2007 NBA Summer League Thread
The Spurs are scheduled to play in the Vegas Summer League and the Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City. Here is the Spurs' schedule for the Vegas Summer League:
Spurs vs. Sixers - July 6th - 3PM CST
Spurs vs. Cavs - July 7th - 7PM CST
Spurs vs. Celtics - July 9th - 3PM CST
Spurs vs. Warriors - July 10th - 7:30PM CST
Spurs vs. Wolves - July 11th - 3PM
All the games well be webcast live and the game against the Celtics will be on NBATV.
The schedule isn't out yet for the RMR. I'd imagine the Spurs will play four or five games there as well starting on the 13th or 14th.
Spurs Roster
James White
Marcus Williams
Jackie Butler
Viktor Sanikidze?
Sergei Karaulov?
Beno Udrih?
White, Butler and Williams sound like they are going to play. Mahinmi was going to be on the team but he got injured. Hopefully Sanikidze can make it over this year. Karaulov I guess is decent for a token gesture.
And Beno, I think he should really play. Yeah, he's experienced but he hasn't played competitively in a while and maybe he can use summer league to gain back some confidence. At worst, that could help up his trade value.
Over the next couple days, we should hear of more players who will join the Spurs summer league team.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Will any of the guys who will be on the summer league team who were not on the roster this season have a shot of making next year's squad?
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
I don't think other than the 3rd PG position there are any spaces left for summer league players.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Now that Presti's gone, and given that Karaulov was Presti's idea of how to draft players that you've never seen, don't even have a picture of, are 22 and can't even break into the Russian a-leauge . . .
I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs don't even bother to bring him over.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Any chance Splitter plays the summer league?
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Any news on the players who got invited to the spurs camps earlier this month? e.g. Ortner

he was the 57th overall pick

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
I had heard that Aaron Miles was looking at not playing the Spurs summer league now. Since we didn't draft a PG last thursday is there any chance that he rethinks that choice?

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Check out the Blazers Vegas Summer League roster:
#0 Taurean Green
#2 Josh McRoberts
#6 Stefano Mancinelli
#8 Martell Webster
#11 Sergio Rodriguez
#12 LaMarcus Aldridge
#18 Rick Apodaca
#31 Zendon Hamilton
#41 Joel Freeland
#42 Mo Charlo
#52 Greg Oden
Not bad. Probably could make the NBA Playoffs.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Rick Apodaca?
Any relation to the Colorado Rockie's pitching coach?

In the east they'd make the finals! But they wouldn't crack anything out west.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Man if that roster had Mahinmi I'd be really really excited to see our squad play. Would probably watch every webcast.....still may watch a few.
Theres no reason Beno shouldn't play. Earn some of your money for once you freakin bust.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Teams playing the RMR are Sixers, Spurs, Jazz, Bulls, Mavs and Hawks.
Spurs will play against Sixers on July 13th at 6:30 pm and July 16 at 4:15 pm.
So, Spurs will play 3 times against Sixers this summer. It should be interesting given that Sixers team is quite good.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Splitter played three different tournaments (so did Scola) last season. he doesn;t have to come and show himself off to prove something he does daily there. plus.. he'll be playing against Kobe n' company on Vegas the Olympics qualifier...if you want to see him... just see that tournament...

When is that? I'd love to watch it.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Summer League rosters are starting to trickle in...of course, the Spurs are dragging ass.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Aaron Miles will play with Wizards summer league.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...pid=sec-sports
Quote:
Young, second-round pick Dominic McGuire and Pecherov will be joined on the team's summer league roster by former George Washington forward Mike Hall, who appeared in two games with the Wizards last season; Brian Chase, a Washington native and former Virginia Tech guard who played with the Utah Jazz last season; former Kansas guard Aaron Miles and other non-drafted free agents.
Maybe Miles won't play for Spurs summer league because Beno will play with them.

I don't think he is related to Bob Apodaca, T Park. Rick is an excellent player. You may remember seeing him play for Puerto Rico with Carlos Arroyo and Larry the Ballah Ayuso.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
It was more a slight joke. You must admit, its quite the unique name, and its strange to see two people in sports with it.

It probably has more to do with the fact that everyone knows the Spurs don't have any roster spots. It's going to be tough to get any decent players to join the Spurs summer league team.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Melvin Sanders will play with Suns summer league team.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Where do you go to watch the webcasts of the summer league games?

At least that ends the Spurs' low point in domestic scouting. Melvin Sanders ... great guy, bad basketball player.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
If Beno can't pull himself away from the buffet line, hopefully the Spurs can get a half way decent point guard to run the show in summer league. Two players who wouldn't be half bad would be Marque Perry and Cheyne Gadson.
As far as bigs go, I'd like to see an athletic four such as Jamar Smith, Sharrod Ford or maybe even James Singleton. A bruiser like Michael Wright could work.
White, Williams and Butler should be enough scoring. I just hope they aren't stuck with a scrub PG who struggles to get it into their hands.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
If the Spurs plan to keep Beno he must play in the Summer League
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
still no roster updates on the RealGM site, making the Spurs one of the very few teams without at least a few players listed.
Will there be any roster released before they play their first game on Friday?

Yeah, the Spurs always release their roster before summer league starts. This season they are late in releasing their roster. They usually release it four or five days before they start.
I expect the roster to be released tonight or at the latest tomorrow night.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
I just recently got NBA TV and I'm not familiar with their coverage of the Summer Leagues. They don't broadcast them live generally, do they? The games are usually recorded and played later, right? I heard that 4 of their 5 games will be on NBA TV, but how long will I have to wait to watch them?

I'm not sure because it's completely different this season. In the past, they were broadcast a few days later to a week later, but this year they are supposed to have some live TV broadcasts, live webcasts, etc. So I guess we have to wait for the details.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Well it looks like the details are already out.

The games with the * are tape delay. The rest are live.

Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
The Spurs only have one Vegas Summer League Game broadcast on regular NBAtv. It's the Boston game next Monday afternoon.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
I can't find any damn thing on the rosters and the games start tomorrow!
What's the deal? :madrun
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
It looks like we will find out the Spurs summer league roster at 1:00pm tomorrow when they step on the court in Las Vegas.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
Any idea if the NBA will archive webcasts so we can watch them later?
-

Actually most of the top rookies are playing in the Las Vegas league, so the competition is good. Oden, Durant, etc are all playing (though the Spurs don't play Por/Sea).

Kori, is this his drafted height and weight, or current measurements. I remember reading somewhere that he had grown and was now closer to 6'10". It will also be interesting to see if he has learned anything over the last year.
-
Re: 2007 NBA Summer League Thread
We should have a vBookie for how many points Butler averages in the Summer League.

I always thought he was at least 6'9 too - on the press release they may have just used the height/weight from the draft.

What's crazy is that you're absolutely right.
How are they going to find playing time for all these guys in the next couple years?
Good night, they're LOADED with young talent!
Side Note: Rudy Fernandez isn't even on there....one more starting calibur player.
Rediculous.
