hmmmmm, where's bonner's name? His signing is looking less and less the longer we here he has not signed. The spurs showed who was a priority and who was not!
I was unaware of other team's interest in him, so :tu on the quick action on him. Her'es hoping that the team can get together a 2nd PG for Tony, because even with Beno out of the tournament for the summer he'll need a miracle to be a good back-up. That's just what I worry about, the fact that we, as ST, talk about JV as a 3rd PG when, for most of the 1st half of the season, and all of the 2nd, he was the back-up. But, all my opinion.Quote:

i like vaughn, he pissed me off every now and then during the playoffs when he missed a couple of layups because he was trying to hard on a fast break, but overall he's a good back up, he may not put up numbers, but he plays good defense and runs the offense pretty good.....it must feel weird for him that he doesn't have to move for at least another 2 seasons (well that is if we don't trade him in 08).......... hopefully we'll find a younger back up though and he stays on just as 3rd stringer
oberto was signed for way to long, he's gonna be useless in next years playoffs when we play the suns and the mavs, but i guess they have to be loyal to this old guy
I'm good with both moves, I didn't see anyone out there I would take over guys who already knows our system and we know exactly what we will get.
Free agency this year is crap, we need to keep what we got (we did) and work on evaluating the guys who are in our system right now.
^Yea... I don't know what this 3rd string business is... last I checked he was gettin alot more PT than Beno...Quote:

It may sound unimpressive, but you have to remember Rasho and Nazr couldn't of even catch passes. Also, Oberto is a great team defender. He does a great job of staying on the offensive player and not over-jumping, like Elson. And his help defense is great!Quote:

They cant actually sign until the 12th right? I guess they reached an agreement.
probably not. seeing as how quickly this deal was done, he was probably signed for a very reasonable rate that won't cut much into the '08 cap room. if he was asking for 4-5 million per, this likely would have taken more than a day and a half to get done.Quote:

Well, with the new TV/media contracts raising the bux by 20%, look for a nice li'l bump in both the cap and the tax next summer. Also, the Spurs seem to rarely guarantee ALL years of contracts for role players. The last year is usually either partial, or not at all.Quote:

The Spurs have reached agreement with Jacque Vaughn on a two-year contract that will pay him about $2.5 million, an NBA source said Monday.
Vaughn's agreement, which pays him the minimum salary for players with at least 10 seasons of experience, means the Spurs have commitments from two of their free agents. Fabricio Oberto plans to sign a three-year deal once the league's free-agent moratorium ends on July 11.
The Spurs also are continuing negotiations with forward Matt Bonner.
Vaughn, 32, joined the Spurs last season and became the team's most dependable reserve point guard since Speedy Claxton left after the 2003 championship.
Though Vaughn began the season alternating games on the inactive list with Eric Williams, he eventually replaced Beno Udrih as Tony Parker's backup.
In 64 games, Vaughn averaged 3.0 points, 2.0 assists and 11.9 minutes.
Good!!!
Every team in the NBA is going to kick this geriatric team collective asses!!!
Good !!! I'm glad you didn't get any better but maybe WORSE
As expected.
I suppose the last roster spot will go to Williams.
Spurs seem pretty set.
:lol Let's play another 4 games, then! The Spurs aren't tired.Quote:

To a passage in the agreement
The agent of Fabricio Oberto announced that they are near deciding the new bond with San Antonio Spurs. “We are going to obtain the contract and probably it is this week”, said. He would be by three years.

Fabricio Oberto has well in clear where it wants to continue playing in NBA. It left his contract with San Antonio Spurs to follow in the champion with Manu Ginóbili. And the Spurs wants it and they have it in its plans to defend the title in the coming campaign.
The agent of Oberto, Herb Rudoy said in the local newspaper, San Antonio Express News who the agreement is closely together, considering that from the first day of the month could begin the negotiations. “Fab left in clear that it does not wish to play in another place that is not in the Spurs, and all they know that” declared the representative of the Cordovan. “We are going to obtain the contract and probably it is this same week”, added Rudoy.
Oberto, when leaving the contract declared free agent and the players, in this condition, can reach verbal agreements with the equipment, but they cannot sign contracts until the 11 of the current. The Cordovan had a year more of bond in exchange for 2.5 million dollars, but free agent with the only intention declared itself to obtain more years of contracts in the Spurs, in addition to a greater bond in the economic aspect. The pivot told the MORNING that waits for company/signature by “three years more” in San Antonio.
Oberto gained a place in the Spurs, and say, in San Antonio, became popular between its teammates, in addition to being friend of Manu Ginóbili. It has great relation with Brent Barry (they touch together the guitar) :lol, in addition to Tony Parker and the star of the equipment, Tim Duncan. Also, the technician Gregg Popovich emphasized the virtues, inside and outside the field of the pivot of the Rods.
Sunday, the newspaper Memphis Commercial Appeal, published the interest of Memphis by Oberto and added that that equipment already had tried its draftee in 2005 when the Cordovan signed in the Spurs.
Tribute
The Deliberative Council of Cordova will today approve the figure of the Approval to homenajear to Fabricio Oberto, by initiative of the Front for the Victory.

OF THE SOTA IT HAS HIS T-SHIRT OF THE CHAMPION OF NBA
Fabricio Oberto visited the office of Jose Manuel governor of the Sota and was distinguished as Citizen Illustrious of Cordova. The champion of NBA gave to the governor two t-shirts to him of San Antonio Spurs, one with his number 7, but that takes to the name Of the Sota in the back and the other with the name of Oberto. It is not the first t-shirt of Oberto that he has Of the Sota, since the player sent to him of gift one of the Olympiakos of Greece in 1998, when From the Sota he obtained the government of Cordova. While Head of State flattered a clock to him to the pivot of the Rods.
Haha, wow. Self-owning going on here.Quote:

That was so secret. I didn't read it on the news or NBA rumors :D
Everything is almost done under the radar nowadays. You just don't know what happens next. Me, I'm only certain that Yao Ming won't get a million votes as center in the West 2007-08 All-Star anymore now that Greg Oden is here. :lmao
:tu Good news.
I suspect a player option on Vaughn second year. Vaughn for the min is a very good signing. At the worst, Vaughn is a great third string PG and third string PGs are paid the min.
Yeah, as I said when the Spurs signed Vaughn, he was automatically the team's best third point guard in team history. The best situation would be to replace Beno with a player who may push Vaughn for the backup spot.Quote:

I can't help but like Vaughn, he does what you'd ask any professional athlete to do.
Hustle, give a crap, be a good guy, and win.
Jacque Vaughn is easily one of my favorite spurs on the team.
This being a two year deal is also good for my jersey collection, I was worried he would leave and I would have to give away another jersey :lol
Meh - I still cringe when Vaughn comes in but I can understand resigning him.
Great news
Now it's only Bonner left. Do it

Not that there is a solution to that dilemma lol.
Understand your point, but you can't fault the team for bringing back two solid bench contributors for minimal $$$.Quote:

I also look for some of the in-house talent to improve with one year in the system, as it did in this past year (see: Oberto). Mainly, I'm thinking about the possible contributions of a guy like Butler...who has considerable game-changing talent.
Good move... Vaughn doesn't scare me as much anymore. And Oberto was the man in the playoffs. :clap
let's all pray that vaughn and oberto put in serious time with Chip to develop serviceable jumpers.
i like these signings.
yeah. :)
Scola is way better than Oberto... just ask him personally... i am not big on him as he is the reason why Luis Scola may never come to us.. i would hate us playing against him and he being responsible of a lost game with a monster performance on Pop's and Buford faces...
Yay.
So essentially the Spurs (as of now) are bringing back their rotation from their title run plus have their full MLE at their disposal (+LLE I believe) and tradeable assets such as expiring contracts (Beno, Barry, White, & Finley) and rights to international talent to improve upon that. Not bad.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with Bonner. As of now it seems that the Spurs are waiting to see what kind of offers the restricted free agent garners. Next season he will likely be on the outside of the rotation looking in, but after that there would be a role for him. Spurs will match if it's something cheap (say 2-3 years, $5-8mil) but will let him go if the offer reaches eight figures. Spurs could perhaps also find themselves a nice little sign and trade opportunity with him. Ely is another potential S&T candidate.
Its going to be great. I'm glad we got Fab back and Vaughn is great. I wonder when the hell we are getting rid of Beno.
Now that they have reached an agreement with Vaughn, the time is nigh.Quote:
