Re: James White Hall of Famer
To me, he's not like SJax. Stephen has horrible handles and is a very bad dribbler. And he's not really that athletic. And he's also much bigger than White (height and frame).
White looks like he has good handles, he's very light and he's just a really amazing leaper.

Sequ, he was okay but let's not get carried away. Stay with us and don't let your attention follow the shiny, moving objects too much.

Just log off and go to bed, you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
The only way Harris dunks is on his playstation.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
Maybe Pop is planning to use him as a "secret weapon" for his annual "small-ball" playoff lineup.

True, TP is an example of someone who can develop an adequate jump shot with time and work. Still, it's nice to know what you have to work with. Having shooting ability approaching Manu's will make his slashing all that more effective when people have to play him tight to respect the shot. Gives him a true tripple threat position.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
A good first show, garbage minutes or not. Most first shows are lucky to get 1 minute of playtime and any shot attempts, especially ones that go in along with FTs and dunks.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
We'll see if he makes it past training camp next year.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
Well he certainly looks like he has more upside than Beno.

SilverPlayer - Devin Harris is the Mavs point guard. Where's the connection to a high flyer like White?
Devin I see as a guy who can drive because he can be really streaky with his shot. I know he's a point. Devin never impressed me as a rebounder. Is it that difficult of a connection? I'm having trouble coming up with abother player he compares to favorably.
Devin for his career averages 8.3 pts - 32.3pct for beyond the arc. Thats the comparison. The are going to use the same MO to do what they need to do in a game.

98% of Spurstalk posters have more upside than Beno at this point.

Just my gut intuition. I like the kid, but am not seeing it.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
My problem with White since I first saw him play when he was in high school is that he doesn't really use his athleticism to his advantage. You see it on his dunks, but outside of that ... you'd never really know he's a world class athlete.
If he can learn to use his athleticism for defense, rebounding, penetrating or anything other than a highlight reel dunk, he could be an NBA player.

yeah I thought that post was making pretty huge assumption based on a player's debut in garbage minutes.
I think a lot of people here are making reasonable evaluations of his debut. I think the title of this thread is just poking fun at the excitement of him playing his first NBA game. This off season sucked, and White was the only "exciting" bit of news that happened.
As for White, you cant make a solid evaluation until he's seen some quality minutes. But as for his first game, he looked solid. He didn't look lost out there like some other players have in our system. The only thing I question was his perimeter d.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
I watched the Warriors broadcast via League Pass. When White got a case of the dribbles and the incurred a shot clock violation, he ran back down court and immediately looked toward Pop's direction. Instead of getting upset, Pop grinned and winked at him.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
the biggest flaw I saw is his lack of movement without the ball. Dude gets absolutely zero seperation.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
a couple 3's hit in his grill but he got a hand up on both shots...Awesome game for the spurs back2back poundings dished out. 3rd quarter was exciting cuz i thought Bdiddy and Tony might go @ it for a sec

The styles are completely different. Harris' job is to relieve Jet Terry at the point while penetrating to break down defenses. That's what he does, but from the point position. He's not going to rebound, and he's not going to dunk.

That's what I was pleased to see - the guy didn't look at all lost out there.

Devin isn't supposed to impress you as a rebounder. He's a 6'3 point guard. You are right that he isn't a good 3-point shooter. But he's not a dunker either.
White isn't supposed to be a 3-point shooter. He's a high flying athlete. He'll get most of his points at the rim.
But I don't know how you concluded he's going to be a bad shooter when he only took one outside shot.
Anyway. I think a comparison to a light, athletic small forward who can't shoot from long range would have made more sense.
At first I thought maybe you meant Devin Brown and then I got really confused.

Re: James White Hall of Famer
Does anybody remember when Parker was 18 and he lit up the summer league???
Uh hello!!! This is no fluke.
