Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
All this whiny cry baby BS is really old. I find it refreshing the spurs are playing with tenacity and fervor. Im tired of see'ing all the spurs fans here saying how disapointed they are with horry, or making excuses for hard fouls. It is a contact sport, this series is likely going to decide the 2007 NBA champs, there is hard HARD play on both ends. I love it.
I love the fact that we aren't shying away from putting another player on his ass if the situation warrants it. These games are battles to the end (usually) with 2 very good basketball teams. Stop turning it in to some ridiculous cry baby media circus and enjoy it.
I know there has to be others out there who feel the same way.

Does anyone really know why Rob lost his cool?
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
Jason Terry and his crotch punching fist gives the Spurs the ol' A-OK.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
There's a big difference between playing hard (which the Spurs did not do in the last few minutes), and cheap shots.
Horry's foul was unwarranted, and just gave the Suns more motivation. I still think the Spurs will win Game 5, but I'm pissed as Hell at Horry.

Way to go Horry! Go Spurs Go!
That whiny bitch Nash was giving an Academy Award performance!

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
I hope most people here are being sarcastic. I refuse to believe that the classy Spurs have become a "dirty" team - and the fans actually want it that way!
Cheap fouls are for losers who can't win games.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
Horry is a winner, and was frustrated at the dismantling of his team in the late stages of the 4th after owning the entire game.
He lost his cool, and decided it was time to take the suns down a notch. I dont fault him for what he did. He was frustrated, and let it show.
The foul was really not that bad. I saw it replayed 100 times and it was silly. Yea it was a foul, he meant to hip check nash, but nash should win an oscar for the flop job. I am not saying it was a bad move by nash, he did what he was supposed to do, sell it....but c'mon it isnt like horry ran up and cold cocked him...
IT played to our favor too, we are that much deeper in phoenix's head, nash has a bruised ass, and we possibly play an amareless suns on wednesday.
go spurs!

I am definately 100% not being sarcastic. What the hell is classy? i mean are we going to host a cocktail party afterward and sip martini's? Give me a break...this is a basketball game, the entire game is hard nosed fouls under the radar. The suns are pulling them off just as much as we are, Horry made his well visable, so what...get over yourself with this classy crap...i never ever really understood this.
I am sure the bobcats or the sonics or whatever are hella classy, they can host all sorts of bunko games and socials in their long summers, hell im sure they are all in etiquite class right now.

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
sorry horry is getting suspended for a foul?
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
have told everyone over and over that it's like my kids, if you are going to cry I'll give you a reason to cry. The Suns wouldn't quit bitching and moaning so wouldn't you know just as I feared the refs like the mind-numbed robots they are had Duncan with 5 fouls at the end of the game.
SOOOO if you're going to keep accusing us of thuggery might as well benefit from it. We weren't playing dirty before but if the Suns keep crying about it and the idiot refs play along then might as well get what we can out of it!!

My point is, you don't win games by playing "dirty." You don't win games by getting yourself ejected or in foul trouble.
If Spurs want to win this series, they need to play smart.
If the entire team wants to play "dirty" and get suspended, then they will lose.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
In watching the video replay, I find it interesting that Nash just beelined right between Horry and the sideline. I'm not saying Horry's foul was legit, but it seems that Nash looked to draw and did a good impersonation of a pinball. Then again, running full speed with a basketball into someone's hip might do that. :lol
I think Nash's English father taught him some good soccer flops like Manu and Fabricio learned in Argentina. :lol
Seriously, all kidding aside, get over it. Horry got a Flagrant 2 for a hard foul, will get fined and maybe suspended Nash didn't get hurt, the Suns won the game, Game 5 is tomorrow night.

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
How many pistons fans here can say they were "disgusted" with their team when bill lambeer was laying people out.
Or how many Pistons fans relished every damn game because their team had some cajones and the rest of the league noticed.
Id love to hear them chime in.

That was back then. This is now. The league won't allow that kind of basketball anymore.

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
I understand. Im not a fan of cheap fouls either. I honestly dont find what Horry did all that cheap. Nash sold the foul more than horry committed it.
I wouldnt care for it if every game was a fist fight, thats not what im saying, but i also dont think teh spurs should just try and out finesse the most finesse team in the league.
Fight fire with water in my opinion. The suns are tissue thin, a hip check is warranted now and then. Hell it happened a lot worse than the Horry foul quite a few times on both ends last night, most of the time it wasnt in the open floor and the recieving player didnt sell it as well.

How the Hell was it "warranted"?
If he just wanted to foul Nash, he could have gabbed him, and not slammed hin into the scorer's table.
And then he gets ready to rumble....
ridiculous. Horry lost his cool, and even though we probably would have lost anyway, guaranteed we would lose.
Horry was wrong, and the sooner Spurs fans admit it, the better.
Defending Horry makes all our protests about Bowen seem silly. Of course, it sounds like you like Bowen as a "dirty" player, and would applaud him if he was actually trying to hurt other players...

Mad Dog- You often win games by having B players...aka Robert Horry...Start Fights with A players aka Steve Nash......Anyone that has played or coached 6th grade basketball or football has seen dirty tactics such as these...
Don’t act like your team is holier than thou...The Spurs have played dirty this series...Read the posts...Spurs fans are proud of it... :smokin

Well, let me ask you as someone who is "non-partisan" (yeah, right!).
Do you think it was a smart play by Horry?
Let's, for the sake of discussion, assume Horry gets suspended, but no Suns player does.
Is that a "smart tactic"?
(And if you think Nash is going to get in a fight with Horry, your dumber than I thought).

