Some dude voted for Elson? Gotta be a Spurs homer.
Kobe being on the first team (or any all-defense team for that matter) is ridiculous. No point guards at all on the first team? Hinrich should be there easily.
No surprise.
Props to Bowen and Duncan, but damn that sucks for Bruce. He dominated the competition in the coaches' eyes, but is only DPOY runner up. Horseshit.
NEW YORK, April 30, 2007 – Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs highlight the 2006-07 NBA All-Defensive Teams, the NBA announced today. Duncan leads all players with his 10th selection, while his teammate Bowen, the leading vote-getter, earns his seventh appearance.
Also selected to the First Team is 2006-07 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets at center, his third such honor. Rounding out the First Team are guards Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, who earns his seventh selection, and Raja Bell of the Phoenix Suns, making his first appearance on an All-Defensive team.
Bowen’s and Duncan’s defense helped the Spurs hold opponents to 90.1 ppg (first in NBA) and .433 from the field (third). San Antonio has finished in the top five in both categories in each of Duncan’s 10 seasons. Camby led the NBA in blocks (3.30 bpg) to go along with 11.7 rpg (tied for fourth in NBA). Bryant ranked 17th in steals with 1.44 per game, while Bell often matches up against the opposition’s best offensive player.
The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of Chicago teammates Ben Wallace and Kirk Hinrich, New Jersey’s Jason Kidd, Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince and Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett.
The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.
Attached are the results for the 2006-07 NBA All-Defensive Teams:

This is the second year in a row Bowen has been the leading vote getter. I guess the coaches appreciate him more than the journalists.
Kori- thanks for putting up the article. I got sidetracked and you got in before I got back!
Mainly because the coaches see first hand the impact Bowen has on their team's offense while the journalists are busy stuffing their face and getting sauced. The Journalists looked at the obvious (most blocks) and decided that equated defensive player of the year.Quote:

KG?
WTF is jermaine oneal, ron artest, gwallace, battier?
at least they didnt have marion on the list since his defense evolves around statpadding, has he ever shut down any player yet
I know, Battier should have deserved a spot on that Second Team.
But overall
Coaches' opinion >>> Sportswriter's opinion
Bowen or TD should have won the defensive pleyer award this year.
Wow, Camby was one point from being on the SECOND team.... How ridiculous would that have looked???
I´d surely vote Duncan (or even Bowen) instead of Camby, but I really think it´s happened more due Camby´s direct competition (Ben Wallace) than other think.Quote:

Marion was snubbed as well. He finished 4th in DPOY voting and didn't even get 2nd team love.
kobe on the first team is a joke
Kobe is a pretty good defender...he shut down Wade in that one game this season against the Heat, and also was good against Lebron as well.
What I don't understand is Raja Bell making first team...over Heinrich and Battier? Battier seriously got jobbed.
Good to see TP and Manu getting some votes down there too.
On another note, what do you think the score would be if the first team played the second team with these matchups?
Camby v Big Ben
Duncan v KG
Bowen v Tayshaun
Kobe v Kidd
Raja v Hinrich
Double-digit win for the first team.Quote:

Kobe over Battier or Hinrich? Dumb.
Marion is going to be fucked pissed.
Even as a Laker fan, I clearly agree. It is ludicrous for Kobe to be on any All D team for this season. Or last season. Or the one before that.Quote:

But that is a joke to even have an award if you are going to say he played better defense this year than Kirk Hinrich.

How is Kobe first team?
why don't they just let the coaches vote for DPOY? at least they have first-hand experience than some journalist who will just look at the stat sheet.
He's probably the best defensive point guard out there. Not Harris. Anyone remember when he held Tony to 6 points on about January? :spinQuote:

He´s the kind of player (retarded) who cares with this stuff, just like Camby...Quote:

But you're implying that they don't play any. Actually, you're not even implying. You're flat-out stating. Yeah, that's why they have a opponants FG% identical to the defensive minded Pacers, or one just .2% over that of Utah.
Also, remember that their percentage is skewed because they are such an average defensive rebounding team, allowing the third-most offensive rebounds per game. These rebounds generally are scored on as point-blank putbacks and layins, offsetting the initial miss they forced in the process.
I've watched this team for practically three seasons in their entirety and, without a doubt, this is their best defensive team yet. No, they aren't top-5, but they are borderline top-10. When you're as small and as skinny as the Suns are, I don't see how you can be expected to be much better.
Marion was fourth in the defensive player of the year voting. Do they have different voters for the effin' Defensive teams? The three who were voted above him each made the 1st-Team. How does his fourth-place finish barely even garner an honorable mention?
He has guarded PGs to PFs and, while not a great defender at any one position, his versatility is the key for whatever defense the Suns do muster up. He averages double-digit rebounds year after year, is consistantly in the top-5 in steals, averages more blocks per game than half the starting centers in the League and does so at 6-7, 225 pounds.
You can not like the way the Suns play, but make no mistake, they play defense. Maybe not all the time, and certainly not up to your elitist Spurs standards, but Marion and Bell bust their asses as much as any defenders in the League. Your pompous jackass stance is laughable.
Seriously. Get over yourself.
Spurs are the better team twixt the two. At least for now. They are such because they have the bodies to muscle up the Suns and expose their biggest defensive weakness: defensive rebounding.
In the next series, note how many initial possession misses the Spurs tally, then how many easy buckets are made off of offensive rebound putbacks.
And before you tell me true defense is not just forcing misses, but also getting stops, pray tell how Marion or Bell can/should do any more than each already does? How much more can each do, defending the likes of Kobe to LeBron, Dirk to Parker, Iverson to McGrady, Carmelo to Terry, and so on and so forth.
Defensive awards should be as much about effort as they are stats, and nobody can call into question either's.
I like the Spurs a lot and will always pull for them in the Finals, but sometimes the attitude of, "If it's not like us, then it's not even defense" is insufferable.
For the record, I don't think Bell deserved 1st-Team. I think Marion deserved 2nd, if not 1st, and Bell an honorable mention.
I believe that the head coaches vote for All Defensive Team and the Sportswriters vote for Defensive Player of the YearQuote:
