Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Has anybody given any props to Orbeto lately. The way he has been playing lately is awesome compared to last year's playoffs. He is down low helping Tim getting open, making shots, driving, getting offensive rebounds, and cleaning up the boards when shots don't fall. Oh, and did I mention defensive rebounds as well. With Oberto's help Elson will soon follow I know at times Elson can be a little clumsy but when he is down low and open he will slam it. The Spurs must keep Oberto and Elson to help Duncan get it done and will be the Spurs future. I'm Out...

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
I think Carlos Boozer should have stolen Dirk's trophy and sent it to him.

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Talk to me people what do you all think of these 2 guys!!! Oberto and Elson behind the scenes

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Oberto = A big that plays WELL without the ball.
Adequate rebounder, Good at getting the team extra posessions
On TDs double teams that dive to the basket gets SA easy points time after time
I lose interest in Elson game by game

Yeah i see what you mean on Elson but this is his 1st. year with the Spurs and will continue to improve. He is where Oberto was last years playoffs still learning the system and Elson will get better as he learns alot more of the Spurs offensive and defense. Alot better than Lousy Mohammad

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
I think Elson will improve and play better in his second season with the Spurs. He's never going to be great, but he can contribute. Once he has the Spur defensive system down, he'll be an assett.

I agree good takes on the subject! Thanks Guys!!

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
From what I hear, Elson works very hard at his game. I feel that Elson will improve...but Oberto will still be the more polished player in his career.
Elson needs to focus on finesse and not power-dunks.

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Yeah both players will become assets to the team. Another key part they could work on and will make them both a bigger threat is their outside shot. They need to get with Tony Parker's shooting coach Chip!!! man that guy really helped Tony's shooting game!!!
-
Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
To tell the true I didn't expect anything from Oberto and Elson but they are playing well in the postseason, especially Oberto

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
if only oberto had elsons hops.....

:lmao
The second either one starts jacking up 3's will be about 2 seconds before the next Spurs timeout and they get their asses yanked to the bench.

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Elson might improve a little next year but I wouldn't expect the type of improvement that Oberto had. Oberto was already a sucsessful player in Europe before he came to the Spurs. He is a smart player and just had to learn the system to be effective. Who knows Elson might even get worse like Nazr did after we won a championship or end up in a smaller role like Rasho did.
I think Jackie Butler will improve quite a bit over the next two seasons.
-
Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Oberto already played this way before in Europe and for his national team, but Elson will still be the same Elson he has always been. Just like Nazr, another year is not going to change much of anything about him. Oberto did not have the chance last year with Rasho and Nazr on the team, but Elson has had more than his fair share of chances.

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
The difference is Elson's level of play matches his salary. He's not all that great but his contract isn't an albatross around our necks either.
-
Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Elson can be better next year but it's far from sure.
It takes one year for some players to learn Spurs' big men defensive rotations but some players never get it (Nazr).

I don't believe the question had anything to do with contracts but instead about whether or not Elson would improve significantly next season. He won't- I think even you would agree. :)

And some players get it by Christmas (Rob and Rasho).

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
He could improve in some areas. His rotations improved towards the end of the season, so that might continue. I don't think he'll be any more productive on the boards -- if you look, he's better than you might expect. I was hoping the Spurs might tweak their offense a bit to accomodate Elson's speed, but that is only apparent in transition. Again, it's enough.

Most players aren't BB gods like the Admiral and Rasho.

Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Oberto is the consistent playing center that the Spurs have been needing for a while.
He knows his role in the team and plays hard. He is a cerebral player. Good defensive, solid pass, great picks, moves well whitout the ball.
I think he just needs to have some playing time next year.
Elson? He's an athletic player, no more.
-
Re: Oberto has improved Elson will follow
Oberto has played very well in these playoffs. The Spurs wouldn't be where they are without him. He's playing how Pop hoped Rasho would play when the Spurs signed him to that huge contract.
Elson ... I guess there is a silver lining in there somewhere. His playoff plus/minus is -41, which is three times worse than Jacque Vaughn. This season, he's proven to be fast and can get Spurs fans excited with his dunks. I would say he has room to improve but he's 31 and the areas he has to improve in take a couple years to work out.
But there's a chance Elson can take some type of step forward next year. And with Dirk still a main focus, Elson will probably be brought back just to see if he has any shot at staying with him on the perimeter.

Is this the same guy who harrassed me for saying Oberto would be THE Spurs center this year?

Link?
I've wanted Oberto to start for the Spurs since back before you knew who Rasho was.
