Didn't he get him from Larry Brown? Larry Brown was so generous, he actually helped Popovich win another championship. Pop didn't do it alone. He was what I called assisted. Claxton helped the Spurs win a ring. A season that your fat ass enjoyed. So don't discount his contributions.

once again, name a point guard that was available this summer with the Spurs cap room, that would be better.

THERE IS NONE GENIUS.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
I can give you names of euro players, that never played in nba or coleague and set up a team that would beat most of nba teams with no problems. First in line would be Dejan Bodiroga - forward (you as a basketball fan probably don't know the name Sequ), Sarunas Jasikevicius - guard (played in Olimpija same as Nesterovich and Udrih), Ginobili also didnt had any nba experience when he came to spurs, Milojevic Dejan - center (all around player, can rebound, score, pass and steal - will be mvp in eu in my opinion), and my favourite Marko Milič - forward (guy made a monster dunk over mazda or honda car, don't remember anymore and got it as a reward, he can score over just about anybody if he wants it, most of baskets he makes are putbacks and alleyups). And i bet you anytime you want, that most euroleage teams would do just fine in nba. I hate to see somebody speak about things he never even seen or done.

Well, it's no longer fun being Slovenian. Plus I don't want to cause an international incident and cause the Slovenians to remove their troop from NATO. We also have the tallest Tall Blacks of them all.

If Karl is Slovenian then it's his call and I should not have called him on it.
As for MB I've been around the forum long enough not to take him seriously or to think that anybody really pays attention to his hate induced posts. I don't take it seriously at all but have always had problems when somebody labels whole nations/ethnic/religious groups.
Me I'm fair game, but my country is not - think how you guys feel when ignorant foreigners make fun of the USA based on some stupid stereotypes.
I guess I reacted more to Karl finding it funny than MB original post, I've learned to ignore those.

Well, it was going to happen (sort of) this preseason with Utah and CSKA Moscow. There will be more in the future.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
I just got here but I'm going to take a wild stab and say that this Sesquispur guy was calling for the head of Pop when he drafted the rights to two out of towners named Parker and Ginobili. Hell, he was probably ready to hang Manu from the closest tree in his rookie season when he was turning the ball over with his zany passing. The bottom line on Beno is this, I think the Spurs organization has proven in the last few years that they know what they're doing when they go scouting overseas. Give Beno a little time.
And as far as the game of Rasho-Basho that is going on 24-7 around here, the guys stats are pretty solid. Certainly as good as they need to be on a team with this much offensive fire power. On top of that he's really stepped up his D ever since getting to SA. And as far as this "no-dunking" nonsense-who the hell cares? What the Spurs really need out of their center is a big man who can draw a defender away from the basket with a credibly 12-15 foot jumper, which Rasho can do. If nothing else, the Spurs simply need him to play as well as an old ex-Navy guy with a bad back and they can win a championship.
-
Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
The Spurs need a big man to take the work off of Tim Duncan so he can perform in the playoffs rather than sacrificing his body to cover for Rasho against lottery teams. Rasho should cover for Tim. As for stats, watch a damn game. Rasho looks like he got to the game on the short bus.
I am all about winning. I want to see the best team out on the court. This isn't tryouts my friend. Beno needs experience to be on a team like SA. I think the Spurs could've done better last year and this year at obtaining a backup pg. Seems to me that Pop ran out of options again or has no plan.
A backup point guard and a center might have guaranteed a ring last year.
Hedo, Garcia, Heal... weren't those foreigners? Dude, most foreigner players don't make it in this league. Isn't that safe to say? I know there are more now than in previous years, but Manu was never a nobody. Dude came on the scene in full force. And yes, he did get off to a slow start.

Mrs. Chumpdump,

Hedo didn't play any worse than an American shooting guard, Garcia got off to a good start before busting the hell out of his ankle, and Heal...well, not every kernel in the popper pops. Nonetheless, I would put the Spurs draft record up against most any team in the league.

Beno Udrih - Beno sucks.
Bump :lol

Don't be an idiot. A young Euro point guard who has NO NBA or big game experience playing on a NBA CHAMPIONSHIP level team is not a good thing.
I am all for seeing him develop on the IR, but please get this kid off the court.
This guy cannot be for real. He has to be some kind of troll. Nobody can be that ridiculous or that far off. And just in case you were being serious......uh, you need help.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
Sequ's not a troll. He's good people and he just likes to start stuff.
(I can't believe I'm doing this, after I exhumed the casket for further review on this thread. :lol )

Good luck with that. I've already tried to get my hands on a Beno and/or Rasho national Jersey. Without success!

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
To the Slovenians, I have a question about Beno.
I know over the past few years, he was hampered with injuries. I know one time it was a lingering ankle sprain. But what were his other injuries -- was there ever a major injury or was it always just tweaks and sprains?

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
As far as i remember him playing in my fav club olimpija he didn't had any injuries, that was for about 2 or 3 years, then maccabi stealed him from us (big money) and i think he got hurt more seriusly there, don't know what really happened. Beside this i can't think of any more injuries.

Re: SequSpur's Early Season Observations
I've had no problem getting my Team Slovenia merchandise.

If I remember correctly it's the latter. Many minor injuries, I do not remember him missing a bing chunk of the season or anything similar.

I wonder if Sequ was on a binge when he wrote his original post?
You have an UPDATE on your observation now?
Or are you now starting the car in the garage with the door closed?