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
Yea im all about seeing people get hurt!
i love it! :rolleyes
I DO think bowen is a dirty player, if you call hard ass defense dirty. He makes the shooters think about what they are actually doing at all points on the floor. This takes them off their game, and istead of concentrating on jump shots, they are concerned where he is all the time. You can see it all day watching steve nash. Nash is so worried about bowen, you can always see him scanning the floor looking for him. Do i think he does things to intentionally hurt people, hell no i dont. He is a good man, good character, no one like that would intentionally try and hurt people. Do i think he is a master at crowding a jump shooters space, absolutely. You do that enough times, and people are going to land on you. Does kobe try and take jump shots over bowen? No...he takes him off the dribble, because he knows bowen has the advantage in the jumpshooting game. Same go's with Dwade, do you hear either one of those two whining about bruce bowen? i dont.
Horry made a frustrated play, i am personally glad he hip checked rather than did the traditional wrap up foul. I think the suns were playing rough all game, and horry decided to take one for the team and show him who wins at the rough game.
that said, do i wish it happened all the time every game...no, but ill take that one last night. Like i said, the foul was sold more than it was committed.

To reiterate my point, dirty plays cost you games. Period.
Spurs can't afford to play dirty. If Amare gets suspended, and we win game 5, then Horry's damn lucky. You can't tell me he planned for Amare to jump off the bench when he "checked" Nash!

No. His play was purely emotional.
I dont fault him for it though. he is human.

why do you insist on his actions being wrong? it was a foul during a basketball game.....

Is it really necessary that all Spurs fans share your viewpoint? I honestly don't think the foul was necessary, but it was compounded by Nash's flop making it seem worse.
In the end, I think the Spurs were getting pounded by the refs and Horry just let the frustration get the best of him. Had he slid over and drawn a charge nobody would be calling Nash for a dirty shot...
It's over, lets see what the NBA does.

Because it was an unnecessary foul...
or do you think it was not excessive?
Look, I'm not trying to rub anyone's face in it. I just think Spurs fans should be honest and call a spade a spade.
I happen to think that most of the time, Spurs play hard defense, and are not "dirty." I believe that facts back me up on that.
If Spurs fans defend Horry's foul, then next time Bruce Bowen accidently kicks someone in the nuts, we have zero credibility.
That's why I'm being such a hard-ass about this.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
If they want to label the Spurs dirty... then so be it.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
unnecessary? there was still time on the clock..i am a spurs faithful and have seen plenty of basketball miracles and mishaps (cough .04) ...foul was necessary yes...excessive overeaction by nash yes... i thought horry hipchecked him? is this not in the play rules?
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
Do you also agree that Raja Bell giving Oberto the Forearm shiver was wrong? He practically leaped into his chest?
Or was this just a good play?
Ok here is my argument. I think the Dirty mantra is ridiculous. It is something that the Media has played up to get the whole NBA world involved in this series. I do kind of like it though, as i think its making for a very exciting series. I think the spurs are playing their style of basketball though, and this is hard nosed, in your face, bump you and bruise you basketball. We are playing against the softest team in the league, who doesnt like to be slowed down with tough (albeit sometimes dodgy) defense.
What no one is saying though, is this shit is happening on both sides of the court, this is how the playoffs are played. Hard fouls, lots of "selling" of said hard fouls, lots of emotions, etc. I just think the spurs are a lot better at it, since most of our team is from teh old school when this WAS the style of basketball.
I dont think it deserves apologies, i dont think we should whine and cry about every foul on either side of the court. I think we should see it for what it is, and realise our team is doing what they know how to do best.
I hope to see the Spurs go on to win this series, and go to an even more hard nosed series. Spurs v Jazz will be fantastic. I dont forsee a boatload of 15 year old 1st year NBA fans crying and disecting every single movement in that series. I bet it will look a whole lot cleaner for that reason.
-
Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
I don't want the spurs to throw out everything they've built (class) over the years. But As I see it. They've handled this series with more class than the other team. They haven't pouted, cried, and whined (even though they've had the shorter end) and because they haven't done that they are now the DIRTY TEAM. A basketball fan should see the difference. If having class = dirty in their minds so be it...CHAMPIONSHIPS are not for the WEAK!

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
OK, Soul and Miss, I see your points. I agree the Spurs are not "dirty." I don't think the Suns are dirty either - I think both teams really want to advance, and are willing to do what it takes to get there.
Game 5 should be a great game, I hope I can actually enjoy it, and not get wrapped so much into the foul calls and politics.

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
It's just part of the game plan. "Hurt Steve Nash". Violence, black on white.

i never once said Bowen or SA wasnt a dirty team. Like i said previously. I think the Dirty tag is just something to feed the media frenzy, and bandwagon playoff fans such as yourself, so you guys have something to talk about.
I think the spurs play a lot harder than most NBA teams, i think bowen crowds shooters and makes them think twice...blablablarepeatagainblablablabla...if youc all that dirty, so be it, but i love it, and ill embrace it along with my team.

As much as I'd like to believe we had an edge about us, we don't. The Suns don't really believe it either.
Look at the footage, almost all of the Spurs were in disbelief when it happened, you could see it on their faces "Did that really just happen?". Some Suns were shocked too, it wasn't just them worrying about Nash, he got up pretty quick.

Re: Support the "Dirty" Spurs Thread
Nash used to play soccer. He knows how to sell a foul. Horry didn't hit him THAT hard. It was a flagrant, but it wasn't THAT hard of a foul and certainly wasn't the kind of play that would knock him out or anything. He didn't go to the head. It was just a hipcheck. What Baron Davis did to Derek Fisher was far worse.
