of the NBA finals.
The Spurs need to understand the importance of Game 6.
The worst part of losing game 6, will be the 36 hour turnaround, Keep in mind that we also have to travel in between games. In my mind, that benefits the Suns.
When teams are 2-2, 85% of game 5 winners go on to win the series.
Do you think this year's Spurs are in the bottom 15%? Or that the Suns are in the top 85%? I don't, so I think it is a comfortable to conclude the spurs should advance.

I don't get the thread title.
It was decided before game 5.*
also, i'd say if the spurs win the series, it was decided before game 6. like when the league handed you guys a freebie.
If the Spurs do get by, a rested, tough ass Utah team will be no pushover. Neither will the team from the East.
because there is no way the spurs could beat a suns team with amare and diaw in the game.Quote:

Spurs know if they have to advance they must win in game 6, so i'm confident that they will close it out on friday...
But the spurs have already gotten by. It's no longer about who's the best.Quote:

Suns win game 6. Spurs win game 7.
And the Suns never have won a best-of-seven series that was tied at 2-2... I like our chances :spinQuote:

You'd do us all a favor.
screw all you assholes!! You still have to go through utah to get to the finals, LOL !!!!!
You are looking past Utah & that ok ! When utah wins the west everyone in here can lick my balls!! Best of luck 2 you with utah, your gonna need it...........
Missing two key starters is stupidity on the Suns part. Considering at least one of the starters in question, stupidity rules. :smokinQuote:

Mark my words -- the Spurs will close it out tomorrow night. They're sick of the shit and the hype and they're no longer on the defensive. They'll come out in battle mode. Tomorrow night marks the end of the Suns in '07. Sorry.
it's always a pleasure to hear what the other Spurs nemesis and rivals are thinking. :reading

SPURS NEED TO DIG IN. WIN NOW
SAN ANTONIO – There have been bigger games. You don't win three championships without a few significant moments along the way.
But if San Antonio doesn't win tonight, it could signal the end of its Western Conference reign.
Please don't let word of this filter out in South Texas. The last thing I need is for Robert Horry to hip-check me into my laptop, or for Bruce Bowen to knee me in the press credential. This series has been rough enough as it is.
Still, I can't shake the sense that if the Spurs fail to close out the Phoenix Suns at the AT&T Center, if they're forced to return to the desert for Game 7, they will be eliminated in the second round for the second consecutive season.
I know the numbers. Teams up 3-2 go on to win a series 83.2 percent of the time. If the Suns extend this series it will mean they won two games in San Antonio in a span of five days, a far-fetched scenario.
But when this series hasn't opened a gash on Steve Nash's nose, it's turned conventional thought on its ear. The Suns are not a soft team. Phoenix does not run from playing defense. If it gets the Spurs back to Arizona, this team won't be denied.
"We can beat these guys," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni declared after his team almost beat the Spurs in Game 5 without Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw. "We've shown it."
And San Antonio has shown it's vulnerable.
The Mavericks ousted the defending champions on their home court last season in Game 7. The Mavericks followed that victory by stripping San Antonio of its Southwest Division title this season. It wasn't even a race.
Now, let's say San Antonio loses tonight and goes on to lose the series. What do you think that does for their street cred in the conference? The Spurs will no longer be the team to beat in the West. They will still be formidable heading into next season, but no more so than the Suns or Mavericks.
Once a franchise begins to slide, no matter how slightly, it's hard to stop. How many teams take two years off between titles, then come back to win with the same nucleus? Sure, the Spurs endured a three-year gap between their first championship and the second. But that's the exception, not the rule. And that Tim Duncan was younger than the current version.
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich isn't one to theorize about what could happen. But he knows what's at stake in Game 6.
"Good basketball teams try to display some resiliency and some consistency," Popovich told reporters Thursday afternoon on his team's return to San Antonio. "That's why this [Game 6] will be such a big challenge for us. It's a possible close-out game. Those are the toughest games of the season.
"And we're playing against a team that had a better record than we did during the year and wants to win the championship. Mental toughness will be real important."
Say the Spurs lose tonight. They can win in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. They've already done it twice in the series. But take a closer look at the two wins.
The first came with Nash on the bench, blood streaming down his face after an inadvertent head butt from Tony Parker in the final minute of Game 1. The second came Wednesday, when Stoudemire and Diaw were suspended.
Even without those two players, even with Nash, Raja Bell and Leandro Barbosa having sub-par shooting nights, the Suns led for 40 consecutive minutes. San Antonio needed Manu Ginobili's brilliance, a 3-pointer from Bowen and a 17-6 finish to earn the victory.
The Suns won the other game played at U.S. Airways Center by 20 points.
"It's huge," Parker said of Game 6. "I think everybody on the team understands we can't have the kind of letdown we had in Game 4. Phoenix is going to come out with a lot of energy. They're going to come with a lot of pride. They've got nothing to lose, so it's going to be hard.
"We need to win that one."
The Spurs can't afford to return to Phoenix for Game 7.
There's too much to lose.
Game 6, Phoenix at San Antonio, 8:30 p.m. today (ESPN)
:oops
just win GAME 6, SPURS! FINISH THEM!
Spurs damn well better close it out tommorow. Game 7 would be a disaster.
Silly rabbit. The Spurs will beat Utah like a red-headed stepchild. Utah.. :lol :lol :lol SWEEEEP!!!!!!!Quote:

No, dumbass, the Spurs aren't the kids in the Special Olympics. They're the kids who beat up the special-ed kids during recess and take their lunch money.Quote:

That said, Utah is a great team (with a GREAT experienced Coach who has the tools to contend again). So I doubt the Spurs are thinking about the Championship hinging on winning game 6 of the second round :rolleyes.
I would agree with you except for your choke-fest against Dallas last year. Who saw that coming?Quote:

They were tight as hell because they let the media circus surrounding the suspensions and the hostile crowd get to them. They had to win game 5 whether by blowout or playing like shit and escaping with the win they had to get that game. Now coming home with the Suns getting their 2 players back and the Spurs remembering how they let game 4 get away, they i feel will play very well. I think the Spurs will win a hard fought game 6 and move on.
I wouldn't count on it. He already gave you game 5. You'll have to earn this one.Quote:

Everyone keeps saying that then winner of this series will win it all. There are 2 problems with this theory.
1.Utah owned Phoenix this year and they will own them in the playoffs. Phoenix does not match up with Utah at all, and Utah is playing its best bball of the season right now, so it follows that they will indeed win that series against the Suns.
2. Detroit is playing great bball right now, and I think they are better than they were 2 yrs ago, when SA needed a miracle shot by Horry to beat them in game 5, to keep the pressure on Detroit, where Detroit had to win both games in SA instead of only one.
Historically, the winner of the Utah-Houston match up has gone on to the Finals...
Honestly, the Jazz look good, real good. If the Jazz do make the Finals, I don't see the Pistons or Nets stopping them. Cavs have a chance, I suppose, but it is a long shot, IMHO.
Not necessarily.
Everyone was saying the same thing at this time a year ago about the winner of game 6 between Dallas and the Spurs and we all know how that turned out...
That sounds a lot like what people were saying last year when the Mavs closed out against the Spurs.Quote:

Utah isn't a good matchup for the Suns. In fact, it's a worse matchup than the Spurs given the Jazz' length on their frontline and the ability of their bigs to step outside and shoot the J. If the Spurs advance, I could see the Jazz taking a game on their homecourt, undoubtedly with Okur hitting a last second layup.
None of us thought the Spurs were going to win that game right before that shot, right?Quote:
