In 99 Duncan was owning everyone. These days all you have to be is physical as Duncan doesn't have the quickness he once had.Quote:

I agree with the original post. When have the Spurs ever been able to beat the mighty Suns in the playoffs? :rolleyes

Yes, that's jman3000 preparing for a Got Milk? commercial. The dancing fat guy is Chris Farley from an SNL skit.Quote:

Spurs will have a tough series but Suns WILL be slowed down by the best defense in basketball. Too many people make too much about the SUns offense (which IS awesome) but Spurs will once again prevail because of defense. Spurs in 6. Game 1 goes to Spurs.
...oh and the "AGAIN" was not and will not be because of the Suns.Quote:

Talk about wild speculation presented as analysis. Yeah, all of that might happen but when have you ever seen it happen? That's what I thought.Quote:

True Amare is getting to be a better post up player.
True the Suns are playing a little bit better defense this season.
True the Spurs are a little older.
But those are COMPARATIVE things.
For how Amare "went off" the last time the Suns-Spurs matched up in the playoffs, the fact remains he largely still needs someone to create opportunities for him. Especially during the stretches he'll find himself matched up with Timmy during this series.
Consider, merely as evidence, that in that monster 42 point Game 5 from 2005: more than half of his shots were assisted. Compare that to Timmy in the same game: more than 50% of his shots have no credited assist. Yes Amare is getting better as a one-on-one low post player, but don't kid yourself...he had a long way to go and so his improvement is only a relative thing.
Look the Suns are a great offensive team. You give up something to him, but the Spurs do the best job in the league limiting Nash's kick out opportunities. Especially to the three point line. Yes, you can give me anecdotes and examples where that strategy has failed. But the stats show that over this year the Suns, the best 3 point shooting team in the league, shot 36% against the Spurs. Not atrocious but below their average (40%), and not good enough to win a playoff series against the Spurs.
It is foolish to think the Suns can guard Timmy one-on-one, because they've never shown that capability nor even a desire to try that as a strategy. Talking about how the Suns are going to shut down the Spurs outside shooting when you know they're going to double Tim for long stretches of the game looks like really stupid analysis.
Look, whatever lauding the Suns defense has gotten for improving this year, the fact is that statistically, by ppg, this defense is virtually identical to last year! Last year without Amare they gave up 102.8 points/game. This year: 102.9 points/game.
Finally, after the Denver series, and the minutes Timmy and the gang didn't put in during the regular season, I have no idea why some on this thread (not the poster I quoted) think the Spurs are too old to get up and down with the Suns. The Spurs do the best job of anyone in the league of forcing the Suns to slow down. Again that is a COMPARATIVE thing.
The Suns came into the 2005 Western Conference Finals averaging 116 points for the playoffs. They got a 104/game against the Spurs. There's nothing from the three games this season or the Spurs series against Denver to imagine they can do better than that. I mean, you can speculate that they can spread the floor by going small and pick up the tempo but the fact is they've never been able to do that yet...so it really is completely unclear why you would imagine they can do that randomly during a playoff series.
Their only hope is actually playing some defense. As the stats show, I wouldn't hold my breath for that.
Let's just make it perfectly clear for every Suns or Mavs fan who gets a headache looking at statistics or actually analyzing game footage: The San Antonio Spurs are the absolutely worst matchup in the entire NBA for the Phoenix Suns
16 - 4! That's an atrocious record against any single team.
The Suns might be able to drag this series out to six, but the Spurs are going to the Western Conference Finals.
Mavs will be lucky to even sniff the WC finals for a Spurs rematch.
call me crazy, but id rather watch Timmy play then the whole Suns team. for some reason he's my favorite player to watch :lol
Score! Looks like the Suns trolls are all full of unintentional hilarity! It's gonna be like watching Judge Dredd or Shatner doing Hamlet.
