Spurs' Bowen welcomes new addition to family
The biggest news to come out of the Spurs camp Saturday was that Bruce Bowen's wife, Yardley, gave birth to a 6-pound, 11-ounce boy at 9:19 a.m. who the couple named Ozmel. It's their second child. Another boy, Ojani, was born in September 2005.
Despite the big event, Bowen made it to practice and was all smiles when he met with the media.
"What a gift during quite a time," Bowen said, who also noted that his wife gave him permission to leave her side and join the team as it prepared for Sunday's Game 2.
Bowen's teammates said they weren't expecting him at practice.
"I told him congratulations and that I was glad to see that he made it (to practice) and didn't pass out," Michael Finley said. "I know he had a big game, so to speak, in the maternity ward, but we've got a big game tomorrow as well."
The Spurs can take a 2-0 lead with a victory Sunday.
Ozmel's birth even caught the attention of the Cavs' LeBron James, whose girlfriend, Savannah, is due to deliver the couple's second child on June 17, the date of a potential Game 5 in Cleveland.
"Congratulations to him and his family," James said. "That's awesome. Savannah is expecting any day. I think it's a great time for (Bowen's) family, and it's not going to take away from anything he does on the court."
James said he and Savannah have no plans to induce labor.
"She's just going to play it by ear," James said. "Whatever happens, happens. We're very excited about it. And we can't wait."
:lol Congrats to Bruce....damn I can't believe the guy still managed to make it to practice? wow....
