Vince Carter might finally get his wish: a ticket out of Toronto.
The Raptors and Trail Blazers are discussing a blockbuster seven-player trade that would send Carter to Portland, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has learned.
In exchange for Carter, Jalen Rose and two other unnamed players, Toronto would receive forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, center Vladimir Stepania and guard Derek Anderson from Portland. Toronto proposed the multiplayer deal, Smith reports.
Carter asked during the summer to be traded but the Raptors had hoped the All-Star guard would change his mind. Toronto hasn't made the playoffs the past two seasons, and Sam Mitchell will be Carter's third coach in three years.
Carter told the Toronto Star in the offseason that "It's time for the truth: I want to be traded." Carter also said in a letter to fans posted on his Web site that he's not eager to wait while the team rebuilds.
"My frustration comes from the fact that we have not been able to create an equation to win ballgames," Carter wrote. "I am at the point in my career where I do not have time to wait two to four years for a team to mature."
Carter has four years remaining on his contract and remains one of the NBA's most popular players because of his highlight-reel dunks. But knee injuries have caused him to lose some of his explosiveness.
i like kenny smiths nickname for VC
HALF MAN ; HALF A SEASON
Is portland really that much of a step up? Those guys are rebuilding too.
I hope PTB don't have Duncan yet.
If I was the Toronto GM I would make this move in a second. Get out from under VC and Rose, and get two quality guys like DA and SAR. . . . . sounds like a great situation for the raps.
Was Jalen Rose the one who called time out or was it Webber? I forget....
Can't believe that guy was available....
Webber was the one who called the infamous phantom TO. This trade is really just rearranging deck chairs on sinking ships. SAR might help bring a little post punch to the Raptors, but I really can't see VC making an impact in Portland. Too many guards on that roster already and he'll get injured. His knees are timed better than a Swiss clock.
I hope Toronto realizes that SAR was upset because he was having to play out of position, and they already have a PF in Chris Bosh.
He played center last year though.
Raps definitely get the better deal.
DA & SAR are better players than JR & VC, but not when it comes to popularity.
You add a healthy DA & SAR to a lineup with Alvin Willams(PG) & C.Bosh(PF/C), you have a much better team. I would guess that SAR will slide into PF & Bosh to center.
True, but if God was blessing us all, wouldn't he already be blessing america, the spurs and the cowboys?

Carter = Sucks
==> Toronto + Carter = Toronto Sucks
Seriously, he's one of the players I would never want on the Spurs for anything. I wouldn't trade Sean Marks or Massenburg for that jerkoff. He's had a horrible attitude for years, he's never gotten along with teammates, he has a huge ego, he's soft and afraid of contact, shoots too many jumpers, etc. The only player in the league I'd take Carter over is probably Antoine Walker, far and away the worst player in the NBA right now.
