Which Playoff Exit Was Most Disappointing To You?

Definitely 2004. I was so confident that series, and so hyped that we would be the "All Star Team". Then we were playing "ho-hum" that game 5 I was thinking we would lose but hoping we wouldn't. Timmy brought me my hope with that last second shot and I was crying with joy, then a mere 0.4 seconds later I was crying with unconsolable saddness. Ugh that was a BITCH!

.4 was the worst, but the BS foul on Gino last year was a close second.

I've got to go with 06 as well. I mean you really couldn't even get mad at Manu because he did so much for us. I remember I literally just sat there staring at the television in disbelief. I could not believe we lost that freakin game. What made it so bad was that it was to Cuban and Dallas. :devil

Honestly, I thought the Spurs were overmatched in the series. Our defense did not get it clicking.

But I agree, Manu's foul was the worst.

'04 definitely. Not because of Fishers shot as much as the fact that they still had game 6 and 7 and just fell apart. That team just didn't have the killer instinct that this team has.

At least '06 went to 7 hard fought games. I don't blame Manu's foul because they still had overtime to win it.

Last year, because you don't foul a driving player when you're up 3, at home in a game 7.
I'm still pissed at Manu for doing that...frick'n inexcusable, and it cost us a championship.

Next, there's Strickland's infamous pass.

My first heartbreak was the infamous call against Whopper that cost us the game against the Bullets. I was a freshman in High School at the time, and I cried like a baby.

But Manu's foul has to be the topper for me...dude, what were you thinking? Still can't and never will get over it.

Last years Dallas Game 7 was the nail through the heart for me. Closely followed by .4

He wasn't even in the damn play but came flying from the wing to contest it. I seriously think i yelled louder than anyone in the fuckin arena when i saw him going after dirk on that drive. I wanted to go choke him...seriously...just put evryone on the three point line and let them have the paint all to themselves and you win the DAMN GAME!!! ARGHHHH!~!!!!!

I think the 00 year was the worst for me. Had TD not injured his knee, the Spurs would have held off the Lakers' start of their mini dynasty by one year. The Spurs were clearly better than LA that year and would have repeated, had TD missed that Sacto game where he hurt the knee.

Jesus Christ...there's been a lot of them, haven't there?

The loss to Washington in 1979 was awful. I was so sure the Ice Man was going to lead us to victory.

But really, all of them have sucked.

We lost that series because of Pop's idiotic insistence on going with a losing "small-ball" strategy. We got killed on the boards, and there was nobody to defend the rim except Duncan, who repeatedly got into foul trouble.

'95, '04, '06. Losing always sucks but it really sucks losing to the Mavs.

With all due respect to the .4 game and the Manu foul game, the 1979 loss to the Bullets was the worst playoff loss in franchise history. And it's not even close. You have to put that series in its proper context. The Spurs had just joined the league after the ABA merger a couple of seasons earlier, and there was a palpable dislike for the ABA teams, mostly coming from the likes of that asshole Red Auerbach (RIP) who derided the league at every opportunity.

The ABA was thought of as inferior. It was thought of as bush league (which it was, of course). But say what you will, the ABA had just as many talented players as the NBA. Even with all of their condescending shit, the NBA teams had no problem pilfering the talent from the ABA, turning some of its teams from crap to competitive. Artis went to the Bulls and immediately made them respectable. Dr. J was the most dynamic player in the world at the time and was sold to the Sixers so the Nets could afford to join the league. Moses ended up in Houston. Maurice Lucas was huge for Portland's championship. But the NBA never gave the ABA teams respect, and the ABA guys all played with a chip on their shoulder because of it.

In any event, winning that series would've legitimized the ABA and the Spurs. The Spurs were up 3-1 on the Bullets, and choked the series, aided by one of the worst flops in NBA history when they called an offensive foul on Billy Paultz as he was setting a pick in the final minute of game 7. It was just an awful call. Washington went on to win the finals against Seattle, and the Spurs never got that close again really until 1999. And truthfully, by 1999, I sort of thought of the Spurs as the Boston Red Sox of the NBA. Always good, never good enough to win it all, and always cursed.

To me, anything after 1999 is gravy. So we lost to the Lakers on a time keeper's screwup? So what, we won the title the previous and following year. Big deal. Same thing with Manu's foul. Complaining about those two is just being spoiled at this point.

Its a tie between 04 and 06 for me.... Erasing a 20 point deficit in the second half of game 7 and taking a 3 point lead with 30 seconds to go. After being down 3-1 we were gonna beat the cocky ass Mavs who punched us and talked shit on our town and got all the calls, then disaster.....

Last year still hurts me the most....and to me it made Dallas more of a worthy rival at the same time. IMO, after this year I don't think Dallas' team will ever be the same.

I'm not blaming Manu at all. You are right, without him the Spurs wouldnt have had a chance to win the game at all. If anything I just felt terrible for him.

2004 to the Lakers. To go from playing so damn good to playing so damn shitty was hard to justify. Also, .4 made my blood boil, not to mention that we were playing the Lakers.
